THAILAND GOVERNNENT WILL GIVE AWAY 1,000,000 CANNABIS PLANTS IN JUNE

Unbelievable. The million plant giveaway!

There is no clarification if it's hemp or marijuana, in other words CBD or THC strains. The government says they're 'medical strains for medical use only' and recreational use is still forbidden but who can tell the difference? The sale of cannabis containing more then .02% THC is forbidden and companies have to be licensed to sell their hemp products. But home growers seem to be allowed to grow whatever they please and GROW AS MANY PLANTS AS THEY NEED. They don't have to be licensed! As long as they don't sell the stuff they can grow what and how much they want!

Despite Thailand's infamous war on drugs there's always been a clear distinction between medical and recreational use and cannabis has always been considered medicine and food. Thais love cannabis and one of the reasons stated for the million plant give away is to allow the cooking of traditional cannabis cuisine. The world is changing fast and this is a huge step in the right direction for Asian nations.

I know, it's hard to believe. Every article I've checked has been very careful to not say anything about whether the homegrown can have THC or CBD. I believe this is on purpose by the Thai government. They don't want to be seen as encouraging drug use but they also don't have the $$ or time to be testing every cannabis plant in every house in the country. They're very clear they will not be allowing sale of any THC products over .02% THC.

I believe when they say the plants they will be giving away will be 'medicinal' it means they will be CBD. By not requiring home growers to buy licenses from the state seems to me to be a 'don't ask, don't tell' type of policy. By restricting sale of THC it allows the government to still consider it a drug and shake down street dealers and tourists for money for fundraising purposes. The important part legally is they say 'medical use only'. Many years ago a friend got busted for a grow, he had a big sign on the wall saying 'medical use only'. He said the judge specifically let him off because of the sign. Even though he was obviously guilty as hell and his stepdaughter was the one who snitched on him.

A good friend from Thailand told me many years ago that drug cannabis was a big addiction problem there, almost as bad as opium so let's wait and see. :shucks:

Articles I read previously state that the 0.2 refers to extracts. I am still not completely clear though.
The regulatory framework will not allow THC extracts exceeding 0.2% in the public. This provision confused a lot of local ganja-preneurs but as Forbes Magazine explains, for these regulations “extracts” refer to cannabis derivatives that are made from specific methods such as hashish, and THC concentrates.

I listened to the potcast interview with Wallyduck a few days ago. He talks about the Thai attitude to cannabis as being very negative, and looked down upon as a working class thing. I can't believe Thailand has done this but great that they have. I can only think this is about tourism, as much as CBD for the masses. As an Australian, I hope this has a domino effect throughout Asia. Can't wait to visit and see this, and pleased to know I can visit with my Cannabis medicine.

geez imagine the logistics of going all over the country delivering cannabis plants to everyone ,
sounds nearly impossible , i wonder if they will release any more details on how they plan to do that and where are these 1 million plants in the meantime ....
I spoke via video chat to my brother in law who lives in Burriram , one of the provinces in the Isaan area that was once famous for their high grade cannabis ,
he is growing it in his front yard, i saw quite a few large plants ,
and he asked me to come and grow as much as we can on the family farm so we can open a shop and sell it ,

it seems things are already out of control as far as the government being able to keep up with what every household is doing ,
i doubt they even care about most of what is going on , and could easily be coaxed to look the other way anyhow ,, lol ...

personally im glad that the weed is finally free again there as it was part of the culture , used in soups and other dishes as a medicine prior to the eradication program encouraged by the Usa in the early 80s ...

Im sure in time it will bring a new range of tourism there also in the form of cafes and weed bars etc

I heard this from my Thai friend a long time ago, before meth was ever a problem AND also, she was a member of the Thai upper class, so both of the above statements stand. (y)

More headlines yesterday about Thailand's cannabis legalization, the only really new part is how they're releasing almost 4000 people from prison for cannabis offenses. Probably the best news I've heard this year and a sign they're serious about changing things for the better. There still hasn't been any clarification about the rules regarding THC, other then it's not allowed above 0.2% in extracts. This article contains a bit about people buying flowers at a cannabis cafe, supposedly strains like UFO, Bubblegum, Purple Afghani, and Sugarcane.

The article says that previously the cafe sold cannabis 'from parts of the plant that don't get you high'. Does that mean seeds and roots or also stems and leaves? I've actually made hash out of stalks, there's crystal there if you have enough. Now we know they're selling flowers but they don't clarify the THC content. The articles say 'both hemp and marijuana are legalized' which has to mean CBD and THC? As I said before I believe the Thai government is being purposefully vague. No one is asking the right question or at least not getting an answer.

They're certainly telling the public to keep their rec use on the down low, no mixed signals there. Smoking in public is punishable by up to 3 months in jail and a $780 fine. You can smoke all you want in private, as long as you claim it's medical. As I mentioned earlier extracts, including those used in the food trade, must stick to the 0.2 THC limit but they don't mention how much THC is allowed in flowers or leaves used in cooking. Seems to be a difficult thing to regulate. This leaves the door open for all sorts of excesses by the authorities, shakedowns, favoritism, corruption. Business as usual.

For a long time, since the mid 90s, I've had zero interest in visiting Thailand. There's so many places just as nice, that are less corrupt, less of a tourist trap, less corrupt and jaded, and less of a police state. This news does change my opinion a bit, which is a good thing.

So as the law is written now extracts with more than 0.2% is heavily regulated with prescriptions. And as you know it also applies to edibles.

No limit on buds.

Need licence for commercial growing. Household growing will in the future require notification of the grow trough a App.

Right now that is only encouraged /a recommendation since there is currently no punishment in the law for not notifying your grow.

The above is basically what the current law on paper translates into..

They havent finished making most of the regulations yet so they are basically telling us "Follow this and the rest is up to you, we will be back later this year on new rules or changes"

There isnt even a age limit on bud right now, the PM literally went out on tv and asked people to not give/sell cannabis to minors lol.

This actually sounds like similar to the old Laws we had in Switzerland 2000.

Back then Cannabis was illegal for Consumtion, but posession , growing it was legal. ( it was ment like if you wanna make perfume, or use it as Bath additive, of for Cattlefeed , so you can do this).

And guess what, if we were found with Cannabis by Police it was for Bath additive, of corse.. Also if they seen a plant in your garden, they would not do anything most of times, unless they had more indications you smoke it. They may check, and then you need to have your Excuse straight, otherwise they would interrogate you further.

Thats how it was. We could even grow Fieldwise (this Point may be different in Thailand, alltho thats probably how they do Studies, so they probably made a Limit for Households to keep it under Control, but if you grow an separate Greenhouse its unlimited? )

That could make sense, cause ive seen some folks on Insta , showing off alot grows, plus they fotographed busts of their greenhouses. So that would also be like we had it.. a very vague Law, and sometimes police turns up, and if they find out that a single joint was smoked without in the bounderies of Studies, medicalallowance, then they bust your whole Crop..

Thats how it was here.. and it changed from very lax policeforce unless explicitly caught smoking, to more and more busts as Time progressed. on the basis of some undercover police who found out it gets sold, or smoked.. Till finally they would find each and everyones true Intent, and by 2005 the golden Times were definitly over. Again, this was without any adjustments of laws it was just differently excuted

I dont mean to say this will happen to thailand (hard execution), i want to say, this is how the law in Thailand sounds to me, and depending on how its executed (relaxed or strict) it may become a nice place.

Sorry for the long explanation, im still swimming in the Dark,

Show me a guy firing a Joint up in his Garden then! Oficially, please

But what’ll happen to all those genuinely medicinal zero CBD pure Thai landraces when the government issue ‘medicinal’ plants flower, get pollinated, and produce F1s that go on to release hybrid pollen into the local gene pool?

All this crazy talk that CBD is more medicinal than a landrace Thai has got to stop.
It takes huge quantities of CBD to have any kind of medicinal effect if it even works at all which is why bedrolite is so seldom prescribed.

Pure Thai has a long history of safe medicinal use for a wide range of conditions and requires a comparably tiny dose.

When I see prices at 700 baht/gram today, I miss the old Khao San back alley with the rasta pubs where you got ripped 500 baht for just 5 grams of old good cambodian brick

A minimum wage in Thailand is around 350 baht a day
The average thai worker has to work 2 days for just one gram???

Prices more expensive than Amsterdam?
Quality is Amsterdam weed as well? Anybody tried it?
