StepByStep Basement-to-Growroom Construction

Hey guys, what's going on?
I've seen a few threads asking about basement grows, so I figured I'd start one on the construction of my basement growroom.

This is a work in progress, so I'll be updating the progress periodically.

When all is said and done, we'll be burning 3 x 1000w HPS for flowering, with a separate room for mothers, clones, and vegging.

We grow organically with the complete Earth Juice line, Jamaican bat guano, worm castings, some lime to sweeten the soil, and ProMixBx with some perlite added. I've been growing for about 7 or 8 years now, and have used EJ since day one. My friends say the taste of the herb is like no other.

First up, I'll start with my plants. They look a little sick because we had the (not so) great idea to make a tea from the fertile soil dug up from some wetlands near us. It probably would work great, but it is HIGHLY acidic, and I failed to test it before I watered my ladies with it. They took a little hit, but they are bouncing back just fine. For this run, we're using AE77Calio, ECSD, and Bubba Kush.

Someone told me I sounded like a narc today:biglaugh: :

The Bubba:

Notice the double-serrated leaves of the AE77Calio. When she's healthy, it really stands out and, to me, makes the leaves look really exotic:

Now the space. To start, we're only going to run 2 x 1000w HPS. We're going to make a room from this space to be 6ft. wide x 12ft. long. The ceiling is just over 6ft. tall:
4130012.JPG

This is where our passive fresh air intake will be coming from. It's a vast crawlspace that should be able to easily handle enough fresh air for our room:
4130015.JPG

This is where the 3rd light will go when we get there. Essentially, the flowering room is going to be "L"-shaped because the furnace is going to be in our way. The paint is cracked at the bottom of the wall there, it's not mold:

And another passive air intake hole:
4130016.JPG

All of the hot air will be blown into the duct that leads from the furnace to the chimney and up and out the top of the roof:

So that's pretty much it for now. My battery ran out on my camera. Tomorrow, we're heading to the hardware store and we'll be starting to frame the actual room.

The partnership I have with my friend is great; he's a certified carpenter and knows quite a bit about electrical type work, and I have the gardening skills.

Eventually, I'd like to get the room hermetically sealed and add CO2.

Everything is all planned out, we have a means by which to make the plans happen, and we should have the perfect environment for our ladies.

I'm pretty excited about the whole project. :joint:

Any questions, comments, or suggestions are always welcome. I will be updating this thread as we progress. Stay tuned.

should be a great thread to watch, and unlike marley1 I find great humor in that first pic :p

Yesterday was a BUSY day...

Yesterday was a BUSY day...

...and a very productive day :smoker::dance:

So we started early and went to the hardware store and got everything we needed.

Immediately, work began. We started by framing out the section. My original plan was to build the room longways, 6ft x 12 ft. After a brief discussion, we decided to build it wideways (is that a word:confused:??):

Then we threw up some 1/4in luan for the walls:

After that, I went and sealed any immediately visible lightleaks with this shit called something like Good Stuff. It's this foam stuff that expands and dries and fills in any cracks. As the name implies, it's pretty Good Stuff

Then I painted the entire room. Except for the floor. I flipping hate painting. But I just kept reminding myself that it doesn't have to be done very often. But to make it that much more annoying, I got the wrong color paint:bashhead:. I realized right as I was finishing up the first coat. So I just went and got a gallon of flat white and did a second coat with that.

Not quite done...

Not quite done...

Late last night, I decided to knock out the ventilation. I enjoyed this part a lot. I couldn't believe I was still going at this point. I had a long and busy day.

Anyway, here's how the ventilation turned out:

Now we had originally believed this pipe:

to lead to the chimney and out the roof of the house.

But it led here:

Out to the front of the basement.

So we found the chimney pipe this morning and fixed it.

Everything is looking very tight. I am very excited. I am positive this has been the best grow op I've set up in 8 years:joint::joint::joint:.

We'll be putting up a door and filling in any other minor lightleaks that may show up. By this Sunday we should be able to flip the lights to 12/12.

looking good so far I must say that I'm a tad jealous cause they don't have basements where I'm at so I guess I just live through yours. Good luck

I guess being grammatical raised someone's suspicions, eh? :biglaugh: Seriously, looks like an auspicious beginning. I'll be following along.

looks like you did it the hard way, building around the existing plants. :)

:listen2:Actually, I didn't build around existing plants. I had a plan of how many plants I could fit into the space and worked with that plan:listen2: I just so happened to have had the plants.

I'd say the space is filled in pretty well. Some of the plants look a little like shit. I had to adopt them from a couple who were neglecting them.

There's a third 600w light all the way to the right that I was able to get a proper angle on with the camera.

Here's a couple Calio shots. They were taken a few days ago, so that would put them at around 29 days of flowering.

I like the luan for the walls. Light, easy to work with, good idea.

I made a wall and used drywall. Heavy and a PITA to deal with by yourself.
