If you get the vortex 4" fan that say has 172CFM, you have to build the filter core about 10.5" long with a 4" diameter. You would end up with about 130in² filter core. The way you do the math is easy really - just look at the diagram numbers and say ok - if a 150cfm w/4" diameter needs 9" height, then do 150 / 9 = 16.6666
Then you would take the cfm of your fan (assuming your also using a 4" diameter) and divide it by 16.6666 which will give you the length you need for your filter core. You want this number to be as close as possible (or slightly longer) otherwise you end up with a fan that just has a vortex and blows air around rather than sucking it thru the filter.
If you custom make your filter with my instructions - just about any fan can be used really. The idea is to change out the air in your box 3 times per minute. You figure this by the cubic volume of your box's interior and divide it by your fan's cfm. I.e. 160cfm / 18cubic feet in my box = 8.89 [Times air changed out per minute]
if your using the filter then take 20% off your fan cfm and calculate like that-
160cfm - 20% = 128 / 18cubic feet = 7.11 [Times are changed out per minute]
Your DIY link was a bit hard to follow I thougth, I found another one which seemed similar as what and was easier for me to follow, will that still work?
I would imagine, but without seeing it I can't really make a judgement. I just say - carbon scrubber all the way. Just out of curiosity - what did you find difficult about following my DIY? I want to make it understandable to anyone.
I don't know I'm a dumbass at some shit man, I just couldn't figure out what size parts to get, yours looked HUGE for a 4" vortex and I wasnt sure what size parts exactly but I just purchased one online for like 65 shipped, a can9000 and by the time I paid for the charcoal and parts i was looking @ 40 and who knows how well it would have worked w/ my craftsmanship. But tommorow I'll have pics of a sic aquarium box everyone .... thanks for all the help thus far. And if anyone has any info on boomer growing let me know...
