First of all this thread DOES NOT ENDORSE the transport of pounds, kilos, or any freshly harvested plants. If any one of our members has excellent knowledge on moving pound/kilo quantities feel free to include some tactics in this thread.......

I've been smoking weed since '69 & driving since '71, quite often.... aheemmm MOST often with weed in the car. I'm going to assume that most of the younger readers of this thread or in these forums drives around with their weed too, everything from joints/blunts to pipes/bongs and weed weights up to an 1/8th in our/their regular travels These days I avoid taking weed into my car as I don't like the risks involved & I usually prefer to get stoned at home.

So here are some/most of my pointers in 'Drivin' Dirty' Any other members that can add good lucid advice to this thread please feel free to do so.

The Car & What Cops Look For: Cops are trained in 'profiling' certain peoples which accounts for more than 50% of their traffic stops, if You've been stopped by a cop who profiled you you'll likely get that ticket and more! As it was a profiling stop the officer will want to look further into your car and you yourself. The condition/looks of the car has a lot to do with getting stopped or not. If you drive a shitty rust bucket that is beyond help then stop reading here while you go buy yourself a new ride, we'll wait right here for ya. The car you drive must meet certain standards to be road worthy, if not they are ticketable offenses & the cop has you in his grips while he writes you up. Buy a decent car w/in your budget or use a friends car (if you must transport some weed) if your is too rough looking.

COPS are looking for these easy violations, headlights or taillights burned out, plastic light lenses broken allowing the glaring white light to escape the lense area. Missing or unmatched hubcaps, Broken windows especially windshield, expired license plates/tags, bumpers held onto the car by twine or wire, and just rusty/dirty cars in general.

Some easy fixes for most issues above: Find out what bulbs your car uses for signal lamps, stop lamps, license plate lamp etc... appx 4 to 6 bulbs costing less than $20 as they're small and cheap. Take the time to install them and feel good for a yr or two that they'll be lit as normally would. Buy two new headlight bulbs ($20-40 for the pair) and install them too. A HUGE number of stops every single night is the one eyed car driving past the cop.

OK, you forgot the headlight & your being stopped by the cops....... once parked safely on the shoulder don't be moving around, sit still as he approaches and keep both hands on the wheel (cops feel safest that way, really) and the better he feels about you right off the get go might determine the outcome of the next 5-10 minutes you'll be chatting. He/She will ask for your license, registration, insurance, etc....... and while you're gettting these things together the cop will be looking in and at your car to make a decision as to whether or not you might be 'search worthy.'

Be polite and speak clearly to them while making good eye contact, this they consider to be a person telling the truth. The interior should be clean w/o any candy wrappers and MickeyD/BK bags strewn about the floor and seats. Have ZERO old beer cans, wine/whiskey bottles in there either, no old mail or newspapers. All of your cars paper work should be good to go & dated currently. When we smoke joints they leave very small and conspicuous ashes behind, cops KNOW those ashes, clean that ashtray daily if it's used for weed at all. There's a big difference in the way cigarette ashes or weed ashes look.

The $20(indicator lights) or $200 (new windshield) that you invest in your car might save you thou$and$ in fines, court costs, and maybe even jail time if you don't get popped for the weed in your car. That plus you're making your car safer to drive on any street which is best for you.
Final thoughts: Once you got the overall car in primo condition follow through by matching the hub caps, keeping it washed and clean looking. If you drive around stoned and carrying weed daily I'll go one step farther by suggesting that you to remove the 'Dead Head', 'Harley', & 'Gas Grass or Ass Nobody Rides for Free' stickers too.......

As soon as we hit the streets we put ourselves in harms way because the cops have SOOOOOOO many options for stopping us. Fuck, I can sit and stone in my house in the nude for a week while belting out rock songs sung horribly out of key & I can promise you I'll not see a cop & not run any risks.
But my bros and sisters, the roads belong to the law & they are some slick mofos for finding the goods.

I'm a bit tired now & have to nap. I'll add more later or maybe some of you will fill in the slots I've left open.......

nice read dood.
eye contact is VERY important imo.
try not to be jumpy and keep your voice very montone.
most importantly, dont look nervous!!!
think in your head like your not doing anything wrong to begin with.
remember, cops are human, just like you.
if you can lie w/ a str8 face to most people, cops should be no different.

How can this be seen not to endorse the matter when you are specifically detailing every step along the way in order to not be caught when doing the matter?

Seems a little...incredulous? I dunno.

If you had posted something like 'what do to when pulled over' without alluding to carrying weed in the car, or weight in the car...I'd view it a lil differntly.

That being said, if you don't give em eye contact, they are suspicious of ya. Good info in there, original poster. :rasta:

Another addition; cops know you're lying if you make contact with your head. For example scratching/touching the back of your head, adjusting glasses, scratching nose etc. So, no head contact at all!

Don't look like a burnt out hippie.

I know, I know... I liked my long hair as much as the next person but a fresh look has kept me from getting profiled by the police numerous times.

Hey slick, I said that I don't endorse driving around with large quantities & I'll repeat that for you as I guess you missed it the first time.......

LGTD, don't drive around with large quantities of weed. Smaller amounts can be hidden in socks, crotched, anywhere out of the cops sight is fine as long as the rest of your car & paper work checks out. An 1/8th is what I mentioned as an acceptable (imo) weight to have in the car.

This thread was put up by me in hopes of helping maybe even one member here to avoid arrest by reminding them what cops specifically look for, nothing more, nothing less.

I wont go into details - but this alone (broken windshield) is what got me pulled over in AZ and now have 2 felony counts. Keep it safe and fix stuff on your vehicle ASAP!

I would hate to know ANYONE else went through what I did over something as simple as a broken windshield!

good point. any nervous activity by the driver will get the cops thinking "search the car." Perhaps by leaving your hands on the steering wheel you'd avoid giving off those signals.

right you are, but I didn't want to sound like anyones dad grousing about long hair etc....... appearances one way or the other might determine the outcome of a traffic stop.

Another point or detail to make is being polite goes a VERY long way with anyone in authority. I was in court quite a bit in my younger years and saw the judges disdain for anyone standing in front of them with their hands in their pockets, slouched, mumbling crap like "yeah" instead of "yes your honor" etc.......

that's one thing i've learned the hard way is NEVER EVER give a cop an easy excuse to pull you over. EVER. do not have any lights out, wear your seatbelt, complete stop at signs, yeild properly, fix your windshield and muffler. wear sunglasses during the day. :D

do not joyride over dirt roads twice in one night. (game wardens might think you're shining deer), if you joyride dirt roads take another road home! don't go back the way you came. don't park to smoke on public land. they know these spots, and they are watching most likely...

-i'm just thinking back on the time i was caught smoking in bum fuck at a creek by too spying game wardens. they approached us after we smoked two bowls and it was the craziest shit ever. they tooled with us for a minute and finally admitted they watched us smoke the mj from the woods. funny thing here is they only confiscated our stuff and made us wait 30 minutes. i was still sooooo high when they let us drive off...

-then a year or two later i get caught on a dirt road for riding the same path twice, warden thought i was shining deer. unfortunely i was underage with open container and i didn't know what to do and gave them content to search...i was busted that night after a weak attempt to hide it. (lulz, he probably watched me from his vehicle.)

-numerous friends park in wildlife public areas and have been approached and cited. this is the worst way to get caught, a sitting duck.

last but not least, know your rights. the cops are asking you if they can search because they don't have enough probable cause yet...don't give it to them! stand your ground. and be very respectful.

I have to admit, I used to get quite an adrenaline rush driving weed and hash in moderate quantities back in the seventies, but I am glad I do not have to do it these days. Over the past couple years I have read about large weed busts in my area, just from the very simplest driving infractions. Folks who were put away for decades, because they could not drive, or were not paying attention to the gig. Now I do not even have a joint in my vehicle, it is a damn shame what the world has come to, time for a change.

I fell asleep and drove off an embankment into a field, with a couple lbs behind my seat, had a nice chat with the cop who drove me to the tow company, he was a decent older guy. And a search or problem never came up because I acted like a decent kid myself. 30 years ago this year, hehe.

when I drive around I like to have no more than a 1/2 with me...that way I can stick it safely inside the door to my gas tank... makes me feel safer that way..they never check there.

if I drive with more than that I make sure not to get high or drunk of buzzed or anything...that can all be saved for when you get home...in the mean time you just need to make it there... BE SAFE

Right on.

On top of that I would always make sure my tags and registration are up to date and my insurance is always paid for on time. Its amazing how many people are pulled over and searched just because they neglected to get that done.

On top of that there is such as thing as a profile car. My father who isn't smoker or a user of anything drives an older profile car and has been pulled 10 times and given no tickets or violations. They just wanted to check him out. So I believe its important to watch out what you drive in.

Great advice.

To which I would add, check your tyres, wash the car and get it serviced .... punctures and breakdowns will get you "assistance" from our friends in blue you may not wish for.

Hiding things in the dashboard works pretty well, you can Araldite some velcro waaay up there and know your stash [with matching velcro patch] will stay there.

Citrus Magic aerosols work brilliantly, use them, carry them, tokers can easily miss stinky smells they are used to......

Barrier Bags are utterly essential for anything more than a few G's. If you are really clever, you can print up some bull "Label" for them and often pass them off as a legitimate product.... e.g.. Fishing bait [if you have some rods etc.] or animal feed.

They'll pull you over for having unmatched hubcaps? That's a bit of stretch, because I don't see how that's a safety violation. If a cop said to me the reason he pulled me over is because my hubcaps are missing or are mismatched, I'd be nonplussed.
You forgot the most important thing when you're pulled over: NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER NEVER EVER give them PERMISSION to search your car or your person.
Because, as we all know, if they ASK for permission, it's because they don't have PROBABLE CAUSE to search you. But if they ASK for it and you GIVE it to them, then they can search your car or your person and, well, if you have stuff, it's go to JAIL, go directly to jail, do not pass GO, do not collect $200...
Now, when you VERY POLITELY refuse, they'll probably turn the screws on you, saying: "well, if you have nothing to hide, you'll let me search" or "I can call a drug dog in and if I find something, I'm taking you to jail, but if you just tell me what you have now, I'll let you go".
HERE'S THE THING: they often PROMISE to let you go, and then when they find it they'll still ARREST your ass. Happened to a friend of mine, probably happened to people on this board as well...
Also, there's US Supreme Court case from 2005 that says that the police CANNOT DETAIN YOU ANY LONGER THAN NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THE PURPOSE OF THE ORIGINAL TRAFFIC STOP. So when they say they'll get a drug dog in, they legally cannot DETAIN you until the dog comes unless the K9 unit can come within the time required to conduct the traffic stop.
IN ENGLISH, that means that if it takes 15 minutes to run your license and issue you a warning or a ticket, then that K9 unit has to come within those 15 minutes. Otherwise, they have to LET YOU GO.
THIS IS IMPORTANT, because most police departments have very few K9 units, and small departments won't have one at all, although they can probably request K9 assistance from a bigger agency, like the county sheriff or state police. That means, chances are, the nearest K9 unit is an HOUR away or more, if they EVEN HAVE ACCESS TO ONE AT ALL.
Of course, if he's crafty, the cop will tell you: "there's one five minutes away", he might even CALL IT ON HIS RADIO RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU, all the while shaking his head and saying you're making a big mistake, he's gonna lock you up once that dog comes in, etc, the state will take your kids from you once you're arrested, etc etc, ANYTHING TO MAKE YOU GIVE IN AND GIVE HIM CONSENT.
But THE ONLY THING YOU NEED TO KNOW is that once you give him permission, it's OVER FOR YOU ANYWAY, so stick to your guns and stand your ground.
Be POLITE AND NONSUSPICIOUS. Say as little as possible: the only thing you need to say is "No offense, officer, but I don't give permission to search my personal property" and "Can I go now, are we done here?". Everything that comes out of your mouth, other than telling him your name when he asks you what your name is, should be a variation of those two statements.
Which isn't to say that he can't detain you for an hour by the side of the road until the dog finally comes, then the dog does the old scratch and sniff, they find it, he slaps the cuffs on, etc. But if your lawyer is worth his salt, he or she has a good chance of getting that suppressed. That doesn't mean the cops won't lie on the stand and say you were only detained for twenty minutes or so or better yet "i have no recollection of how long it took for the K9 to get there", but there is usually some evidence of how long you were detained (police radio logs, etc).

But to be even smarter and avoid the above situation entirely, you need to follow these additional rules:
1. Avoid carrying weed on your person or in your car unless it's necessary.
2. If you do carry, try not to carry that much. Try to carry only as much as you're going to smoke that night, so that when you're driving home you have nothing on you.
3. If you do have to carry a large amount, don't do it while stoned. Cops can tell if you look and act stoned, unless you're able to play it off real well, but still...
4. Never EVER smoke in the car. As soon as a cop comes up to your window and smells it, he's got probable cause and can search you EVEN WITHOUT YOUR CONSENT. They're trained in what burnt weed smells like, also probably quite a few tried it back in their younger days, so if he can say he smelled it, you're done for.
5. Never drive while your license is suspended or while you have any active arrest warrants out for either: either one gives a cop a reason to arrest you and the right to subsequently search your vehicle.

That's it, rant over...

really valuable information. i always think about that when this topic comes up but i never can remember where i read it. i wasn't sure it was true and didn't want to spread anything false. you think u can pull up some websites about that? maybe i'll search on it later.

Simply put don't break the law while driving, have a valid license and insurance. be VERY polite.

And the number one rule is NEVER NEVER consent to a search!!

I watch COPS(tv show, not the people) all the time and people almost always consent to a search and they have POUNDS of drugs just sitting somewhere easy to find. Cops will find the drugs! don't think they won't check under your seat!!!

What about hash?.

Being that it's easy to hide, it's a good option to have instead of an 1/8 of weed considering an 1/8 of good hash is equivalent to having around a 1/2 ounce of weed but if it's found will you get a hefty charge such as manufacturing an illegal substance since it isn't raw weed?.

You're right bro, I could've been clearer on that point.
point being that the car that looks like shit (ie missing/unmatched hubcaps, rust bucket etc...) is perhaps a tip off to them that you could be a perp in their eyes. You're correct, there is no violation for missing or unmatched wheel covers, but if the car looks bad they tend to have more interest in you. same as my mentioning that keeping the interior clean is better than looking like a pig sty, you look less suspect, of course he'd already have to have you pulled over for a violation (legit or not) to notice a dirty interior.

I wrote this thread @ 10:43am after a night of zero sleep, I was wasted from exhaustion myself & had a hard time making sense to even myself yesterday morning.

Thnx for bringing up that point for clarification bro.......
