Mitch McConnell threatened on Thursday to cancel Donald Trump's impeachment trial in the Senate if 'scared' Nancy Pelosi refuses to send him the formal articles of impeachment that Democrats passed Wednesday night.
The Speaker of the House and the Senate Majority leader went to war over next steps in the impeachment process, with Pelosi slamming McConnell as a 'rogue leader'—and he blasted her indictment of the president as 'slapdash' and 'unfair.'
The dispute exploded into the open the morning after Democrats voted to impeach Trump, with the president bragging he coulld prevaIl by 'default.'
'If the Do Nothing Democrats decide, in their great wisdom, not to show up, they would lose by Default!,' Trump argued on Twitter of his upcoming Senate trial, which is now in doubt.
Pelosi has to transmit the articles of impeachment and appoint 'managers' to prosecute the president. She offered no timeline, saying she wanted to see the Senate's plan for a 'fair trial,' effectively holding the articles over McConnell's and Trump's heads.
McConnell, who previously said he wanted to hold a trial in January, responded: 'It's beyond me how the Speaker and Democratic Leader in the Senate think withholding the articles of impeachment and not sending them over gives them leverage.'
'Frankly, I'm not anxious to have the trial. If she thinks her case is so weak she doesn't want to send it over, throw me into that briar patch.'

Open warfare: Nancy Pelosi slammed Mitch McConnell as a 'rogue leader' and he called her articles of impeachment 'slapdash' and 'unfair' as the two clashed over the Senate trial of Donald Trump

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell claimed in a floor speech that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is afraid to send him the articles of impeachment that House Democrats passed Wednesday night

He and the president both blasted Pelosi for refusing to move to the next step, with Trump unleashing a storm of tweets and retweets and venting: 'PRESIDENTIAL HARASSMENT.'
McConnell also criticized Democrats on the Senate floor, accusing them of creating what he called an 'unfair, unfinished product'—Tcharges rump that stemmed from 'partisan rage.'
Calling Pelosi's work 'constitutionally incoherent,' he said impeaching a president on the basis of political disagreements would 'invite an endless parade of impeachable trials' in the future, making House leaders 'free to toss up a jump-ball every time they feel angry.'
'She's failed the country,' McConnell said.
'It was like the speaker called up Chairman [Jerrold] Nadler and ordered up "One impeachment, rushed delivery, please".'

Chuck Schumer, the Democratic Senate minority leader accused McConnell of offering no defense of Trump's actions

President Donald Trump held a rally as House Democrats were passing the articles, sticking to his guns and mocking them

Pelosi herself held a press conference after McConnell spoke and offered no hint on when she would move.
'Just to get this off the table right away, we impeached the president immediately and everybody was on to the next thing,' she said.
'The next thing will be when we see the process that is set forth in the Senate. Then we'll know the number of managers that we may have to go forward and who we would choose.'
And she grew testy as reporters pressed her for more details on when the two articles of impeachment will end up on McConnell's desk.
'I'm not going to answer anymore questions on this. Clearly you understand when we see what their process is we will know who and how many we want to send over, not until then. I'm not going to go there anymore,' Pelosi said.
Our founders, when they wrote the constitution, they suspected that there could be a rogue president. I don't think they suspected that we could have a rogue president and a rogue leader in the Senate at the same time.
Nancy Pelosi

But she did react angrily to McConnell's speech, saying: 'I saw some - I didn't see it - but heard some of what Mitch McMconnell said today and it reminded me that our founders, when they wrote the constitution, they suspected that there could be a rogue president.
' I don't think they suspected that we could have a rogue president and a rogue leader in the Senate at the same time.'
In the Senate, McConnell declared that 'their slapdash process has concluded in the first purely partisan presidential impeachment since the wake of the Civil War.'
Citing previous House votes that fell short of authorizing impeachment inquiries, he said Democrats had 'tried to impeach President Trump for being impolite to the press, for being mean to professional athletes, for changing President Obama's policy on transgender people in the military.'
'All of these things were high crimes and misdemeanors according to the Democrats,' he said.
McConnell cited Democrats' earlier pledges to impeach Trump as proof that Wednesday's vote 'was not some neutral judgment that Democrats came to with great reluctance. It was the predetermined end of a partisan crusade that began before President Trump was even nominated, let alone sworn in.'
House Democrats have begun pressing Pelosi to force the Senate to tailor the upcoming constitutional trial to their wishes—by refusing to send the articles of impeachment to McConnell until he agrees to their terms.
Frankly, I'm not anxious to have the trial. If she thinks her case is so weak she doesn't want to send it over, throw me into that briar patch
Mitch McConnell

McConnell called her bluff, saying she's afraid to hand him the baton because she knows the articles are weak.
'Pelosi suggested that House Democrats may be too afraid to even transmit their shoddy work product to the Senate,' he will say, mocking her suggestion in a post-vote press conference that she'll hold the two articles over his head until he agrees to a 'fair' trial.
In response Chuck Schumer, the Democratic Senate minority leader accused McConnell of offering no defense of Trump's actions.
He renewed his call for witnesses at the trial saying: 'Is the president's case so weak that none of the President's men can defend him under oath?'
And echoing McConnell's criticism of 'the most rushed, least thorough, and most unfair impeachment inquiry in modern history,' Schumer said the Republicans were 'plotting the most rushed, least thorough, and most unfair impeachment trial.
A defiant Trump partially quoted the Senate's rules for impeaching President Andrew Johnson in 1868, saying in a tweet that '[t]he Senate shall set the time and place of the trial.'
'The Do Nothing Party want to Do Nothing with the Articles & not deliver them to the Senate, but it's Senate's call!' he warned, saying they would 'lose by default' if they decided to ignore whatever schedule McConnell sets.
'PRESIDENTIAL HARASSMENT!' Trump tweeted in a standalone message

Schumer this week demanded McConnell agree to swear in a list of trial witnesses that include senior Trump administration officials and Trump's personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani, people who House Democrats decided not to subpoena during their impeachment inquiry.
McConnell said Schumer has been 'searching for ways the Senate could step out of our proper role and try to fix House Democrats' failures for them.'
George Washington is said to have told Thomas Jefferson that the U.S. Senate was designed to be a calming counterpoint to the more raucous House of Representatives, in the way a teacup's saucer 'cools' a hot beverage.
McConnell, famous for embracing a plodding style when key legislation is on his desk, leaned on the oft-quoted 'cooling saucer of democracy'—saying that the U.S. Constitution's framers 'built the Senate to provide stability' and '[t]o keep partisan passions from boiling over. Moments like this are why the United States Senate exists.'
Pelosi told reporters after adjourning the House of Representatives on Wednesday night that she's in no hurry to send the two articles of impeachment to McConnell for a trial. Her caucus passed them without any Republican votes, accusing Trump of abusing his power and showing open contempt for Democrats' investigation by blocking witnesses and document demands.

The Articles of Impeachment were approved Wednesday night with no Republican votes; Rep. Tulsi Gabbard voted 'present' instead of 'yes,' and two other Democrats bucked Pelosi to openly side with the GOP

The Republican-led Senate owns the next chapter of the saga, a trial where Chief Justice John Roberts will preside. An unlikely two-thirds supermajority is required to convict the president and remove him from office.
McConnell, a Kentucky Republican, expects his Republican majority to exonerate Trump. But that can't happen until impeachment 'managers,' duos chosen by both parties, present the Senate with the twin impeachment articles.
Pelosi said Wednesday night that she won't be ready to let go of the process until McConnell demonstrates the trial will be 'fair'—and she's nowhere near convinced yet.
The Washington Post quoted Oregon Democratic Rep. Earl Blumenauer overnight saying he has talked to three dozen Democratic lawmakers who favor 'rounding out the record and spending the time to do this right.'
'At a minimum, there ought to be an agreement about access to witnesses, rules of the game, timing,' Blumenauer said of the upcoming Senate trial.
And an unnamed Democrat told the newspaper that Democrats are discussing 'serious concern about whether there will be a fair trial on the Senate side.'
Impeachment managers are appointed via House resolutions; Thursday is the last day the House will be in session until January 7.

Trump vented about his political plight at a political rally in Michigan while House Democrats were voting to impeach him in Washington

'We have legislation approved by the Rules Committee that will enable us to decide how we send over the articles of impeachment,' Pelosi said. 'We cannot name managers until we see what the process is on the Senate side.'
'So far we haven't seen anything that looks fair to us,' she warned. 'So hopefully it will be fairer. And when see what that is, we'll send our managers.'
'Let me tell you what I don't consider a fair trial,' Pelosi said as she read from a piece of paper an aide handed her.
'This is what I don't consider a fair trial, that Leader McConnell has stated that he's not an impartial juror, that he's going to take his 'cues' from the White House, and he is working in total coordination with the White House counsel's office.'

John Brennan rewrites foundation of American justice

'Innocent … until alleged to be involved in some kind of criminal activity'

Barack Obama CIA director John Brennan, regarded as the architect of the now debunked Trump-Russia collusion claim, apparently doesn't understand the foundational premise of the American justice system, innocent until proven guilty.
In an interview with MSNBC's "Morning Joe," he said "people are innocent, you know, until alleged to be involved in some kind of criminal activity."

TRENDING: Impeachment backfires as Trump now leads all Dem challengers in general-election poll
Zerohedge featured journalist Glenn Greenwald's Twitter post on Brennan's statement.
Greenwald wrote, "With sincere apologies in advance to all U.S. liberals who are offended by criticisms of former CIA chiefs, @JohnBrennan's understanding of the presumption of innocence is completely warped, but in the most unsurprising way imaginable:"
Advertisement - story continues below

Zerohedge explained: "The presumption of innocence, as a foundation of the U.S. judicial system, has seemingly been under attack since November 8th 2016. An allegation is made, media runs with the narrative, the seed of possibility of guilt is implanted in the minds of zombie Americans, and the accused is maligned forever – no court required. Simple. And now, none other than former CIA Director John Brennan clarifies exactly how the deep state sees 'due process'…"
Zerohedge said that some have suggested, in Brennan's defense, "that he was being sarcastic, or even joking, but nothing in his delivery suggests that and furthermore, it's not the smartest thing to say given the goings on at the margin of the legal[] system and the death-by-allegation media narratives that are swarming around the enemies of his deep-state attack."
"Of course, we should by now know full well how to treat anything that comes out of Brennan's mouth."
Greenwald pointed out that Brennan was totally wrong regarding the Robert Mueller special counsel investigation of President Trump.

Brennan, now a CNN commentator, has accused Trump of treason.
Following Mueller's conclusion that there was no collusion with Russia by the Trump campaign, Brennan told MSNBC's "Morning Joe": "I don't know if I received bad information, but I think I suspected there was more than there actually was."
Significantly, CNN provided no disclaimer that viewers listening to Brennan's commentary on the Mueller probe should take into account his own complicity in initiating the allegations of Trump campaign collusion with Russia.

At the White House, President Trump insinuated that the genesis of the Russia-collusion investigation came from the Obama White House.
A reporter asked: "Do you think it reached the West Wing of the Obama White House?"
"I don't want to say that, but I think you know the answer."
Later, Trump said: "I think it went very high up. I think what happened is a disgrace. I don't believe our country should allow this ever to happen again."

The Washington Post reported that in August 2016, Brennan requested a meeting with President Obama after compiling his own dossier of claims of Russian interference in the election.
That same month, Brennan briefed then-Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid about elements in another dossier, the unverified anti-Trump document crafted by former British spy Christopher Steele that was funded by the Hillary Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee. Reid then transmitted some of the information in a letter to the FBI.
The salacious and unsubstantiated claims against Trump from Russian sources later were used as evidence to obtain a warrant to spy on Trump campaign volunteer Carter Page.
There now is an investigation into the role the dossier had in obtaining the warrant and its overall part in initiating the special counsel probe.

In an interview last August, Trump personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani accused Brennan of being the "quarterback" who took the Steele dossier to Reid and touched off the investigation.
Russia expert Paul Kengor highlighted Brennan's radical background, noting the Obama CIA director voted for Communist Party candidate Gus Hall for president of the United States.
Brennan also has a record of lying. He was probed for committing perjury by testifying falsely, under oath, before the House Intelligence Committee that the infamous anti-Trump “dossier” funded by the Democratic Party played no role in the intelligence community’s publicly released conclusion that Russia interfered in the 2016 election.
Brennan further declared he did not know who commissioned the opposition-research document, even though senior national security and counter-intelligence officials at the Justice Department and FBI knew the previous year it was funded by the Hillary Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee.
Advertisement - story continues below

After Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., accused the CIA of spying on members of the Senate by hacking into computers used by her intelligence committee’s staffers, Brennan said, "Let me assure you the CIA was in no way spying on [the committee] or the Senate."
However, a CIA inspector general's report found the CIA was indeed spying on the Senate, and Brennan was forced to privately apologize to intelligence committee members.
Brennan also claimed in a 2011 speech that there had not been "a single collateral death" from U.S. drone strikes because of their "exceptional proficiency [and] precision.'" However, the Bureau of Investigative Journalism found that one U.S. drone strike alone had killed 42 Pakistanis, "most of them civilians."

Did the fraud allegation originate in the same place as the rifle story in Birmingham?

No in the senate hearing with Horowitz. I have link to one earlier. They with held info that would have stopped the wire tapping of Carter Page. That made his wire tapping illegal. It was also illegal to with hold this info. Not only that but the info was altered which again is a crime. There were several crimes committed by the FBI.

All fraud committed to bring down the president. I would not be surprised if Trump uses this in the next year to get elected again and show the corruption that happened during the last election then used to start the Mueller investigation.

Go back a few pages and you will see one of the frauds linked to.

If the Dems screwed themselves we sill see that in 2020. No matter what you believe the Dems put there ass on the line. They all know they might lose there jobs. At least they stood up for what they believe in and that takes balls. When its time to vote we will see what people think.

i totally agree with you on that...its just curious to see an entire political faction throw themselves all in with such thin odds....kinda like a jim jones scenario

history does not bode well for fo a political party taking such risque gambles
im good with it...as you say we shall see....public sentiment will give early signs as to how it is going to shape the 2020

They'll do anything to keep Bernie from winning. Including sabotaging themselves. It's really not surprising to me at all.

Look back at the history of the Weimar Republic. Conservative Germans appointed Hitler, and the rich liberals didn't bat an eye. Capital would rather break fascist than do any real leftist reform. Cause with leftist reform comes a redustribution of their obscene wealth and power.

You have NO IDEA what’s coming: Virginia Dems to unleash martial law attack on 2A counties using roadblocks to confiscate firearms and spark a shooting war

(Natural News) After passing extremely restrictive anti-gun legislation in early 2020, Virginia has a plan to deploy roadblocks at both the county and state levels to confiscate firearms from law-abiding citizens (at gunpoint, of course) as part of a deliberate effort to spark a shooting war with citizens, sources are now telling Natural News.
Some might choose to dismiss such claims as speculation, but these sources now say that Virginia has been chosen as the deliberate flashpoint to ignite the civil war that’s being engineered by globalists. Their end game is to unleash a sufficient amount of violence to call for UN occupation of America and the overthrow of President Trump and the republic. Such action will, of course, also result in the attempted nationwide confiscation of all firearms from private citizens, since all gun owners will be labeled “domestic terrorists” if they resist. Such language is already being used by Democrat legislators in the state of Virginia.
The Democrat-run impeachment of President Trump is a necessary component for this plan, since the scheme requires Trump supporters to be painted as “enraged domestic terrorists” who are seeking revenge for the impeachment. This is how the media will spin the stories when armed Virginians stand their ground and refuse to have their legal firearms confiscated by police state goons running Fourth Amendment violating roadblocks on Virginia roads.
The gun confiscation roadblocks are almost sure to start a shooting war

Roadblocks will be set up in two types of locations, sources tell Natural News: 1) On roads entering the state of Virginia from neighboring states that have very high gun ownership, such as Kentucky, Tennessee and North Carolina, and 2) Main roads (highways and interstates) that enter the pro-2A counties which have declared themselves to be Second Amendment sanctuaries. With over 90 counties now recognizing some sort of pro-2A sanctuary status, virtually the entire State of Virginia will be considered “enemy territory” by the tyrants in Richmond who are trying to pull off this insidious scheme.
As the map shows below, every green county has passed a pro-2A resolution of one kind or another. As you can see, nearly the entire state is pro-2A, completely surrounding the Democrat tyrants who run the capitol of Richmond.
Virginia-2A-Sanctuary-Counties-12-18-2019-600.jpg

The purpose of the roadblocks, to repeat, has nothing to do with public safety or enforcing any law. It’s all being set up to spark a violent uprising against the Virginia Democrats and whatever law enforcement goons are willing to go along with their unconstitutional demands to violate the fundamental civil rights of Virginian citizens. Over 90 Virginian counties, cities and municipalities have so far declared themselves to be pro-2A regions, meaning they will not comply with the gun confiscation tyranny of Gov. Northam and his Democrat lackeys.
Democrats in Virginia have threatened to activate the National Guard to attack pro-2A “terrorists,” and a recent statement from the Guard unit in Virginia confirms that the Guard has no intention to resist Gov. Northam’s outrageous orders, even if they are illegal or unconstitutional. One county in Virginia — Tazewell — has already activated its own militia in response. As reported by FirearmsNews.com:
In addition to passing their Second Amendment Sanctuary Resolution, the county also passed a Militia Resolution. This resolution formalizes the creation, and maintenance of a defacto civilian militia in the county of Tazewell. And to get a better understanding why the council members passed this resolution, Firearms News reached out to one of its members, Thomas Lester. Mr. Lester is a member of the council, as well as a professor of American History and Political Science.
Firearms News: Councilman Lester, what are the reasons behind passing this new resolution, and what does it mean for the people of Tazewell County?
Tom Lester: … the purpose of the militia is not just to protect the county from domestic danger, but also protect the county from any sort of tyrannical actions from the Federal government. Our constitution is designed to allow them to use an armed militia as needed. If the (Federal) government takes those arms away, it prevents the county from fulfilling their constitutional duties.
The situation is escalating rapidly in Virginia, which is precisely what Democrats and globalists are seeking. As All News Pipeline reports:
With many Virginia citizens angry with the threat of tyranny exploding there, ANP was recently forwarded an email written by a very concerned Virginia citizen who warned that Democratic leadership is pushing Virginia there towards another ‘shot heard around the world’ with Virginia absolutely the satanic globalists new testing ground for disarming all of America in a similar fashion should they be successful there.
And while we’ll continue to pray for peace in America, it’s long been argued that it’s better to go down fighting than to be a slave to tyranny for the rest of one’s life. And with gun registration seemingly always preceding disarmament and disarmament historically leading to genocide, everybody’s eyes should be on what’s happening now in Virginia.
With the mainstream media clearly the enemy of the American people and now President Trump confirming they are ‘partners in crime’ with the ‘deep state’ that has been attempting an illegal coup upon President Trump ever since he got into office, how can outlets such as CNN, MSNBC, the NY Times, Washington Post and all of the others continuously pushing the globalists satanic propaganda be held accountable and responsible for the outright madness they are unleashing upon America?
The enemies of America want to turn the entire country into a UN-occupied war zone and declare President Trump to be an “illegitimate dictator”

Where is all this really headed? The bottom line goal of the enemies of America is to transform the country into a UN-occupied war zone, where UN troops go door to door, confiscating weapons from the American people. President Trump will be declared an “illegitimate dictator” and accused of war crimes, since Democrats and the media have already proven they can dream up any crime imaginable and accuse the President of that crime, without any basis in fact.
And as we know with the Dems, if they can’t rule America, they will seek to destroy it. Causing total chaos is their next best option to resisting Trump’s efforts to drain the swamp, since the Dems know they can’t defeat Trump in an honest election.
Expect Virginia to be the ignition point for all this. Even the undercover cops who work there are now warning about what’s coming. Via WesternJournal.com:
Virginia’s Democratic politicians appear to be ready to drive the state into a period of massive civil unrest with no regard for citizens’ wishes, but conservatives in the commonwealth will not be stripped of their rights without a fight.
In the face of expected wide-reaching bans on so-called assault weapons, high-capacity magazines, and other arms protected under the 2nd Amendment, Virginians are standing up to Democratic tyranny.
A major in the Marine Corps reserves took an opportunity during a Dec. 3 meeting to warn the Board of Supervisors of Fairfax County about trouble on the horizon.
Ben Joseph Woods spoke about his time in the military, his federal law enforcement career and his fears about where politicians are taking Virginia.
“I work plainclothes law enforcement,” Woods said. “I walk around without a uniform, people don’t see my badge, people don’t see my gun, and I can tell you: People are angry.”
Woods said that the situation in Virginia is becoming so dangerous that he is close to moving his own wife and unborn child out of the state.
The reason is because my fellow law enforcement officers I’ve heard on more than one occasion tell me they would not enforce these bills regardless of whether they believe in them ideologically,” Woods said, “because they believe that there are so many people angry — in gun shops, gun shows, at bars we’ve heard it now — people talking about tarring and feathering politicians in a less-than-joking manner.”
As Woods mentioned politicians themselves could very well be in danger because of their decisions, several rebel yells broke out as the crowd cheered him on.
Stay informed. Things are about to happen over the next 10 months that you would have never imagined just five years ago.
And to all those who mocked our warnings about the coming civil war, you are about to find yourself in one. Sure hope you know how to run an AR platform and build a water filter. Things won’t go well for the unprepared, especially in the cities.
And, by the way, Richmond is surrounded by patriots. At what point will the citizens of Virginia decide to arrest and incarcerate all the lawless, treasonous tyrants in Richmond who tried to pull this stunt? I have a feeling there’s about to be a real shortage of rope across Virginia…

McConnell Says Holding Articles of Impeachment Gives Pelosi and Democrats No Leverage

By Jack Phillips
2 Comments December 19, 2019 Updated: December 19, 2019 Share

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said if House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) decides to hold articles of impeachment in the House rather than sending them to the upper body of Congress, it won’t put any pressure on him to agree to coming up with rules for the Senate trial.
“It’s beyond me how the Speaker and Democratic leader in the Senate think withholding the articles of impeachment and not sending them over gives them leverage,” McConnell told reporters on Thursday. “Frankly, I’m not anxious to have the trial. If she thinks her case is so weak she doesn’t want to send it over, throw me into that briar patch,” he said.
On the House floor, McConnell described the House Democratic investigation of President Donald Trump as “by far the thinnest basis for any House-passed presidential impeachment in American history,” and added that they’re “too afraid” to submit two articles of impeachment to the Senate.
Pelosi didn’t elaborate on whether she plans on delaying or sending the articles to the Senate.
“We don’t know the arena we’re in,” she told reporters on Thursday morning, adding, “I don’t care what the Republicans” in the Senate would do, accusing McConnell of going “rogue” along with a “rogue president.”
When she was pressed about an update, she said she hasn’t yet chosen impeachment managers and will not send the two articles to the Senate until the upper congressional body comes to an agreement on trial rules.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) speaks to media at the Capitol in Washington on Dec. 19, 2019. (Charlotte Cuthbertson/The Epoch Times)“When we see what they have, we’ll know who and how many to send over,” Pelosi told reporters. “The next thing for us … is when we see the process set forth in the Senate. We will have the monitors set forth and who we will choose.”
Earlier in the day, another top Democrat in the House said his caucus could withhold the articles indefinitely.
“The delay is made necessary because the majority leader of the Senate has made it very clear that he’s not going to be impartial, he’s not going to be fair, he will collude, if you please, with the White House—at least the White House’s attorneys—to decide how he will go forward,” Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.), the House Majority Whip, told CNN. “Why would the speaker of the House step into that without trying to determine exactly what the majority leader plans to do?”
Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.), a member of the Intelligence Committee, said she supports the delay tactic.
“I think it gives her leverage; it gives the House leverage in terms of making sure that it’s not going to be a kangaroo court over there,” she told reporters. “If, in fact, they intend to not be an impartial reviewer of the facts, then it becomes a joke. And we’re not party to a joke.”
