because you would see that the average person in jail is not an opressed pot head... just the opposite... a vast majority are among the biggest fuck ups and losers you can imagine...

i didn't mean anything negative towards you when i made the laughing comment... it's just thinking back on some of the most useless human scum i've ever had the misfortune of meeting, well, it provided for a stark contrast to what your statement implied...

rest assured that a good solid majority of people locked up in the u.s. belong there... most of them don't even smoke pot because it dulls either the meth or smack high...

but this is all irrelevant to the issue at hand... i can say this though, it's sickening to see the people who are locked up for pot being held for $100,000+ bail (a good friend of mine, charged with manufacturing (growing) and felony possesion (roughly 200 grams) $125,000 bail ) while people that beat up their wives are routinely released the day after they're arrested...

busting pot smokers (and any drug users for that matter) is a serious misalocation of govt. resources. it could be much better spent...

Short of a violent take over of pissed off pot heads I don't see marijuana becoming legal anytime soon. Regardless of what you think about Marc Emery he hasn't helped anything. He's pissed of anti-marijuana supporters as well as us Pot Heads. And I can only hope some jail time will smarten him up.

As far as I can tell marijuana is illegal for a couple reasons. First off we all know the whole Lumber industry ordeal, which no longer really influences the decision to keep it illegal, but was a major factor in it originally being criminalized. Next off we have the few politicians who are actually ignorant enough to think it's harmful, can't hold it against them they have our best interests at heart...just not looking at the facts.

Then finally there's the money that's made from keeping Marijuana Illegal. Drug Forfeiture laws bring in millions of dollars to the goverment each year, it's free money and all they have to "prove" is some sort of deal/grow went down on the property...very easy to manipulate the court into giving you a brand new house. We can't forget about prisoners, more free money for the government. Have you seen the figures prisons show representing the "cost" of housing a prisoner? Some prisons estimate that figure as high as $30,000 a year PER inmate. If you've ever spent time in even a county jail you know that figure is bullshit, it's more free money for the government. They tell you each one costs YOU (the tax payer) $30,000 but in reality they pocket 50% of that. Next up you have the pharma companies, it's public knowledge a lot of politicians are arm deep in pill companies. I doubt MMJ would effect this business too much, however it's a risk they don't want to take.

That's my take on the whole ordeal.

Oh and fuck Marc Emery, I'd be pissed as all hell if he came to my work and started puffin' away, and I even toke. Flauting around like a careless dickwad is no way to help the image of marijuana users.

Anyone can put 2 and 2 together on that one. When those possession laws dropped off the books and Canada was leaning towards going soft on weed and not putting those laws back Emery took action.

Why? Because if weed laws went soft in Canada then everyone would be starting seed shops up and when hes the most expensive and prolific seed seller in north america thats going to cost him too much lost revenues.

How to get Canada to put the laws back on the books and perhaps make them harsher? [ which is what they did, possession and growing laws are as bad as they were in the early 90's ] Well looks like a massive cross country smokeout tour where you and your minions blow pot in lawmakers faces at their place of work seemed to have done the trick.

Some see an activist. Some see a martyr. Some see a shrewed egomanical selfish businessman. The only truth that remains is if he doesnt run [ martyr in absentia?] hes going away for a long time.

we have to start from the bottom up. tolerant people lead to tolerant towns and cities to tolerant counties to tolerant states. and when we have enough states the feds will have to give in.The states will have to fight hard to keep the feds from running amok and tell them to go away we can handle our own laws thank you. This is true. The majority of prisoners are the scum of the earth.

In addition. have never known anyone that went to prison that did not deserve to be there as a result of thier actions.
