Stealth Screwing

Sorry to all those who thought this thread was going to be a little more interesting then it is based on the subject but unfortunitly it involves fasteners.

So here is my question. I am building a second cab now and I need to reinforce it plus put things like screws in for the lights, hang fans etc and I was wondering how you attach things in a stealthy fashin. The walls aren't very thick on this thing. How do I screw something in like eye hooks for a light without breaking the exterior of the box which is totally not an option.

I had two thoughts on how to do it. One was to build a sub frame within the box and screw into that and the other was to use a strong epoxy. Any other suggestions?

1 min epoxy does wonderful things :) Available from walmart, it's like $3.50 a tube, mixes itself, and has 1500 pound rating.

Hmmm...pre-drill, don't use huge screws, and (if you HAVE to use long screws) take a dremel to the end that sticks out. Some thoughts.

The epoxy idea is good, too. You could pre-drill a small hole and scratch the area around the hole to give the epoxy a better hold. Use a hair dryer to help it set-up faster.

Good luck.

Or, just get the epoxy :D

I'm a big fan of that 1 min. self-mixing epoxy, if you can't tell. If you're concerned about it, all I can offer is this - it can hold my 8" Vortex to drywall, and I can hang off of that without an ounce of give.

Don't ask, it involved a big dog bolting, and a ladder.

Damn, Nite... thats some strong azz shit. 1500lb is silly (almost unbelieveable).

So the eqoxy is holding your fan up w\ no probs , AND then you hang on it ? JEEZ...

Thx!

yeah, i've had some pretty crazy epoxy in the past. The key is to apply it to a large enough surface area. Like usually its 1500 pounds per square inch or something like that.

What I might do is get a 2 x 4 , cut it to size, then cover the whole back with epoxy which would be a helluva lot of surface area. Then I can just drill into the 2 x 4.

It wasn't by choice, believe me :D I was re-routing the ducting in my last room, and my 80lb boxer/lab mix was in there with me. I was up on the ladder putting the ducting on the fan when there was a knock at the front door. Well, pup goes into 'INVADER!!! ATTACK!!!' mode, and barrels out of the room, taking the ladder with him. So, I end up hanging from the fan. Was good for knowledge, not a test I'd recommend though, cuz if it hadn't held...*shudder*
