Synethste's EasyRyder Micro-Hydro Cab Grow Log!

Hey kids!

I've been out of the loop for a few years, but I'm back in the game! This is my first indoor, hydroponic, and micro grow so I'll need all the help I can get!

Heres the plan:

My stealth cab is 24" - 18" - 9" (Small I know, I'm learning the basics before I go bigger)

I'm running 163 watts of CFL's putting out around 9500 - 10k lumens.

It's got a fan in, and a fan out... Starting the seeds in the rockwool... I'm starting with three plants, which way seem like a lot for such a small space, and it probably is. I'm taking into account the possibility of loosing one or more of them for whatever reason... If all three turn out, I may have to pull one out later on, which I am fine with.

I'll worry about nutes in a week or two, I'm thinking FloraNova...

Check it out... as you can see, I've spaced out the net pots to give the plants as much room as possible between each other. And good lord, it's bright in there.

Unique-Hydroponics... though, I know a guy who knows a guy who got it for cheap, I can't recommend buying any of their cabs, they are expensive and it only ships with 69 watts, I had to modify it to cram those 68 watters in there. It also ships with miracle grow nutes (yuck) and there is no way to put the lights on a timer, and have the pump running constantly unless you drill another hole... The box itself is fairly well built, sturdy, ply wood, little to no light leaks (save for the fan holes) the wiring for the fans is solid. Had I not gotten a great deal on it, I would have built my own... I'm not sure of the temps, I had a that little crap thermometer in there and it was reading 90 degrees, which I find pretty hard to believe, the cfl's run pretty cool and they have the fan sucking out hot air, and one pulling in cold... I'll have to get a quality one.

Lookin' good Bloodlock, I'll have to keep an eye on that one for sure! I'm a bit concerned about pH as well, my tap water is around 5.5 and I mixed a bit in with spring water at 6.8... should be around 6.5 but I really have no idea, I have some pH test kits, but they only go as low as 7.4.... I'll have to get a pen soon.

Hay Synethste, Nice little stealth box u got going. The ph will play a big part in the plants uptake for nutes it needs. I would invest in a good electronic meter if you have the cash. Im kinda strapped for cash at the moment and im using the basic old indicator and ph.up/Down as needed. Do you plan on using that for veg/Flower or not?

it seems like anybody who builds a pc case for sale thinks there worth 3 times what they are, theese things should be about 120 dollars tops.

Well I can see one of the beans has begun to pop, the others are too far in the rockwool to see... but hopefully I will have some sprout pictures to show off tomorrow...

I got it the box and all for $150 and I couldn't be more pleased. All I had to do was recess the power strip to fit my giant bulbs... easy job with the jigsaw.

No sprouts as of now, but the seeds are starting to poke their heads out... had to flip one around because it popped upside down... I'm going out to the pet store to pick up a T valve and some more airline tubing... unless I can find a way to get a stone under each pot, that'd be ideal. Ambient temperature is right around 85 degrees... which still seems high, the incoming air through the fan is 75 degrees, and I've got the exhaust fan right next to the bulbs... The water is around 78 degrees... Think it should be ok?

that rockwool looks really saturated, maybe let it use up approx. 75% of it water before the next watering.. also, maybe needs more humidity.

WELL... I started germinating two more seeds, because I really don't see these two pulling through. I drained the water from the rock wool, and lowered the water to about a quarter inch below the pots... The droplets from the airstones ( I put one under each pot ) should be enough to water them till they develop roots. Couple more days then... No biggie. -.-

OK... Let's try that again, shall we?

These guys are off to a good start, I made sure to only keep the rock wool damp...

Day 1 for these guys

This guy survived the first round, but has been really slow to show any growth... about day 7 or 8 for this guy

DAY 10 - Alright people... update time!

Things are progressing well... I tapped the sides of the cups with the aluminum foil, to try and block more light out of the roots, I noticed a lot of light was getting through these tiny cups. I also bought a pH pen, my pH is a bit high at 6.9 but I'm lowering it slowly. I noticed the round leaves starting to yellow, so I fed a VERY mild dose of FloraNova Grow.

And I know its hard to see in this picture, but the roots to the right, up at the top are showing a bit of browning. Could this be early onset root rot? : (
