Talking to kids about the garden. Dilema.

So I'm setting up and maintaining a grow for a friend. Typical couple with kids... The grow is for recreational private use. Friend of a friend stiuation... anywho.

Its your typical backyard shed grow, and I got my materials laid out, buckets everywhere etc.. etc..

The kids come home, from school they're playing in the backyard and they're saying hi GGW!.. whatcha doing?.. Young kids.. elementary school.. The oldest one (jr high) watches them. But its their backyard I cant exactly shoo them away. Mom and dad are in and out of the house all day...

Typical Questions I get all day long...

Kid: Whatcha doing?.. Can I help?...
GGW: Um no, I'm doing work for your mom and dad..

Kid: What are you making?.
GGW: Uh... Stuff...

I guess I feel like I should talk to them and say.. this is your parents garden, and we dont talk about it ok?.. Or should I just keep dodging the questions. I dunno.. I've tried bribe them by letting them dig in my cooler for a sodapop. I guess I'm a little freaked out.. paranoia, security concerns.. Its got me thinking..

Never good to have young children know what's up because DARE makes cannabis out to be evil. Be careful. As long as you don't tell them there's cannabis you're fine

talk to parents and get the story straight, if your maintaining it maybe set a schedule for when the kids are in school.

"my daddy has plants with those kind of leaves"

db: They know what it is.. I think they just want to hear it. I dont want to say it tho.

vb: True.. I guess I could set up a schedule to avoid the kids.. I dunno... not realistic to have no contact, eventually our schedules will overlap. Im already trying to avoid them by getting stuff done before they get home.

It's their irresponsible parent's job, not yours.

Mebby..

I still think i'm accountable, I gotta ask them to move away when I working with tools..

They do recognize me as an authority figure, I told them to turn off the hose when they were done with it.. etc.. etc..

Mebby I'll just say "Its a garden".. and leave it at that. A boring response for them should keep em away.

Sounds a whole lot better than this is for growing marijuana....

Why don't you just teach the parents what to do ? They are going to end up with their kids in state custody ,and maybe them in jail for child endangerment or some other fabricated non sense. Do you really want to be involved in a police investigation ? I can see this situation going in a number of directions and they all end bad.

u & the parents caught a snipe

"whats a snipe uncle g?"

its a big, smelly green monster that tears the arms off little children & eats their brains... and is going to live in the shed... boo!

Do not tell those kids what it is. Tell them it is none of their business. Really the gardening work should be done while the kids are not there.

The kids do not have the need to know.

The monster story is not sustainable.

This has to be happening somewhere where it's legal for this to be happening, right?

I wouldnt even do the work. That's sad that the parents didn't concern themselves on what they were going to tell the kids and then fill you in.

I fail to see how any of this is your problem, other than the fact that you are involved in the crime of "conspiracy" with a couple of dumb, irresponsible parents that don't have the foresight to keep the kids away from you while you work. That being said, why the hell would you consider telling the kids anything specific? What good could possibly come of that? That's a weird inclination to have, man. The only response other than "leave me alone and let me work" should be "go ask your parents."

You can't fool or lie to kids these days, too clever.......

Talk with the parents, explain your concerns to them, work it out on that level. They're the ones who need to create an understanding for their kids.

Once kids' curiosity is aroused, they'll seldom settle for things to remain a mystery.

I know a guy who's stepdaughter ratted him out for getting high. He got a couple years probation for simple possession. It's risky having it around kids where it's illegal. Even if they don't believe the DARE propaganda, all it takes is for them to get pissed off about something trivial like being grounded.

If the parents can't square this up with the kids in a way that keeps you comfortable, you need to clear out.

My still at home adult children are fully informed, know the drill, know their rights & how to act when dealing with authority. Little kids are a different story entirely, one I really wouldn't know how to deal with. OTOH, I've known tokers over the years whose kids knew about how some things are private family matters, not to be discussed with anybody- never anybody whose kids got them in trouble.

btw, as long as those kids don't ever see you w/plants in hand or tending a standing garden you're in the clear, building a grow shed is 100% legal in all 50 states, it's what the owner himself grows in that shed which might be suspect.......
