please, do 1 good thg today, sign a petition to stop the MASSIVE DOG SLAUGHTER IN CHINA!!! they r beating dogs to death!!
we all knw they use dog fur in "faux" fur, in the lining of coats made in China, this is on a whole nother level...rabbies is a preventable disease, as we do in the US, all it takes is a simple, inexpensive shot, every 3 yrs. (& affects more than JUST dogs, still for some reason dogs r the main target), a much better solution than to brutally beat them to death!! IMHO.

China has many human deaths each year from rabies. And many people have died in the last few months. What is better, let people die each month from rabies or kill some dogs. I for one think your outrage should be directed at something a bit more important. Like 2500 americans dead in Iraq or 3400 iraqis killed last month. Not some dog half way across the world that you will never see. China will handle it as they seem fit, if you dont like their treatmet of ddogs, then dont go there and dont take your dog. Seriously we need to look at ourselves before we look at another country. Look at Arkansas, they kill dogs there and bury them in trenches if they arent adopted, no outrage there? Lets get out house in order before we go knocking on someone elses door.

Ok first off, i dont know where the fuck you shop, but i assure you that i dont own a coat of dog fur nor do I shop at stores that would sell dog fur.

Your cry tears and sign a petition. Yet in the USA 8.5 million dogs enter shelters each year and 4 million are put to death. Where is your outrage there? Were is the petition? Those dogs dont even have rabies and are killed , perfectly good dogs that arent spreading disease to humans. Yet you are going to going to bitch at China for killing dogs who have spread disease and caused death? Like i said, get your house in order before you go knock on anothers door.



As far as them eating dogs, yup they sure do! A friend of mine in the army was stationed in Korea and was able to have some and he enjoyed it. They also eat rats in China as well, but i dont see you trying to save rats. Alot of countries eat insects as well. Some consider cows as sacred and think us eating beef is disgusting as well as sacreligous. So your outrage over them eating dogs has about as much merit as indians signing a petition for USA to stop eating cows.

Animals Asia is totally appalled by the atrocities perpetrated towards wild animals and dogs and cats for their fur. Since 1986, the Animals Asia team have been investigating the horrific live animal markets of Southern China and focussing our resources primarily on ending dog and cat eating in China through our "Friends....or Food?" countrywide campaign. By raising the profile of companion animals as our friends and helpers through education and "hands on" programmes such as "Dr. Dog" and "Professor Paws", we are making significant inroads within China itself - empowering animal lovers there with a voice to speak out on behalf of dogs and cats and calling on the dog and cat consumption industry to end.

As one of the few groups in China publicly calling on these attrocities towards dogs and cats to end, we are circulating over 102,000 copies of our new film which features "Eddie", a dog we rescued from the cruel animal market in Guangzhou, to Government officials, the media, universities, animal welfare groups and various companion animal associations across the country.

With these same species being barbarically exploited within the fur industry, our media interviews and publicity are highlighting this issue too - again to reach the public in China (and indeed other countries in Asia such as Hong Kong) so that people are more informed as to the products they are potentially buying - and in order that they understand our message advising the avoidance of all fur. Please read about our March 2006 press conference and launch of initiatives in Hong Kong where we are highlighting this issue. In December 2005 we had a very productive meeting with the Chinese Embassy in London and are hopeful for significant progress in 2006 - the Chinese Year of the Dog.

In many ways, the cruel fur trade thrives because of the decision of the fashion conscious westerner to buy and wear fur. Heather Mills McCartney and other groups are raising this issue in a high profile way in the West and calling on people to reject fur as there is such a strong chance that it could originate from dogs and cats. We also appeal for people to turn away from ALL fur as the situation for other fur-bearing animals in Asia is just as cruel and barbaric - with rabbits and wild animals being skinned alive too. Animals Asia Founder Jill Robinson met with Heather Mills McCartney in London in December to discuss the situation more fully, and we sincerely hope that the EU will bring in a ban on dog and cat fur, so that western fashion designers will turn away from the use of fur and that the industry will swiftly be brought to an end.

We continue to share our information with the media and other concerned local and international groups. For many years we have investigated and documented the atrocities to wild, endangered and domestic species in the live animal markets in southern China. Earlier this year we were happy to advise both CNN and PETA of their location. Our investigations and research have shown that dogs and cats are being sold for their meat rather than fur in these markets - but of course the fur industry is rife as one travels further north into the country where there are bitterly cold winters.

In mid 2005 our investigations showed that due to the international exposure of these southern markets, there were less wild animals openly for sale. The sale of most wild animals was banned as a result of the outcry surrounding SARS and bird flu, and because the media and groups such as ours placed significant pressure through press releases and conferences calling on the Government to bring the trade to an end. However, despite the fact that less wild animals are seen in the current urban markets, clearly there remains an illegal black market, and undoubtedly an active trade in the suburbs too.

Live Animal Markets Today

Our investigations in late December 2005 show that there were very few dogs and cats are to be found in the Guangzhou markets - again due to pressure from the international community and as a result of our own pressure from within after our meetings with the Guangzhou government departments concerned.

However, we must continue to be on the alert - the fact is that these markets often move their location once they are exposed and we are already making enquiries as to where the trade will flourish next in southern China.

With international pressure, together with our ongoing investigations and educational work throughout China we believe that the situation for dogs and cats will one day improve. Today, there are over 150 million dog owners in China, and a huge groundswell of support for ending dog and cat eating once and for all. However, the acceptability of dog and cat eating is deeply ingrained in the Chinese culture and requires creative solutions to change hearts and minds from within.....solutions that Animals Asia is and will continue to pioneer, in the hope that dogs and cats can take their rightful place in the community as our best friends not food.
