hey all. don't mean this to be a nirvana bashing thread in any way. i've experienced many nirvana strains and for the price have been VERY satisfied. i'm just curious as to whether or not anyone else had a similar experience with the strain ICE

i ordered 20 of nirvana's ice several months ago. started all 20. was blown away and ecstatic when all 20 popped within 24 hours. best germ rate i've ever had. they all took off like crazy. took clones from them all several weeks ago and started the originals to sexing.

the bad news? out of TWENTY healthy, fast growing beautiful seeds, i got TWO females!!!! worst sex ratio i've EVER had. none of my experiences with nirvana even came close to this, and i'm not so stupid as to blame the bad luck on the breeder. just curious as to if anyone else had a similar experience with Nirvana Ice? i notice it's no longer listed on the website at seed boutique and wondered if anyone else had this experience. i've grown out their K-2, NLxBB before and had a higher than 50/50 female : male ratio, perhaps this time it was just the green godesses yin and yang. lol. has anyone had experience with growing the ice to maturity? with only two females, i hesitate to judge the strain on what my two do as perhaps with the way my luck is running, they aren't the best females by which to judge. the strain.

.......with M/F seeds.......you could end up with any combination of males and females......just the luck of the draw I'm afraid..........someone else is probably out there right now with 18 females and 2 males from 20 beans.......

....best to get the Female or Feminised varieties if you want all girls....

yeah lol. like i said, i've always had good luck with male/female ratio.... it was bound to turn out bad at least once lol.

i will say this, they sure did blow up fast, i couldn't believe the vigor they showed. and 20/20 popping their shells in 24 hours from first getting wet is the best i've EVER had with seeds lol.

i hope you dont think i'm complaining, more looking for someone to share experiences on the ice pheno's so i know if one of the two fem's i have are the best the strain will offer.

hey gypsy... are you gonna be getting any of reefermans hashplant?

just chopped my ice plant tonight
i got a pack of 10, but only started two, both females
one was a runt, the other took off, plan to get atleast 5 ounces off her with just a little lst...the runt i pulled also, and threw it in with the trim...

overall, i'm happy with the ice, it cloned easy...did take just over 70 days though, but i blame that on my light being too high...

I am growing ICE right now and this is a wierd plant. Im not sure of the indica/sativa ratio but i have gotten a 100% sativa pheno. I hate to say it but im that person that got 18 females and i have two beans left over :pimp3: I vegged them for just under a month doing DWC and hten threw them into flower with a 400w HPS. today is day 50 and they look no where near to being done! both have stretched to 5 feet tall and i think that they have finally stopped. one is about a month away from being done and the other, well im going to have to play it by ear. cant wait for this to be done. Well theres my experience. Thanks Gypsy.

I ran my Ice for almost 90 days, and still felt they could go another week. Good smoke though, nice yielder too.

DirtySouth, what method did you grow yours in? what kind of yield did you have on it? sounds like i have the same pheno you had, so im just curious as to what i can be shooting for. is 3 zips dry per plant asking to much on a 5 foot tall plant? she has 4 main tops as well. the other has only two tops but she is 5 feet tall as well. what would be a good curing time for this girl? thanks

are you serious? 3 ounces off a 5 foot tall plant? a 5 foot tall plant with a 400watt hps? you do know a 400 watt light doesnt penetrate usefull for more than 2-3 ftish?

i urge you guys to look up Scrog and Sog with the 400 watters, you'll get a heck of a lot more than 3 z's.

ya i just attempted my first SCROG in my veg room with two mazar fems. i had no idea that ICE would reach this size so i did not even think to SCROG her. One question is i just put the screen overtop the cannopy of my mazar fems. is this all i need to do to promote the side branching or is there some other training i need to do first? so by the way you answered my question im guessing 3 zips is to much to ask for huh? o well either way im excited for harvest time

stay safe

3 oz's froma 400 watt light is not much at all. a well dialed in grow/scrog with a 400 can yield 1/2-3/4 of a lb. i know several stealth cab growers getting 4 z's from a 150 watt light by good scrogging.

too many people really have no real concept of what a scrog is. it is NOT just putting a screen over the top of the plants. a real scrog is having a rigid or tight screen, and each time a shoot grows up and out of the screen, you bend it over and tie it down to an empty, adjacent square. as the side growth also starts growing up and out of the screen, you bend and tie this over as well. do this until 1/3-1/2 of the screen is full, then start flowering. keep tying down for the next week or so, keep your light as close to the plants as you can without burning. only do with female clones or you run the risk of having a screen full of male.

there are plenty of threads out there with true scrog techniques. just topping and putting a screen over it does nothing but helps hold the plant up. don't let the fact that someone "says" their "scrogging" convince you that they are. a true scrog will look like a mostly flat canopy of colas, much like a SOG

dont get me wrong. there is nothing wrong with 3 z's from a 400. you can just do a lot better with practice and technique. under no circumstance that i can think of should you have a 5 foot tall plant under a 400 watt light. unless you have like quite a few of them (lights) lol.

sorry kind of went off topic, hope this helps :)

heres an example. pay close attention to the pics Swerve posted a few posts down. this is what a real scrog will do under a 250 watt HPS. a 400 can do even more.

don't feel bad, growing is a learning curve. i seriously doubt there is such a thing as a natural green thumb. training especially recquires lots of experience.

also shibby dobbins has a great pic of an early vegging scrog plant on page two of that thread with the black screen. notice the plant is NEVER allowed to get higher than an inch or so off the screen before it gets tied back down. if you put your screen say 8 inches over your medium, the plant height shouldn't exceed 10 inches under ANY circumstances until 1-2 weeks after you flip it to 12/12.

far too many people throw a screen over their plants and say "look at my scrog" and it really screws up a lot of new growers that could benefit by TRUE scrogging.

sorry for the rant, just a great way to maximize grams/wattage/space and i'd like to see more people learn the right way to scrog :)

sorry ok, i haven't scrogged in years and don't have any pics. i did do an almost scrog over the summer, kept training the plant over to keep it under a set heigth while growing on my back porch, but it wasn't a true scrog and so wouldn't label it as such lol. i'm currently working on a tree setup so it may be a while till i return to scrog. check out the link i put above though for some great scrog pics.

Bruce, thank you for all the helpful criticism. i figured that just putting the screen wasnt all that had to happen. ya like i said i vegged these girls for a month as i do all of my plants, then throw them into flower, but this strain grew 4 feet during flower of 56 days! so i had no time to act. so youre saying its good to start during veg as not to stress her into a hermie like doing that during flower would, yes? thanks for the link, i have been wanting to try SCROG as i wanted to go into my attic with this gimick. Thanks for all the help man, growers helping growers is a beautiful thing. hopefully you have better luck with your next batch of seedlings.

yeah, didn't mean to hurt your feelings or anything. my first grow was 12 years ago and i knew jack about it, as a result my first harvest was like 2 ounces/400 watt lol. everyone has to start somewhere.

once your plants are fully into flowering you don't want to train them at all if you can help it. tying down during the first couple weeks of "stretch" is fine. if your plants keep growing vertically after two weeks of flowering, odds are you have some type of environmental problem.... small light leak.... lack of fresh air.... lights too far away from the plant.... too much N in your feeding.... any one of those can cause a plant to keep stretching past a normal two week time frame. normally the only thing that grows once their fully flowering should be bud. as for hydro, they'll always come close to trippling in size when you flower them, and with a 400 watt light a month is WAY to long to veg in hydro. you'll be wanting to keep them as small as possible, like start flowering no later than 12-14 inches IMO. you'll have alot better luck if you keep a couple mothers and use clones as well. out of curiosity, how many nodes do your 5 ft girls have?

anyway thanx for the input on ice :)
