What's new

Talk is cheap, life is short

Just skimmed through thread and saw your interest in tea . I've attributed a lot of success to it this year, always nice to see an organic product show results hours after application.

for a 55 gal I add into a t-shirt, panty hose, any type of breathable fabric:

10 cups vermi green compost
4ish cups BLACK castings(not in tshirt loose in bucket, runs through pump fine
Tsp per gal high brix molasses
Some kelplogic, a concentrated kelp by sea green company
1cup insect frass during last 2 hrs of brew
Rhizoboost in last 15 min(myco product)
2 cups baseline ( humic acid)
Last but not least, ppd

Let it brew for 12-24 hrs keep a tarp on it to fight uv from killin bennies. Keep warm if possible by keepin it inside a gh/ shed, a water heater, or paint ur bucket black.

Also for dep I have had succes with a light precipitated bone meal (0-50-0) top dress, and addin Krazy kelp 1-0-17 to tea.

J-1 / XJ-13 from Harborside (really lame how the "XJ-13" name got to be, anyone know/wanna hear the story?)

XJ-13 was a CIA spy airplane that flew on the edge of space, upwards of 50k feet..

Harborside cuts you have, It sounds like you are pretty close to me? I always thought it would be too cold to grow outside in the Bay area, hows the Bayarea weather effecting yield or growth??

Not X-13?

The way I heard / saw / experienced it, when the "XJ-13" cut was introduced into the SR-71/Blue Sky nursery's catalog, it was initially mistaken as "a G-13 cross", when in fact it had no G-13 in it at all. It was mislabeled from the beginning; the guy who claims to have passed that cut passed it as "J-1" (Jack Herer x Skunk #1); how the X ended up there is somewhat of a mystery.

I'd like to say a little more about it but I think it is best not to at this moment, out of respect for some people.

Yeah, I did my shopping at Harborside. I'm not far, but not too close either.

It's real windy where I'm at. The nights were cold to start the dep, but it's been better lately. Only had a 2-3 cloudy days, not too bad.

The only thing affecting the growth is me.

I don't see a problem with it. I just wonder how large the market is, though. Can you sell $1M in seeds if you had it? I think it would be somewhat difficult to market and pick up steam on if starting from scratch, very time consuming & potentially expensive R&D and distribution if you wanted to make serious money at it, since you're probably not going to sell too much of just one kind. You'd need a huge faithful following (kinda like REZDOG once had, for instance) to get past the "hobby level".

Just my take and opinion on how the seed biz works.

I think starting and operating a clone nursery would be much more profitable with a larger market, lower costs on just about everything, and beats the seed biz in almost every aspect in terms of numbers.

What prompted the question?

GHS has had a much bigger head start and also likely has R&D and marketing costs larger than most. I think it'd be somewhat expensive to be a real competitor to come up from behind and take a sizable chunk of the market, and a slow start at it.

I'd love to know what the numbers are like for some of the larger organizations, but personally I just can't see it being all that lucrative compared to bud.

I think going from [investment] to $1M in 1 year with a seed biz will take a lot more work, money and and "luck" than other ways. I can't see it being a "sure thing", either. I strongly believe that almost anyone with a strong will, work ethic and a (relatively) little bit of resources can make $1M in 1 year the "other way". I think your thread is proof of that.

Lively thread. Entertaining and educational! Thanks!

I was raised in a city that is known to be one of the wealthiest in the states because everyone saves there money... dutch families.

I don't mind the lifestyle, it's comfortable... We don't waste on hype and impulse purchases. Everything is researched extensively prior to purchase... Oh, and coupons! Love me a sale - good value.

Thanks for checking out my grow, TerpeneTom! I thought you were gonna say Jewish families. And I'm not even trying to be "anti-semitic", have had a few Jewish friends that came from wealthy families because it was their inherent tradition to "save for future generations".

I try to not be so wasteful, but it's a hard habit to break out of. I like to think that I do a decent amount of research before purchases, but I also know that I make impulse purchases at times. Kinda like that time when I balled out and got all that extra MacSauce(tm).

I do love a good value, and as far as coupons go I love the 20% online coupons that are always available at Harbor Freight! I'm also a sucker for getting multi-pack toothbrushes that have like a "Save $0.75 NOW!" sticker coupon on it. Even though most of the time both the checkout clerk and I forget the coupon and I'm left with it unused.

That's one of my worst problems. I was being accused of it big time yesterday and it finally sunk in, maybe they're right

Some folks know how to keep it classy, with or without money. :tiphat:

Some just can't help but to...

I think one of the biggest hurdles in seed is running enough numbers. If one has the balls to run thousands of plants, its much easier to find stunners.

Made a few crosses myself on my first dep, pulled two males aside, one a peyote purple and another is 5gred,5g blue dream or bay 11 whatever it was it smelled good. Touched up some 5g blue dream, sfv og, blueberry diesel, cadillac purple, and peyote purple.

Hopin something will turn out fire if not it will still be an educational experience. My goal is to eventually have a large archive of genetics
in case something funky happened to my moms or if I get busted again I can rebound right away. A seed company would be the dream, you can provide them worldwide and I'm sure demand is increasing.

Nerd I see you do a great deal of your clone shoppin at harborside. I recommend you try cadillac purple from them and maybe the candlyand cut for a personal if you enjoy cookies.Platinum bubba is also nice and being kept as a mom. Be weary of other strains though the platinum kush I got sucked. I also reccommend something hardcore when shopping there, Magus/indicate 5 dips are nice.

I have had great success with the Kens gear I got there, Phantom cookies especially for its yield and quality. They are labeled under P2P because they ripped Ken off but its nice not having to order them.

If you ever come up to Humboldt, Humboldt patient is aight, got a bunch of cuts their this year to boost my dep. Usually comes with complimentary mites but prices are decent($7-10), solid genetics, and they will sell you 100s at a time.

Got the $75 Harbor Freight utility pump with 120' head (52 psi). Looks like there won't be any oil issues, besides any residue from manufacturing. 3/4" female NPT inlet and outlet. I believe it was under $62 out the door with a 25% off coupon, plus a free 5' x 7' tarp. :woohoo:

Came with two brass 3/4" male pipe thread to 3/4" hose thread adapters, an extra set of carbon motor brushes and what looks to be a plastic screen for an inlet hose.

Haven't installed and run it yet but looks pretty promising for driving a couple hundred feet of drip emitter tubing after a couple hundred feet of 3/4" PVC.

That will connect to a 275 gallon IBC tote, with a 2" male pipe thread drain fitting and valve. The valve appears to be some cheap plastic swing valve that might not last a ton of operations, so I'll use a separate valve to positively shut off flow to the pump.

Using these fittings to make a connection from tank to pipe/pump.

These filters are supposedly rated for constant high pressure applications. This is a 1" model but I will be using 3/4" pipe. I'm planning to place it immediately after the pump, which will be immediately after the tank.

These fittings are 3/4" PVC male slip x 1/2" compression adapters. It will let me push and lock in a 1/2" hose into a 3/4" PVC fittings.

Glued & taped:

Need to get an extra manifold start fitting so I can easily detach the pump from the tank. Can't see needing it right away but would be a nice feature to have "just incase". For now I'm going to glue in a solid pipe. For segments like this I'll be using SCH40 PVC. For the long runs to the garden I'll be using SCH20 which is less than half the price. In high traffic areas I'll use SCH40.
