I'd really like to thank everyone for the positive input in the thread, alot of lucid thoughts from you all & hope that it helps even just one person that reads through the thread. Our vehicles are somewhat a reflection of ourselves, if they look right/correct there is that much less of a reason to be suspect in the eyes of law enforcement. A cop will likely NEVER go to court saying "I didn't like the looks of the car he was driving" but if you're stopped & found holding weed you're at the mercy of the court in respecting the word of the cop as to why you were actually stopped. Again, the roadways are their turf and we're targets, don't have that obvious 'bullseye' look of a suspicious vehicle and be that much closer to sliding past any cop w/o a 2nd look by them.

Take the cue from soulfly who's quoted below. That $200 it might've cost to repair his windshield would've saved him from a world of hurt & lost opportunities by now having a felony record.

Got a headlight out? Replace it, they count on us being too lax in the repair of our cars to get their arrests up. To them it's called "good basic police work" and a VERY legit stop. Once stopped you're at their mercy as when they find something to bust you for they can make ANY excuse as to why they suspected you (nervous behavior etc) and searched, the judge will take their word about 100% of the time.

I wont go into details - but this alone (broken windshield) is what got me pulled over in AZ and now have 2 felony counts. Keep it safe and fix stuff on your vehicle ASAP!

I would hate to know ANYONE else went through what I did over something as simple as a broken windshield!

We also need to remember they'll pull you over for whatever they want, even if your car is up to date and safe. They'll make up excuses. You have to assume you WILL get pulled over every single time you drive. Anything else is being careless.

If you have any kind of bumper sticker on your car go ahead and take it especially anti-drug, pro law enforcement, bands, stickers that give away certain locations (if they think you're out of town its more likely that they will pull you), or any other kinds of symbols are all things cops love to and will profile.

For instance... I refuse to get into any car with a Grateful Dead, Phish, Zeppelin, or Pink Floyd sticker. All good bands don't get me wrong but I just like to avoid police whenever possible. Kind of fall under the radar type thing I take pride in now.

Sucks what the man makes you do. Can't express yourself, effectively have to be silenced and turned into a drone just to keep your freedom. Sad. =/

Here's another one I used to see so often in stoners cars that is a dead giveaway to being a smoker, the alligator clip/roach clip with something like a feather or beads hanging from it, stoners had always clipped those onto the rear view mirror in their cars. I never could understand advertising your smoke of choice that way.......

again not wanting to sound like your dad but always buckle up. In the last few years many states have started to allow cops to make a traffic stop on unbuckled riders, in the past it was an offense they could NOT pull you over for, but now that has changed.

How about the obvious? no speeding, especially in school zones, no California stops (rolling slowly through a stop sign) while carrying weed. When we're stoned we often let out guard down unless you happen to be that type of 'paranoid' driver, and if you are make sure you're driving faster than 15mph in a 40mph zone, lol.

Meh, I don't feel like I have effectively been stifled because I can't express myself on the back of my car with a sticker anyway. My car is just meant to get me from point a to point b.

In response to act polite, I find that it is better to not act overly polite.
I have been pulled over probably 20 times in my life, and have only recieved a ticket 1 time and that was a legit speeding ticket. I always give the cops a semi-hard time, telling them whats up without being a jerk is the way to go about it in my opinion. If you answer them with a firm yes or no, not no sir yes sir. Don't have dodgey eyes, when he asks a tough question look him in the eye and lie your little ass off. But like everyone said if it stinks in there your done, but if it don't smell and you don't act too nice or too paranoid, your probably golden. Cops have better things to do than search cars that they don't have a strong gut feeling about. put some reasonable doubt into their head by being normal.

Nah. It's deeper than that. Ya can't even express yourself through clothing, through hairstyles, through expressions on your car, anything. You essentially have to blend in unless you want to be profiled. That's always bugged me.

Yeah I see what you're saying it sucks having to worry about the police who are paid to serve & protect but they don't even do that they just look for new ways to arrest us.

I see someone knows how to play the game of cat & mouse. I do this all the time when I have to avoid trouble whether with the law or just regular folk.

Does anyone have an answer to my question?.

really valuable information. i always think about that when this topic comes up but i never can remember where i read it. i wasn't sure it was true and didn't want to spread anything false. you think u can pull up some websites about that? maybe i'll search on it later.

None of the links on that page mention how much MJ he was carrying, only that it was 256K worth. But this site:
http://www.reason.com/news/show/35977.html
said he was carrying 282 pounds of marijuana.
Ouch! So first rule for all you kiddies: don't carry hundreds of pounds of marijuana in your car. Because then you'll have a heck of a time arguing it was for personal use... :joint:
He got 12 years. With good time, he'll be out in less than 6...

I agree I never say "yes, sir" or "no, sir" to a cop but I don't mouth off to them either. Just like you say cops are no better than us so I simply show them the respect I demand and nothing more. A stern and respectful "yes" or "no" does the job like you say. Being overly nice and the cop can tell you're up to something.

Plus the only person I have ever called 'sir' is my father and he is the only person I respect enough to call him that.
