Thats why I said, not frankincense, no church type plants so far which I think they were looking for in the incense type plants, but the camphor sandlewood menthol nag champa cedar type incense terps are in abundance...Though this is not the hybrid thread LOL so I'll stop there...

The frankincense chruchy smell comes from Haze flowers that you smoke not from the plants.

The smell is from burning flower not live flower.

Chimera actually talks about this on his interview on The Pot Cast. How I understood it was that in his opinion using xy male plants does not provide any benefit when breeding for drug cannabis. But I don't want to put words in his mouth, please have a listen to hear it straight from him. It's on part two of his interview (episode 55.33) at around 32 minutes).

Of course, whether or not using an xy male provides any benefit over making feminized seeds is a different question than whether or not which one you choose as the pollen donor when breeding a hybrid with two cultivars makes any difference. Anecdotal evidence seems to suggest that it does. And while it might not seem to make sense based on Mendelian inheritance logic alone, various non-Mendelian inheritance patterns have been identified (in general that is, not sure how much this has been studied in cannabis).

It was not that long back when no seed company offered fem seed. Fem seed is is relevantly a new thing but Paradise seed was experimenting with fem seed not sure on the year need to look for that .

Then Exile i think his handle was showed up (I always thought it was Sam ) introduced a female reversal spray back in 2004 ish at CW before that there was no fem seed.

So going by what Chimeras is saying all the cannabis before that was inferior ?.

Males help purge or clear bad mutations they play an important roll its not just about the genetic history of a males paternal ancestral line.

I grew fem seed a friend gifted me to see for my self they turned out to be the worse plants i ever grew.

I grew s1's from DNA seeds before of the hash plant haze cut, wish they'd release that again..but every plant was sooooooooo frankincensy, I had a greenhouse full of trainwreck, amnesia, proper cheese and chocolope and when you brushed against one of the HPH's the whole place stank like a church overpowering some of the most aromatic strains I've grown...but smoked no frankincense taste funny enough, but the whole place yes would smell like a church when that spliff was lit. So I'd say smell is strongly in live flower, but not in taste of smoke, but strongly in presence in room once lit.

I think fem, or male, or or..it all depends on the parents...With fem you used to get less phenotypical expression, than the regs, but these days its all pollen chucking mainly of the uber elite cuts so stuff is sooooo unstable, almost every plant is different fem or not...I've found amazing individuals in fems and in regs, all depends on the parents...I've found hay in regs and hay in fems, herms in regs and herms in fems..all depends on those parents..

parents are the crucial part ,, choose well , get good progeny ,
always good to hear from someone without any agenda ,
who just tells it how they have seen it ,
thanks maryjane , your experience is valued as it is wide and without prejudice ....

Same old story "more research required", this haze discussion has gone full circle and lapped round several times. Literally for years now, we have only learnt how little we know.

Something I have been pondering regarding the THH.

It's noted that Original Haze puts out a significantly larger amount of females compared to males in it's populations. I have also read similar accounts from others about the Old Timers Haze from ACE.

Considering that, I was thinking about what I read in someone's THH journey here on Icmag. They got closer to a pretty typical 50/50 male to female split.

Would the prevalence of more males in the line indicate a higher likelihood of THH being a hybrid rather than pure original haze?

When I ran Kali Mist back in the day, it also had a high number of females to makes but it was a very small sample size considering. I have always read that Kali Mist is part original haze.

Just something I have been thinking about the past few days. Not saying it's inferior or anything, proof is in th pudding and the THH look great. Just some daytime thoughts I've been thinking the past few days.

Hammer thanks for elaborating earlier about your feed schedule as well as some of the other comments. These threads pick up speed so fast sometimes and I get lost in keeping up with them in the ways I would like. PBP is good stuff and your plants look great as usual. Do you use other Botanicare stuff like Liquid Karma, Sweet, or Cal-Mag too? Much love

I’m not sure what Kali Mist was before but this is what I found in a recent pack I picked up, squat bushy and leafy - did not stretch much at all in flower. High was nice but nothing to write home about. So much for queen of the sativas.

The handle was Elite x Elite and the owner of that handle was PNW breeder Hybe/Hibe/Hyb.

The date is when it will be ready to use. It has to dry a few days or it will go bad when sealed up. I still need to re run it through the screen again to get any contamination left.. Its easier when its fully dry.

Hi old the new Kali mist looks very different to that of the old Kali Mist.

I think from reading Simon lost one of the parents. Then Kali Mist was only offered in fem seed only.

I was gifted some Kali mist seed from 1998 and i managed to get 2 plants up a male and a fem.

The Female looked like this.

I will be honest i didn't expect it to be as good as it turned out.

The smoke really shocked me it was like smoking some of the best Thai.

I was lucky and found a male that reminded me of what you expect from a Haze and i made F2s.

Do some research on a line called Western winds by Sagarmatha its said to be Kali mist from what i remember reading decades ago they and Simon worked together then went did their own thing.
