Non-US
UK - Gypsy's box (both colors) and a cheap one

this site used to sell Gypsy's stash-boxes including Gypsy's mini stashbox and now they sell an exact copy of it called the Daily Sifter, but it's just a cheapo, crappy version of GN's stash box that is sold for about the same price as the original lol

silk or stainless steel mesh?

silk or stainless steel mesh?

For a stash box, would people want Silk or Stainless steel? I read on bcboxes that he uses a 100mesh stainless steel screen and basically talks bad about silk, polyester and nylon screens.

For stainless steel, I could imagine it's much stronger, durable and cheaper in the long run. But what about silk benefits? Able to sift into a more pure kif/hash grade?

bubbleman's box should be renamed to "Bubble Hash Box", while the others can be called stash boxes. :) The purpose of bubbleman's box is definitely not like the others

steel is not the ideal mesh for kif or stash boxes...synthetic meshes are by far the best to dry sift with

nylon or polyester screen meshes are tauter and far more flexible and carding is far more pleasant than steel...mesh should be tight enough to bounce a coin on and the tautness must be uniform in all directions ( uniform tautness equal uniform hole opening sizes as well as having a perfect flat mesh surface to work on)

synthetic meshes are tougher than you think and if you don't smoke over them (dah!) they will last as long as the box! .....but of coarse red hot ash or sharp scissors can punch a hole but the same will happen with fine steel meshes with anything sharp

but where synthetic meshes shine over steel is when carding the ground up bud over the screen back and forth......steel, unless it has been professionally stretched and fixed to the frame, often has undulations or tight and loose sections of the mesh which detracts when carding..also the sound and and feel of scraping a card over steel mesh is unpleasant...and anything apart from a steel card is not suitable for carding over steel mesh as it would wear off into your kif.

but if you can get your hands on a steel mesh box ...go for it.....any kif or stash box is better than none

often, in the US, people refer to any non-metal mesh as "silk screens".....but more often than not, if you look close enough you'll see it is synthetic, not a natural material

Silk meshes have been use for centuries for dry sifting hash....silk mesh is tough

but nylon and polyester meshes have taken over from silk in the past few decades....

and it's just not a cost thing...synthetic meshes are far superior to silk mainly because silk is comprised of multi strands or threads and steel and nylon meshes are made up of mono-fibre threads (in US spelling : mono-fiber)..over time, the tiny silk fibres fray and break partially blocking the mesh holes which affect fall through rates.

Cheeba - i think the only reason they weren't marketed that way is to keep the authenticity of "bubble hash" being water washed ... but i dunno, i know that bubbleman (and me, and others) agree that lot's of great dry sift can be FMCD (fully melt, clear, cerebral high) so "bubble box" but bubble hash ... i still think water washed. although i think "dry sift bubble" is the perfect reference for sift made from those rad boxes :D the baron needs some
