Hello, growmies!

My tester pack just landed, so I thought it would be a good time to fire up this journal. I'm going to be planting them tonight, around 7pm(EST).

It looks like there's 14 seeds in the pack. So, I'm going to pop them all and let the chaos begin!

Looks like I miscounted how many beaners there were in the pack. Turns out, there was 15!

December 14th, 2023, 6:30pm:

They are each in their own cell and ready to rock n' roll.

Medium used:
1 part Sphagnum Peat Moss
1 part Perlite
1 part worm castings

Amended with BuildASoil's Craft Blend and BuildABloom products

Well water's natural pH is 7 and it's hard water. So, I don't have to worry about mineral deficiencies.

I will label the plants as they pop. It's easier for me to keep records when I do it like this, since the first bean to pop will be #1, instead of having it be #13 or some random nonsense.

December 29th, 2023:

Twelve seeds have popped, so far. I've been keeping a chart with phenotype numbers, lowest being the first to pop, highest being most recent to pop.

Some of them ended up with helmet head, so I sprayed them with a mist of water and took the seed casing off, very gently, with some tweezers. They should be just fine and make a full recovery.

Tuesday, January 16th:

I'm a touch late with an update this week. I had a surprise visit from my little sister and her daughter, so I wasn't in the garden much at all since Thursday.

Light cycle: 18/6 (on/off)
Light distance: 2'
Light intensity: 40%
Temperature: 52°F
Humidity: 64%
Soil temperature: 51°F
Water Temperature: 65°F

Notes:
- It's been 10 days since all seedlings popped out of the ground.
- I added a heater, today. It is going to hold at 73°F for the next week and a half. Then, I'm planning on bumping it up to 80°F with around 70% humidity.
- just natural well water.

Pictures taken on January 27th.

Light intensity: 50%
Light distance: 20"
Light cycle: 18/6 (on/off)

Temperature: 75°F
Humidity: 48%

Height: 6"-10"

Straight well water

I transplanted them into 1.5 gallon pots sometime last week. All of them but one has nice, white, healthy roots. The one that didn't only had one root that was a light tan color, but still worth mentioning, I feel.

Is there an optimal way to train these, or has nobody experimented with training these yet? Like, do they do good in scrog, SoG (sea of green), low stress training, etc.?

Photos taken February 4th.

Temperature: 75°F (day) / 60°F (night)
Humidity: 37%

Light intensity: 55%
Light distance: 20"

I'm not sure what's going on with two phenos, but they aren't liking life right now. I noticed they were a little droopy a couple days ago, so I checked the soil and noticed it was dry. So, I watered them. Yesterday, they looked a little worse. Maybe those pots have a dry pocket? Those two phenos might not like the temperature drop at night, perhaps?

Other than those two plants, everything seems to be running well.
I'm adding another light, later today. I'm also going to hit the plants with very light top dress of Craft Blend from BuildASoil, as well as water them with a mild mix of BuildABloom for some root growth nutes and extra potassium.
The humidifier I ordered still hasn't been delivered, so I'm waiting on that. I can't wait to get the VPD of this room where it should be.

Pheno#1 isn't doing too hot. I have a feeling it won't be with us soon.

The other two droopy phenos are trying to stay alive. I still don't understand what's wrong with them. They're getting the same treatment as all the other plants.

February 12th:

Added a worm castings / peat moss / craft Blend top dressing for the Runts.

The humidifier finally made it! So, that's hooked up and set to hold the 8'×8' at 60% RH

Temperature is still at 65°F, due to turning a quarter of the tent into a dry area. The plants should be finished drying by the end of the week, so I'll be able to finally turn the veg tent into a jungle!

Photos taken Sunday, February 17th:

Light intensity: 40%

I sprayed everything with an organic fungicide/insecticide the day before photos and didn't wait quite long enough before I flipped the lights back on. Some spots on fan leaves got bleached because of it, unfortunately. I even dropped the light intensity and forgot to turn it back up.

This is the last day of a springtime temperature stress test. One plant was culled earlier in the week due to poor growth (pheno #1) and weak structure. There are two others that are dwarfed by the others as well, so I moved them out of the 8'×8'. Their growth just isn't quite there compared to the others.

Temperature was adjusted to 75°F after photos were taken. Nothing but delicious humidity and warm breezes for the duration of veg.

Finally started LST.

Pheno#3 is looking the best, so far. There are three others in the running for second place, at the moment. But, all of them are pretty uniform as far as structure goes. All have very broad leaves and no sign of narrow leaf dominance at all.

Wednesday, February 28th, 2024:

Hitting them with some IPM, so I thought I'd share. It's a homemade suffocant and fungicide:

1 gallon warm water
1 tablespoon baking soda
1 tablespoon Vegetable oil
1 teaspoon Castille soap (I use peppermint)

I drop lighting until the plants are dry. Well, except last time. I turned them on a little too soon and bleached leaves.

I'll give an official update on Saturday.

I've been doing stem rubs over the past week and have noticed that a few phenotypes smell like Bubblicious® Cotton Candy bubble gum. Very sweet scented, for sure.
This is actually the first cultivar I've grown that has a unique smell during veg and not a planty, peppery smell.

Lateral branching is finally taking off. I'm going to have to do some more LST this week, but they are almost ready to flip into flower, training wise.

Most of the phenotypes are finally starting to show their sex, which is exciting to me! It's still too soon to be able to tell what is what, but they're on their way.
I was told by an old head that you don't want to put plants into a flowering cycle unless they are mature and showing their sex. So, that's what I've always done.

Until next week.

I topdressed with some worm bedding and castings, only to find out a few aphids made their way into my worm bins. So, I get to kill them all this week! I'm not sure how I'll get rid of them in my worm bins, but I have to figure out something. Diatomaceous Earth, maybe?

Looking like it's time for a defoliation. I'm going to slow down the top growth and let the bottom branches finish catching up. I may do some super cropping when necessary.
