I've found this critter and about 20 more inside my 4 bucket system..

in the water they seem like they are dead.. just sinking at the bottom and moving around with the current..

others are found on the sides of the bucket, they only wriggle a little bit.

i've got one out and done a macro shot with a loupe on the phone cameras lens to get a zooooommmedd photo.

what is this?

i dont know how big it is but it could be fungus gnat larva. they look like lil maggots.

That little guy was about 5mm long.... and probably the biggest of the lot..

not sure if i have seen anything flying around.. i dont think so.. but i only visit it every now and then since they are just seedlings and are slow at the moment.

what do i do to remove these fuckers? definatly not mosquito wrigglers as they dont move in the water like them..

Could have happened as these plants were removed from soil and planted in the dwc system.. only just got their first roots in the last few days

Yup, I agree with everyone here that said fungus gnat larvae is correct and the solution hazy has stated is the easiest way to fix it!

I flushed, cleaned scrubbed bleached rinsed and rinsed again

and refiled again.. also cleaned all the hydroton..

hopefully this will be ok? if i see flies buzzing around i'll do something about it..

and for now keep the soil out of my hydroponics :)
