i use 4 or is it 2, think it is 4 and it has a lot of moss and perlite. very light medium. i am using 50 to 75% ffof and blood and bone meal and lime with it.
i have also amended my outdoor soil with it. wish it did not come in the giant bale tho, as I have a lifetime supply. I will use it up tho.

Coolies :D

I'm just using GH MaxiBloom... trying to figure the best pH to set stuff at. Everything looks good for now, but they just made the transition from under 55w PL-L lamps. Heh
We'll see how they look in 5 more days.

2 African Haze (Original Haze X Bushmans) The mum and a clone
3 Princess Diesel F2's (unsexed)
1 Sweet Diesel (SweetTooth #3 X Princess Diesel)
1 Satori

Only added amendments are some DE for gnat/bug control.

p.s. The filter I used to compress the photos SUCKS big-time. LOL

Hey, I just bought my 1st bale 'bout a week ago, shiftin' my ass outta coco!

I see there's Dolomitic Lime in the mix, and being paranoid of high Ph, I did an overnight soak of some SS#4 in RO water. I did a few samples and got readings from 6.3 to 6.8.

I added less than reccommended amounts of additional lime, in fact just about a tsp. per gal. Charged it up with some dry mix of meals (feather, blood, bone, kelp, alfalfa), and a sprinkle of MycoMadness. I also ammend the mix with 20% Perlite, 20% EWC.

I repotted a few weak plants out of coco, and in to the ammended Sunshine Mix without any incubation period. A few days and we're seeing improvements.

There's certainly a crapload ina bale. I've mixed up a few 35gal trashcansfull of ammended Mix and seem to have plenty to go!

Brewing ACTeas for feeding, last batch was 1050ec, 670tds, 6.3ph. Then I cut it 50/50 with bubbled tap 265tds, add 7mil per of Hygrozyme and 5mil per of Calmag.

The link in my Sig, is showing my conversion from coco based OBBT's, to SunShine#4 base. Not trying to hijack, just wanna share.

Respect,

Sunshine #4 and ProMix BX or HP are basically all the same product.

Sphagnum peat moss is the main ingredient. There is no nutes in the medium.

I like ProMix HP. A 3.8 cu/ft bale (compressed) is 40 bucks. That will fill 9 five gallon buckets. Sweeeeet!

If your using #4 solely for inside growing then no amendments are needed with maxi series.
ph balance with the maxi series is pretty stable. just check your run off now and again to make sure it is between 6.2 and 7.5, 6.8 being your target. your ppm should stay consistent at 7-750 and no flushing is needed till the end of flower.
the maxi series has everything in it to keep your plants green and mean. you may want to consider some big bud and kool bllom as additives/boosters after 30 days flower.
worse thing you can do is over water... other than that they should be on auto pilot.
good luck!

Hi all, I am unable to find someone with a definitive answer on what to pH my water to with this medium.

I have pre-mixed EWC and Gaia Green 4-4-4 at 2-3 tbsp/gallon of media into it already, and it has been cooking for over a month

Thank you so much for any help on this

I use Sunshine Mix #4 Advanced Organic mixed 50:50 with BX Pro-Mix and lots of organic amendments added.

I mix my medium initially at (preferably) ph 6.1 to 6.4. Not that I haven't caused mistakes with that over time.

I add a fair amount of volcanic pumice instead of Perlite when I grow now, both to have the aeration properties last much longer (due to Perlite breaking down so easily) and to get rid of the aluminum content in the Perlite.

Technically speaking, with either SM#4 or BX Pro-Mix, we're talking about soilless mixes, not soil, per se'.

Hi moose eater, thank you for getting back to me! I am curious after the medium is mixed though and water is the primary input until re-amending a month later - what would I be pH'ing my water to? Not the medium - but what pH do I water at from this point on once the plant is growing?

I cannot use it straight from the tap without pH'ing - where I'm from the alkalinity is just too far gone, even for living soil, I've spoke to Tad Hussey about this personally and he's been very helpful but obviously Sunshine Mix #4 is not his product and a cheap alternative I grabbed for $3 bucks a bag on clearance at Canadian Tire

THANKS AGAIN!

I lower the ph of my H2O to the same as the soilless mix I started with. About 6.1 to 6.4. Figure that rainwater is often lower than that; perhaps a 5.5 or lower, even.
