I always 'used' to say, I never had weed that I couldn't function on.. 40+yrs of smoking.. well them cookies kicked my ass... n I've eaten edibles from med states b4... bad..bad trip...

I'm sure my edibles would kick ass compared to any med state, but never tried em so not dissing but we all use similar ingredients
The weed has kicked my ass a few times too, tho only in 30+yrs ;) I made butter couple night before last, 22grms bud to 200grms fresh Scottish butter, won't be too powerful but still only going to try half a cookie just to get a jist of it, I would love a cookie that just needed a bite from :) I'd still be able to function just not in public or very business like :biggrin: but if had things needed doing I'd have a milder cookie for that day or 2

If 1 cookie did ever happen to be too strong (& i didn't want it to be) I imagine i would use that cookie for something like a cheesecake base with a normal cookie to dilute it.

Edit. I must agree with others recommending a crock-pot, so much easier. Now just need to pick up one of them tattie ricer things :)

Interesting thread......I liked what I saw so I figured I'd try making a batch today. I doubled the ingredients, and used straight left over bud from previous crops- a mix of sativas and indicas (but "B" grade I'm guessing). It's been cooking on low for 9.5 hours as of now and still NO black coloring. Maybe a double batch has to cook longer????

I'll also have an interesting story that happened MANY, MANY years ago- maybe 1990. I made a batch of brownies out of some Sensi's N.L.- incredibly potent stuff, much better then most of todays stuff. Just cooked the pot in the brownies. They were so strong, I gave them away to a friend, who put them in his freezer individually wrapped in foil. A few weeks later he had to leave town for a music gig and had a buddy watch his house and pets. His buddy found the brownies after a night of drinking and had 3 of them. He only woke up to pee occasionally (and crawled to the toilet) but slept on the sofa for 2 1/2 days straight- not able to otherwise move/talk/focus his eyes.

We still laugh about those brownies but the story still holds water........be careful and go slow with cooked edibles.

You are not the first to 'eat it' on Brownies.

Keep in mind that one recipe makes about 50 2" cookies ( I use a Small ice cream dipper), and we tend to not cut the Brownies small enough to make 50 pieces????? LMAO

But yes, some days they are more effective than others...... same batch..... just a different day.

You are right. I used to smoke 2 packs a day, lungs are pretty iffy. I purchased a vaporizer, but haven't mastered it yet. Plus, it doesn't seem to be that much milder on the lungs than my bongs. So I don't smoke very much at all. I quit tobacco 6-7 years ago, but I'm in Denver Metro half the year (in winter), so I'm told the lungs still don't like me much.

Soooooo..... Just Eat the cookies!

My favorites so far are AK47 and Sour Diesel, for daytime use.
Bubblegum or White Russian, for sleepy time.

Those of you who have made 'weak' cookies. Congratulations,,,
You can always eat two!
My take on THC is. ALWAYS know how much you are taking, and further than that PLAN you day. So you know what frame of mind will be required during the day... or night.

Zach, take the 'prepared' butter you have left, and cut it with plain butter/ghee, maybe 50/50 that would cut the potency in half, eat quarter cookies but don't throw it away.:frown:

one bad trip.. 1/4 cookie...

you did make the butter STRONG. be proud, not scared.. sleep is good for you..

Unfortunately, I ended up chucking out the mix I made last night. After around 10 hours of cooking, I strained it and put it in the fridge. The next morning, it was still a liquid mess. There was a slight ring of green butter around the top of the container, probably less than a teaspoon. Frustrating, 2 wasted oz's.....still not sure what I did wrong.

But on the good side, I went back to my old double boiler method and made 2 sticks with an oz of my potent Critical Kush today. Cooked it for 3 hours and it came out deep green and has hardened nicely. I'm ready to make some cookies tomorrow, finally.

gambler... were you high when you made it? you did put the butter in, didn't you?:biggrin:

where TF did that butter go? it still has to be in the remains, no?
maybe try boiling it a little more and re squeeze.. that's weird.

Well........no, I haven't smoked for 5 days so I wasn't high. I had written everything down and am sure I did everything correctly. No, I did not add soy lethicin or anything else other than what the recipe called for. I did double the recipe though, 2 sticks of butter (although it was salted), 2 OZ of pretty god smoke, maybe too much water, and cinnamon. I saw the "butter fat" floating on top of the water when I pulled it out of the fridge the next morning. I regret disposing of it now cause I'm sure I could have reduced it more by cooking it another 8 hours. It was dark green in color and I could see ALOT of resin sitting at the bottom of the container when it was poured out. And remember, there WAS a slight ring on butter at the top all the way around the container- very thin though.

So I made 24 triple chocolate cookies tonight after dinner. 1 egg, 1 stick of Critical Kush butter (116 grams), and the boxed cookie mix. I ate 1/2 of one exactly 1 hour ago. Buzz is coming on nicely, building in strength for sure- no panic yet......LOL

10 minutes later..........I'm very high.....

OK, so to summarize....

I took 1/2 a cookie at 7:45PM and by 8:50PM, I could feel it coming on nicely. By 9:15PM, I was incredibly high, probably too high and more high than I wanted to be. No panic attacks but way higher than one can get by just smoking. In the next few hours, I fell asleep twice for a few minutes while trying to watch TV. At 11PM, after waking up from the second nap, I felt much better and the high was more like a "smoking" functional high. Then the muchies started......LOL I was on an eating storm, and had 4 different snacks in the next 1/2 hour. I went to sleep at 3AM but don't really remember much after midnight. I woke up around 10AM, still quite high until I ate breakfast and took a nice long shower....these cookies will be distributed with a stern warning!

This process shows me it doesn't make too much difference HOW you make your butter. The quality of the bud material and how concentrated the resin is in the butter is as important as anything else. My double boiler method does leave some "green" taste in the butter, but not bad at all.

Lastly, next time I'll be eating 1/4 of a cookie and see if I can better manage the dosage. Maybe eating on a full stomach or taking bites over a period of time will level out the buzz better. Potent med's, for sure......

I gave my last cookie away last week (kept in the freezer), and in the baggie were a few crumbs... I said what the fuk, i'll eat em... well in an hr, I was really high... not like when I ate a full cookie, and thought I saw god, but def higher then smoking...

as I still have about 45grams of butter left, I 'll make about a cookie per gram.... instead of the 4grams per cookie I made last time... which was fukin stupid by the baker...ME....

Mo, I do mine in a crock pot set on low. When I check on it & stir it's simmering. Plus I "cook" mine twice. 6 hours each time. That gets more of the funky taste out. Hope this helps.

ps you can pick up cheap crock pots at most any second hand store. That's what I did when wife said "not in my crock-pot"...;)

Yep, you want it at a low boil for the full duration.

In my old crock pot (a beat up 1970s special which was always a bit of a fire concern) I had to run it on low to reach a light boil. I ran it on high once and it boiled over which made a hell of a mess on my counter tops. :laughing:

After that debacle, I picked up a new crock pot at Costco which is very safe and doesn't make me worry about leaving it unattended. This crock pot has much more even heat distribution (and it doesn't boil over like my last one!). I have been using that unit on high since the day I bought it with no issue.

Yeah, the straining / pressing part is a bit of a pain. I've found that the metal screen coupled with a large metal spoon produces the best press for those who don't want to spring for a potato ricer or a dedicated press like the pros use.

I've done the dry ice shaker method, its so easy its insulting to those of us who have spent hours doing traditional ice water methods. The key is to have a legit hash bag as a screen over the bucket when you shake it out (dont try to cheap out with cheese cloth, household screen material, etc). Also, when the stuff falling out of the bag turns even a *little* green, stop shaking. Its all plant matter from there.

Let me know how those cookies turn out (both ways).

i have bubble bags to use and i always stop well before it tints green. i like a light blond sift but ill shake a bit longer b/c and plant material will settle out as the butter solidifies at the top.

ill let ya know how it goes.
