Temperature measurement

When people talk about measuring temperature, do they mean the temperature at the top/bottom of the room? Top of the plant?

In my tent it can be 95 at the top of the bulb, 75 at the bottom of the tent or 85 at the top of the plant, what should I answer when somebody asks me 'what do ur temps look like?' :)

I use a handheld ir thermometer take the actual surface temps of the girls at canopy level. Quick easy and accurate I assume

You need better air circulation, and much better exhaust.

In my tent the temperature is determined by the distance from the bulb. I know that my plants do not appreciate the temperatures over 78 degrees at any time to I ensure that the area the plants are in is always beneath that number.

The shady parts of the grow space, and the spots further from the light, are always going to be cooler but your temperatures in the tent should not differ by 20 degrees. A greater amount of circulation should even out the temps.

The temperature at the bottom of your tent is where I keep my canopy. I'd suggest dropping your temperatures (perhaps through improved ventilation) and to keep the warmest temperature in your tent not over 82 degrees.
