It usually takes a week for root bumps to start showing. Are you seeing any white bumps? What is the water temp? 74-80 is ideal.

Leave it to icmag..... Ask and yee shall recieve!!!

I was about to buy a $80 clone setup and low and behold, a little investigating goes a long ways! Thanks everyone who contributed to this thread, this should be a sticky. Ill be making one of these babys in the next week.

For now I was wondering since I already have a small pump and airstone could I put a clone in a small am-pm cup with the airstone and some water for a clone I want in the meentime??? I have a flowerring goo plant that just started flowerring and I want to clone it and make a mother before it gets too far into flower...

Rut roh. That slime is algae and is very bad for your clones. The slime chokes the stem from growing roots and thats why you haven't grown any. I had that happen to a batch of clones once and they had to be trashed because the roots they did grow were so brittle I couldn't even transplant them. There's a sticky in the Infirmary that you should check out (Strange Slime...long thread). If you haven't gotten any bumps after 2 weeks, plus algae growth, the clones aren't going to root.

I just saw this thread and finally decided I needed to throw mine together. I had all the stuff laying around, only took me about 15 minute to gather it all and get some clones in it. :joint:

2 Blockhead clones, can't wait to flower them out! :rasta:

Aluminum foil for the top for two reasons. When you're ready to take a clone out, just tear the hole bigger and it'll come out no problem, it won't root into any medium so I'll be putting nothing but the plant into coco once it roots, and it'll block any light from the top. I want to leave the sides clear because I'd like to be able to see the progress without disturbing the cuts, but if I have algea problems I'll just black it out and check for roots once a week or something. Thanks for all the contributions to the thread everyone!

GET MO - I'd be worried about getting the roots out of that hole in the lid there when the time comes.

hey itsgrowtime why would i be getting the slime algae?

There's a multitude of possible reasons. Read through the Strange Slime sticky in the Infirmary for in depth discussion. Some possible reasons are: adding Hygrozyme or nutes to clone water, light penetration into cloner water, high silicates in tap water, etc.

Exactly like mine, same place of purchase as well! I used foam pipe insulation for my plugs, $1.99 at Lowes for 5 feet of it. I also put in a drop or two of Superthrive, but no nutes. 100% success after two weeks bubbling. From there, right to soil and flower away. Gotta love the soil sog + bubble cloner for EASY small-time production!

Question, if the stems are underwater, why bother with the bubbles? Just for the O2?

You can clone in standing water but it takes longer. I think the bubbles offer extra O2 as well as keeping the water from sitting and stagnating. Sitting water always ends up collecting "stuff" in it. Bubble cloning is all I use. 2 weeks yields 95% success, regardless of number of clones, with very healthy roots, some 3 to 4" long.

Some questions....
How far away should the light be from the clones?
How often should I change the water?

Thanks yall, didnt want to read through this whole damn thread...

A single 23w CFL a foot or two above the clones is enough. Don't change the water, just keep adding it back with fresh water as it evaporates. That's a hell of a lot of bubbles! You don't need anywhere near that much to get roots. In fact, Ive noticed that more bubbles forces some of the clones stems to bend upward in a sort of "J" shape from the pressure. It can make them harder to transplant upright. Nice lookin cloner tho, it'll serve you well.

Will too much bubbles stunt the root growth to? I notice they aint goin as quick as they should be. Yeah my stems are bend'n like crazy, I think for the next batch maybe Ill take out one of the bubble makers...

Side note I put some h2o2 in the cloner and it seemed to help, just about 3 tablespoons.

edit:this is at 6 days..

It could but I can't tell you for sure. It's usually about 14 days of rooting time to get a solid rootmass going on all clones in my bubble cloner. Yours are looking good but def cut back on the bubbles next round. You really don't need a lot.
