Setting up games

1- Find an opponent-
2- setup your baords in the following fashin-
- The bottom right square of your board should be white
- Queen Goes on her own color
- White takes rows 1 and 2, black takes rows 7 and 8
-so the white king should start on e1 and the black on e8
3- Confirm the start locations with your oppenent and post regular pix of the board to keep everything the same on both boards-
4- These are friendly games on a friendly thread, we like to keep it this way
5- enjoy

The Intro

In april 05 i started a chess thread over on OG and from april 05 to jan 06 we might have played 10-15 games move by move (including the 2 tournaments). It was a nice thread to relax and talk about whatever wile we played the games.

Well anyway, i decided to reopen the thread here on ICMag. I think this is a good place for it now.

Anyone who would like to play some chess, or even has an intrest in chess and would like to show your boards, feel free to join us here :)

If i can get enough intrest, maybe we could have another tourny

Here are some memory pix from the OG thread

I love playing chess. Top stoner game - well kind of.

I play over on ICC - got a blitz rating of around 1200....so not great or anything - would be higher but for making silly moves while stoned.

I downloaded Chess to my cell phone.
I am completely addicted to it. I play it all the time, especially while waiting for a bus, or on a bus, or while waiting in lines at the Supermarket or Post office or what ever.

As far as I am concerned it is the best feature on my Celphone.

It is not hard to learn.
Each piece on the board moves in a certain way. And you need to remember how they move and how the strategy works per piece and all together.
The strongest piece is the King and the object of the game is to corner the king so that where ever he moves then he will be in attack and therefore it will be Check mate.

So as not to be confused or intimidated by all the rules and moves of each piece you need to be shown with the pieces and board exactly how they each move.
after a few games you will get the hang of it and see how the game works.

This game is ONLY mind. There is no luck what so ever involved in it.
Its against you and your opponent, and both of you need to think.

ready when you are bro, ive tossed a coin & beleive it or not, i won, (ahem, cough, cough, whistle, lol :bigeye: )
we have removed the speical presserving coating from the chess board, or dust as its more commonly known, as thread starter and reigning OG chess champ would you like first move to get things rolling.....

hey guys, pull up a chair even if you dont play, altho chess seems like a long winded drawn out pass time, we're only here to enjoy ourselfs & hava laff in good company,
this could take days, weeks or even months but either way, it all good fun
:woohoo:

as you see it,

white queen on her own color 1D, white square bottom ritehand corner is 1H

as i see it,

black queen on her own color 8D, white square bottom ritehand corner is A8

Some games are partly luck. Chess is all skill.. not luck at all.

Perhaps it will be clearer watching folks play so I can look at the moves and think, reckon I am a tad slow to figure stuff out. I will burn and learn.

Mexican Mafia - the small black and white pieces on the 2nd and 7th rank respectively - are known as pawns and can only move one square forward at a time - except when they are on the 2nd or 7th rank - and it's their first move - they can move two squares if they so choose.

This is a very common chess opening. It gives you an idea of how the knight (the horse) moves as well. It is the only piece that can jump over other pieces - i.e it doesn't matter if there is a piece in the way of its path. It moves 2 squares in a horizontal or vertical direction and then one square in the opposite i.e if you look at the board - the black knight has moved from b8-c6 and the white knight from g1-f3. The white knight is attacking the black pawn in the center.

So in the above - white moved first - pawn to e4. black followed with pawn to e5. White moved his knight to f3 attacking the black pawn on e5 and black countered with knight to c4 - protecting his pawn on e5.

It just gives you a flavour. I'm happy to explain the movement of a few more pieces if anyone's interested..? Don't all rush at once...:D

Smoking weed often leads to mistakes but it's great beating straight heads when you are completely caned...one of the buzzes of chess for me. :D

I suppose I should mention - just to complete the introductory basic chess lesson of the pawn and the knight :D - that the pawn takes a piece diagonally and not immediately in front of it.

White moved pawn to e4. Black moved pawn to d5. The white pawn can now take the black pawn on e5 in it's next move because it is in front but diagonally one square of it. (if that makes sense). However if white takes the black pawn on d5 - blacks queen on d8 can take the white pawn...but that's another story.

Anyway - I'm happy to outline the (odd) current game situation using the screenshots of the board as above - if that would be helpful...obviously I'm in a helpful mood today. ;)
Bagsy playing GMT next.

Let's get the show on the road. :dueling:
