The how to and why fors of CO2 supplementation for growers

I just googled why are co2 levels higher indoors than outdoors. There was quite a bit but what caught my eye right away was a PDF right around the middle of the first page.It says "co2 levels were found to be twice as high outdoors when compared to indoor levels.I know a big part must be living right by a freeway, plus your breath is 40-50,000PPM.This room had nobody in it for weeks though, and still read pretty high

It was a couple years ago when I brought it out in the backyard and set calibration but I remember it was high like in the upper 500"s.You know I have 2 tubes left and those rae testers are accurate for sure.I'm going to test to see if I'm at 700PPM.

OK the cap was reading 581 so I drew air into syringe right by the unit.Took a full two minutes pushing it through and it reads a perfect 600.I dont need a calibration its just high in hear. The 714 probably is the highest I've seen but the doors been closed for weeks literally

Wow that is fascinating, can you try one outdoors and see what your differential is?

Lazyman Definitely knows what he is talking about. He helped design my room and co2 system and my plants are out of control now, they grow too fast. Nice work bro :)

I always believed that due to photosynthesis CO2 was naturally far higher at night and that the day/night swing was more extreme in rural areas than urban due to the abundance of local vegetation?

I have always grown at night whenever possible just for this reason and am now thinking about flip flop systems with "clever" air routing into each other to take max advantage of the nightime CO2 output.

I have one tube left lazydude and I dont want to waste it out in the backyard.I'll have another grow going in a few weeks and I want to use it in the flowerroom.I know Its high though with all the traffic.Right this moment my cap in the flowerroom is reading 688 PPM

Thats cool SJ, no worries bro. Thanks for the updates and let us know if you get any more data. I have a box of tubes somewhere, I'll have to take some readings inside and out and see if there is a difference and if it varies from day to night.

Quick question on the Co2......I have a sealed room where the light is on a closed ventilation. just picked up a tank, regulator, an a 15 min. interval timer. Can I run it with out ventilation to exhaust the dead Co2 every other 15 mins. Reason I am asking is I am buying a fan in a week but want to utilize the Co2 if I can. Any help would be greatly appreciated.:thanks:

i got a titan regulator -.5 to 15 scf/hour connected to a 20 lb. tank...the room is about 400 cu. ft.

Just found the chart, to fill to 1200 ppm:minutes/flow setting

30/1
14/2
10/3
7/4
6/5
5/6 and so on.

gonna get a controller this weekend, any advice. Im looking into the Harvest Master Products (Co2 EASi Unit) which is like a brain, or C.A.P. Units (C.A.P. 4 timer Co2 Controller) which has no brain just times Co2 and timed exhaust. Or C.A.P.'s Co2 PPm Monitor.

I use the CAP PPM-3. It's "ok" but not great. It's locked up a couple times for some unknown reason. It is one of the cheapest functional controllers out there and it does work though. I like the look of the Green Air CPPM controller more but I havent used it. No matter your controller choice just make sure your environment is perfectly dialed or it's all a waste of money. 85F, 50%rh, lots of room air circulation.

Anyone have expierence with Harvest Master Products? I am leaning towards them instead of C.A.P. controllers. sucks to hear your unit broke down on ya, did ya take it back and get a new one or fix the problem yourself?

Neither, still using the same unit and just paying closer attention. CO2 controllers seem to be an imperfect science unless you want to drop the big cash on scientific-type equipment. A locked up controller once a crop isn't a big deal to me. ymmv
