Thai weed from Thailand

I liked the Tom Hill theory .
Several parents reversed , selected and reversed again , repeat . Each reversal is equal to 2 1/2 generations of M/F breeding . After s3 the plants are very inbred .
Then take the two best examples and reverse one onto the other . F1 vigour .
F1 vigor sounds like a theory. The more you inbreed the more you lose it. And some stuff is just vigorous aka sativas.

I was looking on the website of Seedsman if they still selling Mama Thai seeds, but unfortunately sold out. Only Twinky Winky varieties nowadays. Looked into comments section and found this comment from an old survivor 5 years ago.

The "Mama Thai" hybrid version of the seeds your distributing now has lost too much of the 'Beautiful Sunday afternoon' euphoria. The feeling that everything is alright and so am I. As a cancer survivor I assure you the positive attitude it brings is VERY important to re hab after such trauma as cancer! ` BRING BACK the 'Mother of Thai Stick'! The ORIGINAL "Mama Thai" ` Thank You From a 76 year old Surviving American!

You think is only Arjan, but almost everybody is giving seeds to the landrace farmers. And most of them are happy because landrace flowers have little market. If the customers of dispensary don't ask for Landraces this they are at risk of extintion because they are boycotted by the most parties of the modern cannabis culture

I never saw this post, put a fork in the old Thai Cannabis, seen in Thailand it's done.

This would be like the Champagne region of France pulling up their grape vines and growing hops to produce beer for German tourists.

They have no idea of what they have done.

If they had re produced the old Thai sticks they be cashing in right now and instead of all the excess Californian commercial weed being dumped into Thailand, they be exporting it to them.

Where are the two inbreed lines in that theory ?

Translated so as you might comprehend better . LOL .

Australia's been inundated with modern hybrids for several decades. Does that mean there are no people holding onto old strains? No. Same can likely be said of Thailand.

What is true is that the market will dictate that hybrids rule in Thailand. Doesn't mean there won't be niche markets. This thread is evidence of that.

A touch of racism always helps your argument.

I should know by now, that asking an inelegant question would only lead to a stupid response by set people.

So you start with a few females of lets say Haze you reverse them to allow them to open pollinate select from that seed repeat 3 generations.

You then after s3 select the best 2 plants reverse 1 and pollinate the other, and you get F1 vigour really ?

No you have now produced a s4 and heading towards in at lest 50% of the seed producing infertile plants and those plants would have very little vigour.

No .
Obviously the plants are selfed . Not open pollinated .
Not once did I mention open pollination .

Each plant you start with is it`s own IBL once it has been taken to S3 . Then the two that have characterictics you like mate them . There is your 2 IBL`s .

Sam used selfing to create a pure CBD line for Hortapharm . So it`s not a revelation ...

There are parts of Thailand no tourists really go.
I would assume they will have few if any interruptions for at least a couple years.
But i'd have to agree with hempy gene pool has no hope now.
Different regions in Thailand have different tribes .
Go over a mountain range and the language changes . Thailand has only been one nation since the 20th century . When 3 years of school were offered to those who wanted it . Creating 1 central language . Old folks who never went to school usually only have the local dialect .

There are people living in extreme poverty and tribes that live a traditional life . You might not find Sativas in BKK but there are many pockets that have limited interaction with westerners .
I stayed with a family in the North that grew everything they ate or drank . Only needed money for gasoline and electricity . They had never had a westerner at their home before .

Go and find some seed, then Chi13 if you think it's that easy.

How many people posting in this thread that are on the ground in search of even a smoke of old Thai in Thailand that can't find it or a half decent sativa high.

The only person to find anything close to the old Thai was BC in the way of a pre rolled joint.

Yes some are still holding these genetics but a lot less than most think.

It looks like sakon Phanom and Nakhon Phanom are going to be doused in dutch if not already.
Better to look up in Bueng Kan.

Finding proper tribal stuff might be a bit difficult? I have only visited a few tribal sorta villages like mon, hmong, karen. I don't have much knowledge about tribes really.

Tourists have trouble seeing much other than tourist stuff unless they are invited into the homes of the places they tour.

No one searching for anything on this thread had mentioned doing that really, one really has to interact with the locals just like they would in any of our countries otherwise they just look from the outside and barely see anything of the real life the people lead of how they live or what they have,
Boots on the ground is nothing without this interaction..

That`s the real deal .
I learnt in Burriram on my 1st trip about sticky rice . How to grab a chunk and keep it in my left hand . That has made good impressions in other places I have visited .
Speaking some Thai does help a lot .

But at home here in Oz there is a very limited market for Sativas . I grow them for my own consumption . But market prices are a half of what the hybrids go for .
OHaze , Thai , Zamal and Colombians not hot property .

Oh your down under too.
Well I know a lot of people who want sativa's, I've never met anyone else growing it though.
Unfortunately you are right, people wanna pay half price for something with triple the flower time.

People have been looking for the old Thai and other old sativas for years on the forums, a bit of reality check is needed on that one if people think they are easily found still.

Seed retailers like the RSC and the LRT and like Zomia have all been selling Thai seed that was sourced from with in Thailand well before any type of law reform was even a thought in Thailand, and how many of those lines that people grew in fact smoked like the old Thais ?

No one in Thailand would have even thought to preserve seed long term in a fridge or freezer, so for viable seed to still be there from the 70s it would have had to be only a few years old and that line would have had to have been grown fairly consistently since the 70s until now.
