Miss you Stevie, but I still listen to your wonderful songs and bomb guitar work every week.

I saw his last headlining show at The Kalamazoo County Fair, Incredible concert. I remember being dumbstruck and even shedding a tear two evenings later when hearing the news from Alpine Valley. It was almost Randy Rhoads all over again. Both were pretty traumatic experiences losing your first musical heroes.

Peace,
KF

Thats pretty crazy Karmic Farmer. I saw the first show of the Clapton/SRV tour AFTER the accident, in Bonner Springs KS (outside Kansas City). I remember Clapton didn't really say anything just dedicated the show to SRV and shredded the guitar and left. It was heavy.

Seeing this thread a bit late.... but the night he died was one of those few times where I remember exactly where I was and how I felt upon hearing the news. That was a really sad day.

One week prior to the helicopter crash, a very strange thing happened as Stevie was setting up for a show... his prized strat, one he had custom assembled with a guitar neck he had found somewhere, was hit by a falling spotlight hanging above the stage. The falling light snapped the guitar's neck in to pieces. A strange omen indeed.

RIP SRV.

I had never heard that story WD. I saw Stevie 2 weeks before he died and to this day I can say it was the best performance I have seen by any guitar player. During Voodoo Chile he was literally standing on the guitar pulling up on the whammy, then picking it up and slamming it on top of a Marshall stack and the whole time making it sound violently musical. No one has played like him since. No one ever will. RIP SRV
