Running my second batch of tea today. 2 tsp Fish hydro(vital), 6 tbs molasses, 2 tbs dried sea kelp, 1 cup compost(vital organic), 1 cup EWC (Roots organics) to 5 gal RO water. Nothing bubbled up this time, so I left out the veg oil. Also, I used plastic to help with the splash, I will have to take a pic tomorrow.

The oil in the fish will prevent foaming. Your tea sounds good, I think your plants will be pleased.....scrappy

This makes perfect sense. Last brew I only did EWC and molasses. Thanks Scrappy.

My 15 gal tank should come next week. Anybody have any recipes for that size tanks?

I used fish emulsion at the rate of one tablespoon per gallon and had plenty of foaming. NEVER use emulsion in a tea however as it smells like Satan's asshole!

Just re-read some info, hydrolysates still have the oils and emulsions do not. DOH!

BOUNTEA IS GOOD STUFF, not cheap tho. I paid ten bucks for the brew food and bloom booster. You basically add ur fungaland bacterial source.

For me its ancient forest alaska humisoil (what the bountea asks for) and worm castings, i do equal parts of each, just a little palmful. Then a quarter cup of the bountea food, which is dried molasses seaweed and yucca. Their bloom booster has seaweed, yucca and powdered fish.

I would like to thank jesus most of all, but heady blunts, big ballin, microbeman, mad lib, and many others to say the least.

Not sure if you were talking to me, but here is a pic with just water. When my 15 gal comes in I will take some pics of that running. I hope that arrives any day, I just found out it only got shipped yesterday. So I hope by the end of the week.

Yo Bullfrog, are you using a diffuser in your uppipe?

Nope, I believe the idea behind a air lift brewer is when the air lifts the water up the pipe, it causes pressure build up. When that pressure builds up it causes the oxygen to bind and break down with the water. So in other words, it has the same effect. Correct me if I am wrong people.

I would totally use one if I didn't think it would be a major pain in the butt to keep clean. I just need a microscope now to make sure my tea's are dancing.

Microbeman - do you sell any scopes that takes digital pics?

You are right, but the original DIY vortex design yours is based on used an airstone in each up-pipe to create more of an unrelenting stream of tiny bubbles rather than bigger pockets of air. I would very much like to avoid any form of diffuser in my up-pipe, so seeing the success you're having with an Eco5 & 1.25" pipe gives me confidence I can avoid a diffuser with an Eco3 and 1" pipe. Thanks! :jump:

diffusers will result in greater DO2 but not necessarily greater flow. I posted the math for airlifts in here somewhere.

So, any recipes for 15 gal?

Edit: came across this

MICROBEMAN recipe (amazing! tea turns black and smells neutral)

compost or vermicompost (EWC) 24ml/L
molasses 5ml/L
kelp meal 2.5ml/L (max)
fish hydrolysate .66ml/L

make sure you have at least .04 cfm/gal. best harvest time 36-44 hours. add nutrients AFTER brew is complete.

Maybe I will just use this ratio, anybody have any comments to add?

so I just got my supplies today for brewing up small batches of tea, and I noticed the air lines have that real nasty pvc smell goin on. I tried to wash them but they still smell really bad.. anybody think that will mess up my microbes while Im brewing the tea, or am I just being paranoid?
