Strain that smells like Catholic Church on Christmas

That dead flowers and dank vase water smell...frankies, the piff, church, Uptown Haze...that's what you are looking for. SSH phenos have that smell as well and Neville's Haze. I personally would go digging in Mr Nice SSH seeds. Get a good 4 or 5 packs and start selecting down for that smell. :joint:

You definitely want to start with the Haze based hybrids. Of the ones that I've grown the SAGE, and Neville's haze were at the top. The SAGE would be my choice for indoor cultivation. Neither of the two packs of SSH that I grew had anything like that.

I also have a Sensi's Maple Leaf Indica that has a surprisingly "hazey" taste. It tastes enough like haze that two fellow growers thought is was a haze hybrid when they first tried it. It yields well, isn't very picky, and will floor you. When smoked it gives off a smell that i can describe as dark incense. Smells very similar to church to me.

Good luck with your search.

That great input especially reguarding MLI

Sensi seeds was the first catalog i drooled over but before my interest peaked an i became knowledgeable / in the know i ordered shiva shanti which was a big dissapointment but great learning experience .

Anyhow the MLI always had my eye considering its powerful effects an incense flavors also im a afghan/hashplant lover .

Sorry for goin abit off topiuc but my point is that this incense trait is also known to be in Indica / affie aswell ,just as you report in MLI .Soo the description is accurate from sensi as it list sandlewood to be found .

Im curious was this MLI of the old or recent seeds stock ?

I purchased the pack in '06. All the females shared a common flavor profile.

When I contacted Sensi about further info on the MLI, they stated that it consisted of several ( 3 iirc) pre-soviet afghanis. Whatever it is it's good.

I just read Sensi's description, and I would say that the 45-50 day they have is way too early. All of mine went 9-10 weeks and my keeper is 10. It is very tall for and indica with fairly large internodal spacing, not your typical short bushy 'ghani. The buds are also not as dense as a typical 'ghani, but she yields well due to her size. Huge stretch in the first 4 weeks of flower. She exudes a dark syrupy sweet scent with hints of citrus. I crossed my keeper MLI with SAGE, lets just say I have HIGH hopes. I'm also goingto cross her with a male THUNK that I have, should be interesting.

If I could grow outdoors it would be Neville's Haze. It is one of the most interesting varieties I have ever grown. The flavors are extraordinary, very strong almost meaty tasting with an unmistakeable spiced incense blast, and maybe a hint of pine in the background. The high had no ceiling whatsoever, the more you smoked the higher you got. Unfortunately indoors it is little more than a novelty as the one we had went 16 weeks and yielded very low. Outdoors however I'm sure they would be monsters and more able to fully express their full potential.

+1 for haze strains.

Last year I grew a HFH Hashplant, a polyhybrid with Amnesia Haze in it, outdoors. I harvested in October and cured it for 2 months. In December it had that tasty incense smell which filled the whole room when being burned. Everyone who smelled it was very curious about it. I wish I would have saved a cut from that pheno.

As of now its leaning towards Mr. Nice strains. The mango haze, super silver haze, and his Northern lights #5 x Haze. Not sure which one will be my first and given the price it will take a bit to save for them.

Tons of great responses, thanks to everyone for posting.

DinaFem Royal Haze

I said the same as this dude - the Royal Haze I grew had a very powerful aroma that came out in the jar and when set to flame ... I wouldn't have known it from the way it smelled in late flower which was more sour. If you are worried about money then try a couple of these - there are ways to get a single seed and you may be pleasantly surprised.

Edit - I forgot to mention that when I was trying to find more info on this strain that I came across some posts that suggested it was a S1 of a MNS SSH selection.

First, dont turn this into an anti religion/pro religion thread otherwise I will :spanky: ....

Anyhow, so if you have been to a catholic church on xmas they burn something that has a wicked aroma... There is a strain of Cannabis with this exact smell, does anyone know what it is?

Here is a list of stuff I have read on the internet that they may burn but I am not sure which smell I am trying to locate. I plan on locating all of these to smell and figure out which smell it is, however they aren't the easiest things to locate around me.

frankincense
myrrh (I think its this one)
sage (I dont think its this one)

:thank you:

Both of the Haze strains I just popped have been known to throw Frankincense phenos. Sandlewood, too. "The Cure" & "Neville's Skunk" by Mr Nice... 2 of Shanti's best kept secrets. I have a thread going here...

I found frankincense and think that it can be fairly easily recreated.

"Male" = a reversed Kali Mist with a lemon incense smell that was no where near frankincense. Seeds were from 2005 or so and this was a long flowering (100days) girl.

Female = Blue Hawaiian which had a blueberry muffin smell with rotting undertones

In bloom, the only smells were ginger and cherry chapstick - very low smell. Hung to dry for 5 days at ~65deg, trimmed the big fans only and jarred. They have been curing for 3 weeks now and I just went through an oz or so to trim it up some and catch the dry sift - that's when the smell really got me. Dead on frankincense.

To my nose, the smell of frankincense is a blend between a berry-like smell (without any sweetness) and sandalwood-like incense.

So, the general idea for recreating the smell is:

BB x a sativa(ish) strain that will let the blueberry muffin flavor shine through x an incense-y sativa with a lemon/sandalwood vibe (Kali Mist is one, but there are surely plenty others - I'd like to try a haze next).

I am a left coaster, so no experience with piff. I am interested to know:
1. What were the buds like? Airy? calyx size? Color?
2. what was the high like?
3. High duration?

:thank you:

You'll get a hand full of different descriptions for piff but some would consider the black haze "piff"

Buds depended on the grower an style..I use to get some ridiculously swollen calyx with her.. But she was dense as could be and put out on the real heavy side.. But you had to go about 100 days in flower.

The high.. Well it was HIIGH... She is not for the weak.. An will keep u getting higher for a few good hours :joint:

Dalilguy you got it right on the money what you want is that south fl black haze that use to make it to ny. I remember people up there would pay 20 bucks for a .7 people would bring up other hazes, but that is the uptown haze, piff, or frankies its all the same thing. That cut used to be held pretty tight within the cuban community. not sure if it still is, or not but their are plenty of stories about trading whole crops just to get your hands on it. But if you got it, it was straight up green gold in ny.

Serious seeds kalimist. I have a lot of seeds with this pheno in it. It's from some seeds bought in 2002.

It's not that difficult a smell to find as some would make out.
I have found it in a few MrNiceSeeds plants, especially Nevil's Haze and MangoNevils Haze.
I have also found it in some SE Asian, IndoChinese and Southern Indian genetics, though not from seedbanks. However, seedbank stuff like Kali Mist, Indian Mist and so on should also have it in some of their phenos.

It's a strong frankincense with a hint of sandalwood.

For the love of God don't go down that road with Bigherb in the chase for "The Frankie". Never have I seen a more consuming obsession on the canna boards.

LMAO!!!! Funny, Village Green! Great come back!! Although Catholic incense does have a distinct aroma. I think I'd rather smell camp fire smoke than religious incense. I always fanned it away from my face when he'd walk by and turn my head when throwing the Holy Water around.

Good luck finding it!!!:artist:

Hey Bobbles

The strains: Church, Blue Danube, Pre98 and Kali Mist smell similar to what you are describing.

I've asked around and the RC's usually burn frankincense or a blend of 2 parts frankincense to 1 part myrrh during christmas mass.

I was recommended two types of frankincense:

Somalian Frankincense

View Image

A rich golden brown tree resin imported from Somalia that has a very powerful and vivid earthy aroma. For centuries, this ancient natural resin was used as incense for the Divine Services throughout the Byzantine Empire and all of Christendom.

Ethiopian Frankincense

View Image

Pure and natural frankincense imported from Ethiopia with hints of lemon and evergreen. The base for all of our fine varieties.

I'm interested in what you discover so please post your findings!

Good Luck,

-BT :smokeit:

Betcha it's Kali Mist. Smells sort of piney. I put Frankincense oil in my canna arthritis salve as it's a natural anti-inflammatory. To me, it doesn't smell like the incense a priest flings...I could be wrong.

Maybe peruse the natural food stores where they have aroma therapy oils...maybe narrow it down.

I like the smell of peppermint schnapps at Christmas!:)
