But this thread is about the HAZE(OH, OTH, THH) , not haze hybrid dramas. Maybe make a dedicated thread about Nevil's work and timelines, for sure is best to keep threads clean and focused on the title.
Thanks and be cool.

Brother, this thread is about Haze. And the Hazes of Nevil have been called "Haze" for 30 years by millions of people.
Just a fact. That has no reason to change in 2022.

Sorry for negativity. :)

Thanks for the smoke report!

The Seedsman you got from me, Todds Original Haze or something else? :)

Hi Johnny,
be sure I'll write more about it in the future, at least until I run out of stash :)
The Haze described is basically F1 gen made from your seeds, I crossed your PanOHaze with OHaze father, both from seed you kindly shared.
There were 3 obvious OH plants and one was very Panama dominant, with almost everything different. The PanamaDom was ready after 9,5 weeks, the OH Dom were all 18-19 weekers. Slight difference in aromas, one had garden-vegetable smell, other two were a bit more woody and spicy, there's something in it which I can't relate to anything I smelled before. Some fresh green spice like a mix of mint, pine and salvia; mild but consistent and has some green pepper in it.
The funny thing is that now, after a good month cure they(OH phenos) all feel almost the same. Frankincense, wood and spice float in the air after smoking and vaping. It's the definition of old school :)
At the same time the Panama dom feels way different, a more lemony haze with sour strawberry kind of smell; delicious in every way. The effect is stronger, more focused and somehow dense, not as free as the haze. Will post some photos in the near future.
Ten days ago I was walking in a street of the old town and suddenly smelled pure frankincense. It was the Orthodox New year and people burn it at home, the whole street smelled of church.
I came home and packed the vape... it felt like New year for sure ;)
*I'm not religious btw

Cheers

PS
Forgot to say I have 3 THH seedlings in small cups. Exciting times ahead :)

I'd want to see both ohaze and Nev's tested side by side by the same company. Throw in Tom's haze too.

If they really have that different terpene profiles it makes me think only the one branded as original haze was pure Colombian and the other lines had more of the Thai blood. We need those tests!

Bit harsh Don.

Everybody has to start somewhere. This part seems to be lost in all the haze.

He did his job as a breeder like every other great breeder has done before and will do after, find and source the best-proven P1s you can get your hands on. Whether you developed the P1 or not makes no odds in the end. You're judged on the quality of the offspring.

To Nev's credit before the internet, he got on the road and sought out northern lights and haze from others (Exceptional Stock). Anybody that has done breeding in other domains will know unproven Dam's/Sire's is a waste of time, energy, money, resources and life.

The odds are still stacked against you, with two ELITE P1s, just a slightly higher % of finding something exceptional.

Whatever beef Nev and Sam had with each other is their business. I'm not sure what more needs to be said.

yep i know ,
i was just answering stubborn old ojd ,
got his nose firmly up nevils bum but cant even spell his name correctly ,

i have said before i admired some of nevils skills ,
but the truth is he didnt do any work on improving haze ,
he made hybrids with the stock he was sold by sam ,
which is what i was pointing out to ojd ,
ive also asked him not to continue this sam vs nevil shit ,
so any more posts he makes doing that will just be deleted since its just devisive ,
i did tell him i would so im off to do it now ...

Did Nevil have any background in breeding before he started his business? If not, where did he learn the basics? The time frame and results do not suggest it was just trial and error.

When Nevil was growing up he became close friends with a old guy near his home that was in a wheel chair that was a budgie breeder.

Nevil went onto breed Horses / Birds / Sheep / Fish / Dogs / Cannabis.

I have family members that have been into pigeons since they were kids and now as adults some as old as me are still heavily into breeding.

The knowledge these guys have in the way of breeding is amazing.

genes is genes ,,,,,nevil clearly understood a house is only as strong as its foundation ,,good already well proven stock as a foundation for breeding is essential

Early into my growing i worked out fast to grow good cannabis you needed seed from good cannabis.

Unlike today were there is a lot of information some good and some not so we had to work things out our self's.

Nevil tought me a few important things in the way of breeding.

One was what he called colors and the blending of colors to make different colors.

He also tought me this.

The Y chromosome is handed down from father to son to grand son etc. There is only one sire line.
N.

And how to dig out ancestors.

Quote from Marc Andreessen I read today via the WSJ. Bang on the money in context to the cannabis breeding game

Then Mr. Andreessen says, “I had heard of this, aha, Sturgeon’s law!” Theodore Sturgeon (1918-85) was a science-fiction author annoyed that people were saying all sci-fi was bad and wanted to stand up for the 10% that was good, saying, “90% of everything is crap.” Mr. Andreessen says “90% of music is crap.” The same is true of “paintings, writing, TV shows and movies.” I would add ideas, stocks, opinions, politicians—the list goes on.
That is “the nature of creative work. There are only a few people in each field that know what to do,” Mr. Andreessen says. “The reason I’m so fascinated by this is the ethic of our times is egalitarianism. Everybody’s the same, everyone is equal. The conceit of the times, the ethos that if only you put the work in, you’ll get great results”—Malcolm Gladwell’s 10,000-hours nonsense. “It’s not just effort. It’s not just accidental. There’s something else going on. In these domains, we have a very small number of people who know what to do. And we have a much larger number of people typically laboring under some set of delusions—generating crap. It is what it is. I wish there were more quality painters . . . or entrepreneurs.”

i do not mean disrepect as ive made it clear i was a big devotte of his work myself but i dont see nevile as some legendary breeder as to the genetics he used was others work ,which means the creators of those strains must be inta galactic legendary ??no lets calm down ...,but he had the understanding /brains to know what to do to start breeding and he had the balls an initiative to make it happen ,,in short he made the right moves at the right time imo , im not aware of any strains he created only crosses forgive me if im wrong and it was the arrival of haze an sk in europe brought over by sam that changed everything not nevile thats notion is simply untrue im sure there other old farts here that lived thru that era as i did that will attest to that its got nothing to do with fans or peoples feelings now it got to do with haze sk nl and the impact they made when they arrived in holland ,,i think nevile made some exelent selections from the exelent haze sk an nl stock he aquired to make his crosses again showing a good understanding of breeding , from that his have certainly held up better over time than most other haze crosses exept maybe sams that still get great reviews to,, thunk haze / sk etc so as you an see i do respect nevil but not quite in the same way some here do ....my 2p

Every single person has stood on the shoulders of those that have come before them .

What Nevil did no others did before or after him.

He started the cannabis seed industry and spread quality seed all over the world and for that he ended up with a price on his head.

Nevil went about collecting genetics.

He focused on breeding lines for indoor growers.

He cleaned lines up.

He did a lot.

What he also did that few have is share his methods.

If I had it I’d grow it! :) Super happy with the Seedsman Seeds selections I got from JC…I won’t be able to personally start a new crop till April , so getting high on pure Haze is only a dream in the months to come at this point , but good things come to those who wait (myself included) I only know of one person who actually grows the Nevils Haze & we all know who that is …his exact words were “it’s lovely stuff ..it gets you quite Irie” :clover:

i think this is the crux of it too harvest ,
there are very few who have made a good variety from scratch,
and seemingly they get less recognition that guys like nevil ,
its hard to compete with such a fan base as he has i guess ,
he seemed to attract sycophants imho some folks like that sort of attention ,
others find it annoying .....
i agree overall , he used good sources , got great seed from them,
and used good methodology to unite them to form good hybrids ,
but we dont see anything he started from scratch that made the cut ...

one of the reasons for the price on his head was posing in high times with piles of money,
probably wasnt his best idea id say ,
why would he even want people to know how much money he was making one wonders ,
a good business man keeps that sort of information close to his chest , lest he attracts people that suffer from envy,
that always bring bad luck ....

I dont remember to much about the story but Nevil had a guy who turned out to be a DEA narc hanging out with friends of Nevil i think it was regardless. They went after Nevil because he shipped a shit load of seed to the US.

People got busted think it was part of Operation Green Merchant.

But yes High Times didn't help.

todd mentioned it in his potcast ,
they got the court papers that stated who it was ,
he had made a line of nutes based on some recipe nevil shared with him as well as distributing seeds in the states for him,
apparently the nutes with that name are still being sold according to todd ...

yea i was a bit surprised about the photo with the money,
one thing to allow a story and pose with some hash ,
but money, na that's going to attract the wrong sort of attention for sure ....
