Im in Virginia, and I'm not connected in anyway, so the famous names didn't used to come around me. And if they did, you had no way of knowing what it actually was.
But the best weed I ever smoked (that wasn't grown by me or a friend) was labeled sour d.
It was the best smelling stuff! Who knows if it was legit, but my god the aroma!
We were outside at a party and my buddy acted like he was looking at our friends stocking cap, but really he put a bag of weed in the hat and placed it back on the dudes head. You could smell this ziplocked bag in his hat from 8 feet away. The old dude went nuts trying to find the dank, that was in his hat. Lol. He kept saying "I know I'm getting close I smell it"
It had a very skunky odor from afar. But it changed when you stuck your nose in the jar.
