Takes on Spirituality?

It's hard to look at the world today and have faith in humanity....but just in the week or so I've been participating here, I'm really impressed with how open, honest and helpful people are...I like to believe for every douche bag out there there's 2 equally decent people...I could be wrong, but it keeps me going.

A light hearted look at some decent acts, might make ya smile....

Let's be honest here, this is at least your 3rd account. I can tell just by reading your signature and other subtle clues.

When I practiced Christianity, I read the bible from cover to cover a couple times...and there's rape, murder, incest...which are obvious, but I never read anywhere about drugs...they drank wine, lots of wine...but they never said anything about cannabis or others substances.

I asked a Christian friend of mine a while back what he thought about cannabis(he is very devout), he said it was a gateway drug...so I proceeded to send him article after article about it's medicinal properties. He had no clue...only what he'd learned in church.

Yeah that was my experience, no mention of drugs yet at the very least opium usage was well documented long before Christ's time. So at the very least there should have been some mention of it in the new testament. The close thing I've found and I forget which book chapter and verse but it was in reference to wine and how it can become sinful when done in excess. Of course one can also argue that anything done in excess is covered by the deadly sin known as gluttony. The only other remote reference to things like marijuana, peyote, psilocybin, cocaine, opium, etc. is Genesis 1:29 where it says "And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat."

As for the whole gateway drug notion, I so hate that reference. It's a totally nonsensical idea to begin with. It suggests that if you can keep a person from trying a certain drug that it will prevent them from doing all other drugs, yet if a person would not do drugs without doing this one first why would they do the gateway drug in the first place? The real gateway drug is, that in an effort to control behavior we've lied to our children about the true nature of drugs and the risks and dangers involved. Such that when they try them, they find it's not as bad as they were told and so they proceed to try other drugs reasoning that they were likely lied to about them as well.

Hippies called western sativas "buddha" for a reason

rastas revered lambsbread for a reason

the right cannabinoid profile will change how you think and perceive the world just like mushrooms or DMT the right smoke can be VERY psychedelic ESPECIALLY if you mix them opening "gateways" in the mind by stimulating and growing new neuro pathways (proven that pot does this, posted on IC mag)

The term is entheogenic substances. Basically a class of drugs that produce a mystical experience. Pot is definately on the list

most people use psychedelics including pot and lsd without the proper guidance and it changes perspectives for the worse. Simply put we can look to see the difference around us or the commonalty. One is a catalyst to discord the other a catalyst to harmony.

let me explain first by giving you an understanding of relative and universal truth in regards to human perception, something I learned something in my quest to find what lay beyond my own ego. It is an important discovery, at least for me, in understanding the cause and effect of human nature.

This is one is best taught by analogy however.

A man is on the equator in Asia and a man in on the equator in America, in Asia it is night in America it is daytime.

If we were to ask them to look up at that they see, and one says night and the other day, who is right? If they both respond sky, once again who is right?

In this example which truth is relative and which one is universal?

why are these distinctions necessary?

what is true for an individual may be right from that individuals perspective but not universally right for others, so our relative interpretation of the truth, regardless of its accuracy, manifests itself in our world in the way it influences our actions.

well regardless of what you believe, what you are believing biases and influences your actions.

so what does it matter? where am I going with this?

it has it's practical applications as well, such as in the great organic vs inorganic threads but an even greater value is when you apply it to humanity around you.

there is a Buddhist saying to the effect of "enlightenment to 3000 lifetimes" and I believe, among other aspects, that this is in essence a description of understanding enough core yet varying relative perceptions that you see the universal perception that lies beneath them all. Simply if you were to come to understand the varying relative perceptions held by mankind you would be able to distill truth universal. Reverse engineering understanding in others by understanding all the relative truths of one's own self. It is as if all these different eyes viewing humanity give it a new three dimensional aspect of humanity in and of itself.

there is a joy you get when you can find a bit of the same "truth" in everyone you meet regardless of the polarity of your personalities or beliefs. With an understanding of the same truth that lies in us all you can unlock your own full potential, because our full potential it is implicitly tied to the people around us.

mankind is designed from the same DNA and in that design in the potential for humanitarianism and social synergy regardless of how that DNA was created and mankind of all shapes sizes creed and colors has possessed intuition of such from the beginning regardless of how it is expressed

Nope, first timer here, just a veteran to forums in general, my first foray being back in 2008 at a pretty intense, mean philosophy forum...My old man is the returned oldie/newbie here, I'm just getting my feet wet.

I stopped taking you seriously after reading the tarot cards.

And also please take in this quote from the very first page of the bible..

11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.

Interesting thing to be discredited on, I'd be glad to give ya a reading if you are willing to test the waters.... :tiphat:

spirituality .......... hmmmm

it has been the motivation behind great deeds and things that make you think that if there is i higher power it just does not give a fuck

mother teresa and these fucking assholes http://worldnews.nbcnews.com/_news/...ys-tot-is-the-antichrist-chile-cops-say?lite= both believe in the same god.

WTF is anyone with a brain suppose to think about spirituality when they see something like this????

Because it is a simple illustration of the truth that is illuminated within the pages of all dogmatic and philosophical tomes

That we have free will to use any concept to further the ends of our own personal gain versus using any concept for the benefit of all of mankind

mother theresa as were buddha and christ, are examples of humans who embraced the highest potential of our beings, not the most base and carnal facets.

any one can walk the evil paths but it takes something more to walk the enlightened ones

http://www.sgilibrary.org/search_dict.php?id=2282

it starts with desire and will. the desire and will inside of you that is influenced by the desire and will you see expressed in others

you want to be hilter or mother theresa? you can be either, anyone can, its a matter of choice (and being influenced in a way to know that such a choice exists) and desire

my understanding of free will was born from biblical teachings and my understand of life state was taught to me through the writings if Nichiren

were would i be if i had experienced neither?

were would I be if i decided not to manifest these understandings in my being?

what does that illustrate about the validity of the influence of a concept and the potential outcome?

if influence and outcome = result how does this lend credence to the validity of the variables in that equation

leary as well as other esteemed scientists of the highest caliber recreated the religious experience and they questioned the validity based on the fact it was facilitated by psychobilin

the answer criteria for the basis for the experience is not the vehicle but the experience itself

by virtue of our DNA our psychological makeup is such that regardless of our seeming differences we are all same human nature, because it is dictated by the same dna

regardless of whether the DNA were created randomly or not, our analogs are still created from the same base "code" and that observation was made by our ancestors fo all races creeds and colors long ago regardless of their ability to understand the scope of it in their particular time and space places

our understanding unfolds and evolves as understanding of the world according to the past generation is passed down to the next generation.
