Your notion of Plato/Socrates providing the model for MARXISM is really one of the stupidest things I’ve ever run across. Neither did it ‘inspire’ the government of Rome - which started as a monarchy, and became a republic, and then an empire. The Roman republic predated Plato.

Had at the very end, you show that you don’t know what you’re talking about: the Romans did not have a democracy, so it did not ‘crumble’.

Democracy alone tends to lead to chaos. The old “democracy should never be a case of 2 wolves and a sheep voting on what’s for dinner” debate.

This is why many governments went with hybrid forms of democratic societies.

This is also why we have three separate houses of power in the US. The founding fathers loved democratic principles but wanted to avoid the pitfalls of earlier democratic nations. Checks and balances instead of a constant cycle of the richest and most powerful buying/strong arming votes.

And over the falls you go again...provide PROOF that “democracy *alone* tends to lead to chaos”. Monarchy and struggles for power have been FOR MORE chaotic for much more of history than there have even BEEN governments based on popular elections.

What democracy (self-government by democratically-elected representatives, which is WHY we call ourselves a ‘democracy’) *IS* prone to is mass manipulation such as we’ve been seeing here in the US for the last 40+ years. It’s why we have the 45 situation we have now.

Most ‘democracies’ in the world have come into being since 1776; almost all were set up in response to and admiration for the UNITED STATES AND ITS CONSTITUTION. Sadly, since the end of the Cold War, we have ‘helped’ these nations by helping them establish client-state governments that serve Western business. Many of those nations have had unrest, and for good reasons.

Those ‘hybrid democracies’ do not benefit from the situation, and there seems to be no chance of them standing up against any of the usual suspects.

And, you seem blind to the fact that our ‘checks and balances’ have been disabled by a wholly corrupt party bent on eliminating the government we have now...and they have NEVER interfered with the efficiency of wealth and power at bending the government - and the nation- to suit them.

That's how it looks from over here - I reckon he will manage to hold onto whatever power his office affords - why? - simply because there doesn't look to be any viable candidate for that office that can replace him currently running - in the forthcoming elections - unless the USA suddenly flip/flops and some marvellous modern statesman/woman arises from this political mess - and gets the vote - stranger things have happened - like Trump getting the vote in the first place -
