Strain selection for outdoor 2012....

Awareness

Watch that Purple Maroc .. Seen too many grows last season where it molded up a good amount .. FYI
In my opinion PM is worst version of Maroc. More mold and later harvest, high is like Maroc but... not so heavy.

FS: Easy Sativa, Maroc
DP: Durban Poison, Purple #1
RQS: some auto, possible AK47 and Royal Haze
I am thinking about some esben strain with very good yield, any proposals in my profile please. :)

i also have the feminized seeds that i can put in my beds and get garunteed females..

wish i could do supp lighting but its not looking like an option right now due to possible neighbors...

Two things here, I would say watch for hermi's with the S1s. It can really F with your crop. Pollen travels a long way outdoor with wind.

Second, if you can't do supp lighting then I think you can still put seeds out in April if freezing temps are done. Correct me if I am wrong people, but if you start the seeds outside, or at least put them out after the rapid rooter stage, they will not flower. I have avoided growing monsters so I start in mid May, but this year I am going to throw some seeds out around April 1st, see what happens. Putting up hoop greenhouses help with an early start.

GEMiNi G. I heard that Purple Maroc its a resistant... but i will give attention for mold thank you ;)

Its said to be resistant .. But from the 5 outdoor grows Ive seen of it(just last season), it didnt yield well and if it rains during mid-late flower expect a 10-20% loss if not more .. Any some of them had to go till early October .. .. Not as fast a finish as discribed.

Be wary of the hype people .. Seed companies say a lot of stuff .. To make a buck .. .. Just cause it says "outdoor" doesnt mean anything cause sure any plant can be grown outdoors but how many will go to shit in a hurry if it rains or cold nights and humid days

Check the Outdoor strain guide on here set up by backcountry .. .. You will see lots of strains noted by companies to be good outdoor strains but grower reviews tell another story.

If you want a good Indica look into Sensi Seeds Maple-leaf Indica .. Or take a look at the outdoor strain guide

Too humid for Sativa's? Havent heard that before ;) .. Sativa's are native to hot and humid regions all over the world so I think they can take the humidity around the lakes

Veg N Out

Rarely see intersex issues out doors , if you do it is very genetic and that line should be scrapped. I have seen entire neighborhoods grow indoor and out door from S1 seed for many years with no problems producing as good or better herb as the plant they came off of. Do not count out feminized seeds and if you do have them at your disposal put some serious consideration in to them if the parent stock was of good breeding value.

Aslo depends how the S1s were made .. Naturally or forced

Seedlings and the great outdoors .. Get a 1L or 2L bottle (1/2gal milk jugs work nice with the bigger opening) for each seedling, fill it half way up with soil (make sure you have at least 5 drain holes at the lowest point (I use my fiskers to make the holes, push them all the way in up to the handle and twist), use a straw to drop the germed seedling down into the small hole in the soil, cover and Voila! Instant portable mini greenhouse .. Allows you to put them outside without much worry .. Close the tops off before sunrise if cold temps are making a come back

Seedlings will generally take 3-5 weeks to sex so putting them out in late April or early May will suffice to keep from flowering but watch them .. Pure Indica's or Indica dom hybrids should be put out closer to early/mid May just because they will flower earlier then pure Sativa's or Sativa dom hybrids just due to genetics (Most Sativa regions stay right around 12/12 year round with little variation where as the Indica's are from area's that daylight times swing seasonally)

Hope that helps a little

What a great idea with the 2l bottles. I am so doing this fairly early this year. You think no earlier than may huh? Great advice! One question, how do you get the seed out once established? You just cut all the plastic away with a razor knife?

Norther Lights x Big Bud, quick to flower and supposedly highly resistant to mold/pest
Critical + also quick to flower, decent to high yielding and really tasty flavorful smoke

Exactly. Just cut the dome off and transplant. It also helps if you have to start them outdoors .. .. Had to do that a few years ago so I taped the bottles together in groups of 6 and put them out in the woods and it kept birds from eating them and animals from up rooting them.

Yeah I say May just to be on the safe side cause if you get it out a few weeks earlier then that your chances of re-veg are greater and at that point in the summer is when they should be getting big and getting a good head start rather than wasting time and energy re-vegging.

IMO .. If your starting from seed the key is to get them out early enough so they get well rooted by late May so when you transplant them into the ground or bigger containers they will start to burst with the extra day light in June and July and be much faster to grow. If in ground it allows them to get their roots deeper because in my area sometimes from late July through August it wont rain so they have to get roots deep to hit the water table (4-8ft below soil surface at my grow locations)

This year I'm running two strains for sure, Special Kush and Dinafem's Blue Hash. The third strain spot is up for grabs between KC33 and Sweet Seeds' Green Poison.

I'm at ~40 N east coast.

Green Poison or KC33 would do well for you so it really comes down to whats more important .. Yield or flavor or potency and look into both strains attributes and see which 1 or the 2 have more of what you want.

interesting thing some of us learned about hermies....we run cherry pie alot its a staple in many peoples gardens. indoors she sometimes throws a nanner or two, usually without pollen...sometimes you get a bean or two but usually its a hollow empty nanner.

outdoors she has zero nanners and this was seen over multiple gardens hundreds of miles away from eachother....she actually grows much better outdoors, big colas, turns almost dark purple. grows well in non direct light too....
