Starting a new build from the ground up

Pop, I have been back in school for a year, but only taking 1 class per semester. Work is to hectic for more. I was out of school since 97'. I had a hard time getting my clones to root, using rootech. I am doing a test with 5 cuts in coco with the boonide rooting powder, so far so good. 2 days and they are still green, without a dome . I am trying to stop paying inflated hydro store prices, there are huge agricultural operations and I bet the products they use far exceed the crap that is marketed directly to the cannabis industry. I am kind of up in the air about field of study. The pot head in me wants to study horticulture, but I have to go full-time to do that. My wife is a year out from her degree. I will be going full-time once she's back to work. I want to study engineering but don't really have 6-7 years for school. I wish I could go full-time now, but I need to work. I got a wife and 3 kids to support.

good idea getting your feet wet with 1 class a semester
it would be tough to jump right back in full time
there is a certain skill set to just being a student and you ahve to relearn how to learn if that makes any sence (luckily, i am not back in school!)
maybe you could jsut take a botany class ( should fill a science req) and see how you like it
i bet if you got creative, there are lots of courses of study that could translate to the weed growing field
landscape architecture would help i bet, you would learn about growing zones and maybe about all dif irrigation methods, how to design ewatering systems and put them together...
/hahah that actually sounds very interesting, maybe i will go back to school one day!

why did you decide not to use a dome?
i have pretty good luck using rapid rooters and clonex, but i always use a dome

I have read a few posts about cloning in coco and soil etc. No one used a dome. Mine look nice after 2 days. The horticulture program here requires 3 certificates, landscape architecture is one that I was planning on taking, along with soil science, and integrated pest management. Yeah I was thinking a consulting business would be nice. I bet a lot of commercial ops would rather have a professional to handle traning employees, and possibly contract for the inevitable pest invasion.

Tonight will be 3 days so I am hopeful, they look better than the clones I put into rock wool. I used rapid rooters for a couple years, and one day I lost the touch with them. I think ditch the dome for me is best. Cloning is a weird thing. I hear people say all kinds of outlandish stuff. You never know so here we go with a trial run. I will update progress as they go

soil science, and integrated pest management. .

The most difficult part is growing, learn soil science, it is critical and is where even the best who don't apply it, end up having huge problems.

The guys with the big yields and the best quality all have something in common. Huge amounts of roots.

Como on over and read a bit at the Slow Nickel lounge, first watch the video. No one is selling anything.

And the :woohoo: salesman are not welcome either and will quickly be escorted away.. haha.

Oasis cubes ftw. Wet it with tap water, stick your cutting in, throw it in an airtight container (I like clear cereal containers) under a cfl and forget about it. They retain the perfect amount of moisture and come precharged with the perfect amount of nutes. To each his own, but I am a semi-retarded individual, and I get 100% success rates using this method.

Sorry to hear about all that other bs. Sending good vibes your way.

Tree aren't oasis cubes the same as

The same as... rockwool? coco? It is lighter than either, and has better drainage. It is extremely uniform and porous.. I have had on and off success using rockwool, it has a tendency to clump up and retain too much moisture, which a couple times has led to mildew and algae, not to mention if they arent properly ph'ed.. forget about it. I would think that Oasis cubes would have become the gold standard for mj seeds and clones by now seeing as how they are already ph perfect and precharged with just the right amount of nutes. They are surprisingly hard to source, I have to order mine off ebay. I grab 1.5"x1.5" slabs of like.. 50 for something like 30 bucks. I don't feed them anything 'cept tap water every few days with a little superthrive. Haven't killed a clone since I made the switch a couple years ago.

I'll also add that I would be skepticle of using these without a dome. These things are like neat little sponges (makes for 0 cleanup) that don't really soak up very much water. They drain in a flash, so I would imagine you would need to hand water constantly or keep rh way up if you weren't using a dome to prevent that perfectly airy/slightly moist cube from drying right up. Of course this is conjecture, since I have never tried using these without a "dome".

Itree I am using straight coco not a cube. I always thought that no dome would be impossible. So far so good. I have not had to water them yet.If the coco doesn't work, I will try the oasis cubes. I have to get my cloning back on track. I will need a lot of clones to feed the shed.

Definitely can't beat the price 15 bucks for a bag of coco. I could cut hundreds of clones from a bag of coco that I am going to buy anyways.

Loc, I tried the ebb and grow setup when I first started. It failed miserably, well I failed. I love coco I will stick with it. I have gotten 4-5 ounce plants out of 1.5 gallon pot. No plans to change it. I read your thread on the troubles with coco. Do what works for you loc

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I grow dwc so my experience with coco is pretty limited, and I haven't grown pot in soil since I was 12. I'm sure you can get better results an organic media with organic nutes, I just haven't seen them.

No max, I kinda dropped the ball on that. I plan on putting the epoxy floor coat. I kinda embrace the cold. This is a winter fall room. I think 4k will keep it plenty warm.

interested in your results cloning wiht coco
im gettign pretty good strike rates with rr'rs and a dome but it never hurts to have other techniques to choose from
i also used one of those fancy areoponic cloners a friend gave me
not much better just different

/ a buddy does it simular but puts the medium directly in a clear cup and puts the clear cup into another colored one
that way he can pull them out and check the roots
he labels both the clear and the colored cups

like someone said, there is all kinds of crazy info around about cloning on teh net

that sounds like a good field of study, man
having a degree along wiht your real world exp should def help get your foot in the door

Yeah hopefully pop I am banging my head against the wall with this fucking algebra. I used to like math till they started putting letters in it. I got the blocking done on the shed. Hopefully I can get the trench done this afternoon. Clones seem to be doing well.

i hear you buddy, im more an arts' kind of guy myself, but im pretty good at most maths
/the letters just mean more numbers
algebra is actually one of the most real world types of math we use
like at the grocery store, while traveling and most other thigns in life
if nothing else just do the work to pass the class
im sure you can do this tho, you seem like a smart guy and im sure there will be this "ah'ha" moment where it starts to make more sence

yeah those clones look good
standing upright and have good color
what is the humidity like in your clone area?

Pop, yeah I am a history buff, regular math is easy for me. Not sure the humidity probably not real high. I live in a dry ass desert. I have gotten A's in the classes I have taken so far. I plan on keeping that trend going.
