You can add it to wheatgrass? How about molasses? Damn! Wish I'd known that. I've been growing biodynamic wheatgrass in a simple hydro system in my kitchen and I love growing it, but I absolutely hate the taste! What do you think of wheatgrass in general? Noticed any health benefits?

try juicing, wheatgrass, carrot, and apple together. i dont like the taste of wheatgrass, but the apple and carrot( you can even add beet ) to it. makes it taste great!

HELP IM BREWING ACID...LOL

HELP IM BREWING ACID...LOL

ok so i have recently made the switch to organic teas for my girls. why is my tea PH at 4.5 when its done brewing? recipe i used is as follows-

1/3 cup EWC
2 tbs molasses
2 tbs high N guano
1 tbs liquid humus
1-2 tbs of maxicrop liquid seaweed.

all that in about 2 gallons of tepid water. brew for 36 to 48 hours then dilute 50/50 with tepid water. PH after dilution is 4.5. WTF? i used some canna rhizotonic to bring my ph up to 5.9 to 6.1.

Awesome advise. But the best teacher is experience. Don't spend too much time on the forums. Spend time with your plants.

i have a question for all you tea heads out there.....In flowering I know its all good to feed with a guano tea every watering with no fear of burn .... now my question is does this apply for veg as well? Last brew I did:
1/3 cup ewc -
1/3 cup vermicompost
capful of maxicrop -
1 tbspn of high n guano
- 1 tspn of molasses -
1/2 tspn of alfalfa per gallon of h20-
and right before watering added a little bit of super plant tonic(myco) & hygrozyme -
& the babies have just exploded and loved it- I gave it to them straight up & lil' the seedlings got this mixed 50/50 with water - what do you guys think? should I keep following up with another brew or just plain water? - In theory I think tea everytime wouldnt hurt would it? thinking of adding a tspn of seabird guano to this mix as well- Let me know what you guys think-Id really appreciate the knowledge! Please share it -

First off, thanks for wealth of knowledge here to everyone who positively contributed.

I am going to try using light wort extract used in brewing beer as a replacement for molasses due to it's content beyond sugar - everything else in barley.

Any thoughts?

Firstly I bow ot the wealth of well informed knowledge that is here. Thanks CT for drilling down in to the basics of tea for us, it's a confusing world.

CT please can I hear more of your opinion on Guano. All i hear is good news about flavour and how they get the best mangos from guano roch soil.

You say you'd do a drench with it. What strenghts?

What is your main objection to brese my tea for. wing a tea with it?

How long can I use the tea for? Can I continue ot aerate it?

Safety

I think guano is fine, it's high P and I know a lot of growers that swear by it. I'm more inclined to attribute it's benefits to the soluble nutrients it contains than the biology in it. If it were me, I'd scratch it into the surface or topdress. If I wanted to make a tea, I'd cut out the brewing cycle and just get it to dissolve in water so I could spray it onto the plants. Having a brewing cycle and adding foods could potentially extract and replicate pathogens, since we are dealing with a manure. That being said, there are many people who do brew teas with guano and I haven't heard any negative reports. I have no personal experience or microscope experience with guanos though.

I would wager that the soluble nutrients in guano are minimal and that the majority of the nutrients are 'processed' into ionic form by soil microbes. Because of this I maintain that topdressing with guano is the wiser use of this organic matter. This is actually also as recommended by Jay, Von and CrazyC if I'm not mistaken. There is probably some soluble nutrients in guano. If you do mix it with water I'd use it only as a soil drench and not as a foliar spray. The stomatae could become blocked.

you can make liquid soaks if you want. the guano i used to use claimed 15% N and the other was i think 10% P was water soluble, no need to aerate just soak in water overnight and dilute if you made it strong and apply. but its way easier to just top dress and then water with some compost tea.

Here is an article about the content of malt extract I plan on using. I can buy it powdered or liquid at the local brew shop in small amounts.

Here is a link to the exact nutritional content of another malt extract, I assume the conent to be very similar.

It seems superior to molasses to me, especially since it is available to me as dry powder, I hate sticky molasses. I will report how it works, but I don't own a microscope...

Runs about 5 bucks a pound, any guesses as to amounts to experiment with? I was thinking a teaspoon or two for a 5 gal bucket with 4 gallons water to replace molasses...

Where do I get some? Would a store like Whole Foods have it? Let me know and I'll go ahead and run some tests with the microscope for you. I just got some agave syrup I've been meaning to play around with, and it would be easier to do them both at the same time.

Any brewing supply store where they sell malted barley, hops, and brewers yeast. Try googling "home brew" or "brewing store" along with your locale. Breiss is a standard manuacturer many American stores will sell. May be able to order online also.
