I find my tea to have almost a musty smell more so than earthy, even after only 12 hours or so of brewing, that how yours is? makes my res have a wierd musty smell too..

*edit* blah i think my first colony was wack so i just ran some h202 through the system before any roots take hold.. nothing growing yet. After 2-3 days of the h202 evaporating going to add some more ewc tea and aquashield.. think a tablespoon per gallon of mollasses is too much unless you really have a ton of air cranking through there to stop the anaerobic activity from taking hold, my mix wasn't smelling very "earthy", gonna drop it down to a teaspoon and tap into my 70 liter pump

Everyone may perceive the smell different. To me it is earthy, could be taken for a musty type smell. As long as it does not stink. You will know stink. You should be okay. As long as you have a good source of air pumping through you shouldn't have any anaerobic activity. They do not like air (oxygen).

It can be in the beginning, but once you get your own routine down it will not seem like it anymore.

Yield is excellent in coco and easy to work with. Way better than soil and never any worries about slime or root rot. Always a viable alternative to hydro. I'm still playing with the hydro. Next is going to be a tray and lid with an aero manifold going on inside. Rez under tray. Think of it like a big EZ Cloner for flowering. Should be interesting. It's gonna be a while. I'm taking a little break.

I have seen something close to this and tried all kinds of stuff. I am not sure what the best option is but when I had the problem I used the OA Premium mix.

You can get it at most hydro stores or try this website.

Bummer rich, but i've completely converted to coco, ripped my last 4 buckets/chiller/ out today.. not looking back. Just cant figure out what has gone wrong but the plants would not grow in the buckets. Gone straight coco now and everything looks good, faster than soil but not quiet the explosive DWC that I grew to love. The best part was that me and my roomates first run was so ghetto, non circulating 8 buckets with one controller bucket, no lid for it(completely xposed to light), tap water with vinigar for ph down.. .. huge tree's and a bumper crop, now i got chillers, circulating.. etc.. crap everytime.

If anyone wants to buy a 1/10 hp current water chiller, let me know.

You will not be disappointed with the coco. Oh yeah!, DWC is the fastest I ever grew, too. Was my first system. Coco is good though and absolutely no worries about the slime. Do a search on Pico's manifold for a drip system for your coco. It will make things much easier instead of hand watering. Hook it up to a pump and cycle timer and you can walk away for days. Much luck growing.

I have 3 water chillers for sale too, lol.

Organics Alive and Vermi T, also, are good, but they cost a lot. Can get the same thing out of making your own EWC Tea and spicing it up with some water soluble powdered Plant Success Great White Mycorrhizae on the cheap.

dun ..dun..dun it strikes again

dun ..dun..dun it strikes again

well it has been a good month now that my most hated hydro virus has been over to visit and in my nicest girl at that, and w/ only 1 month left to finish also. good thing I am not in a RDWC and it just had taken 1 of my girls. Richy i swear u can't beat it into peoples heads enough about precautionary methods. I was looking around the forums about using molasses for a carbo. in the last month or so of flower well i used it for 1 night thats it just 1 day and it is back like it had never left before, now it's back w/ a vengance. I have a EWC tea brewing as I type It has been brewing since last night some time when i seen the what was happening to my best girl. I also picked up some (myco madness) from humboldt nutrients to arm my soldiers to the teeth ,But i feel that it is too late for my plant that has been exposed. I have a question for you about the physan I picked a bottle of that up too while i was at my shop getting the BB I have been skimming threw the thread again and i cant seem to locate the amount for running w/ your plants to clean the roots i need a ratio for per/gallon if u know that by chance. Thanks again for ur dedication to this on going battle over the slime it has truly helped many of us and I'm sure there will be many to come

I add 5-10 drops of Physan per 10gal or so. Go easy on it!

One of my mothers got slimed agained the other day. Turned out it was almost the same reason as yours. I did a top off and I used up the last tiny little bit of a beneficial bacteria bottle I had sitting around (Plantacillin). Next day, bam!, slime. Turns out this stuff I had sitting around has sugars in it. More organic fuel. I did my usual treatment of Physan overnight and a good root cleaning, res change with only chem nutes, and she's already looking better.

At this point Im totally abandoning adding ANYTHING to my DWCs other than straight bacteria, myco, and chem nutes. Like I said earlier in this thread, the slime is just waiting for you to add something you shouldn't have. And you're right, it does seem to be getting worse for some reason.

Amen to that brother!!! I put like 5 or so drops of it in a 5 gallon bucket w/ the plant and roots and i looked at it like 5 mins later an the roots are already almost clear of the crap but i know it's going to take longer than 5 mins to work lol but i hope my baby will come back about 50% of the leaves have already fallen off so I have already chalked it up as a lesson learned.

So since adding sugars adds to the slime what do u think the best thing to use for carbs for the last month or so of flower is? I'm pretty sure RR said he still uses AN's carbo load. I was using that before the molasses w/ no problems but after this last episode I'm kinda iffy about using anything at all anymore.

Nothing.

Carbo Load and enzymes are a big NO NO! Follow ItsGrowTime's advice above.

If you read about CarboLoad, it is what I use for making my EWC tea. I had it left over after learning long ago that it creates instant slime explosions.

Is there an up to date detailed process for making the EWC tea and using it both before and after slime presents itself?

I gleaned from a way back post 3 cups of EWC, 3-4 gallons of water, a glop of Molasses, and an airstone. Last night I started a new batch, just dumping the EWC uncontained on the bottom of the bucket. I should have some viable stuff for tonight.

I have some veg plants, that I almost nuked by using too much Physan in the aeroponic tub. I used 1/4 teaspoon in 15 gallons. The plants were wilted and bordering death the next day. DO NOT USE TOO MUCH PHYSAN OR USE BY INSTRUCTIONS ON BOTTLE FOR RESERVOIR USE !

I think i have them recovering now after 3 days of plain tap water flushing, but noticed last night that the slime was back.... off of tap water only. ??

I need a plan because i need to move these to a flower unit soon. Airstone in res ? UV light ? What to do ??? Rinse roots again ?

Also, if too much Molasses is in the tea mix, will that carry over and feed the tank skank ?

Thanks !

how much molasses did you use? just enough to feed the BB? or did u over do it to the point that it is now feeding the slime instead of the BB? Get yourself a mycorrhizal fungus to add to your tea,and like IGT was saying that it only really need organic matter of any source to feed off of that could be root matter in your rez or any kind of plant matter. Is this your first bout w/ the slime? I myself read the thread front to back after I was given the info i needed to combat it at first just to read up on my enemy for preventative measures later on cause it will be back.

When richy was sayn he used carbo load for teas what i think he meant was he had it left from prior use and used it to feed the BB in the tea. But from what I am getting at now that all it is doing is feeding the slime more so than the BB so try the mycrorrizal w/ your tea instead of the molasses plus your roots might have harbored some of the slime inside where the physan didn't get too I personally had to trim some roots to get it all hope this helps in your battle. :2cents:

chytil you could transplant it to coco and probably be ok.. i took some from soil with trouble, washed the roots off, put it in coco and it reacted positively pretty quickly

I think I would like to try coco but I just have too much Time and money involved atm to Just switch now I htink i need to get at least 1 succesful run before i try something new. Besides all the plants that have been affected were bag seed trials before i got into my known genetics that i have germing atm they consist of GHS GWS, nirvana's fem. bubblicious, and bogs bogglegum. So all of my mistakes on the bagseed grow i can learn from and not do again on my known genetics. I want to try all the different hydro ways of growing but 1 at a time but thanks for the thought.
