Always be flowering!

Skipped the veg show for this lot. Running two CSG strains new to me, SSSDH Fem Mix and Gas Galore.

I bought a pack of the SSSDH fem mix, got the gas galore bean as a bonus.

The two are in the tent I used for Frank last grow. Both plants are looking great; flower started this week, April 6th.

These two are in 1-gal grow bags.

The SSSDH fem is definitely a stretcher. I may have to kick the gas galore out of the tent and tie her down like I did with Frank last run.

Decision made; bought another set of LED lights, the XS2500. This time I went thru eBay, where it was about $20 cheaper.

I'll be retiring my home-made LED lights being used in the original tent. The plants clearly prefer the Vipar Spectras.

DAY 14

SSSDH and Gas Galore have been separated. SSSDH has been tied down in the main tent as she's come within 5" of the lights... no ill effect though. GG has been moved to the 3x3 CDDW tent. The CDDWs + Frank clone are in another 2x4' tent with the new light.

SSSDH is a big plant. GG looks to have a bunch of bud sites. Happy so far!

SSSDH fem has taken over the tent. Stretch seems to be under control for now. At 60% light power

Gas galore also looking good. At 50% light power, bumped it to 75% (she's probably not going to like it). Haven't had to train her much other than caging her up:

I bought the mater cages cheap years ago. Kind of a pain to store but they nest. Easy to find, I've reused them for years.

Noticed a bunch of dead fungus gnats on the floor of the SSSDH tent over the past couple of weeks. I wonder if she naturally is repellent to pests?

Kind of wierd to think of them hanging out on the plant. Luckily I've never seen one in a bud.

I'll probably never get rid of them, but they aren't bothering the mature plants. Setup a bunch more sticky traps. They have killed a lot of my seedlings, so much that in the future I'll have to setup a seedling box in the bathroom or something.

Confirmed the GG didn't like the power bump, so I set it back to 50%. Will have to get her acclimated.

Day 27 flower

GG looking good:

SSSDH is a yellowing and dropping more leaves. Any ideas what's causing this, a nute deficiency of some sort? Feeding the same nutes as the ggg.

I gave her some bloom booster 10-30-20. Maybe she needs more nutes? Currently 600-800 ppms.

Looks like nitrogen mostly but if you're feeding it what you consider a lot, then try upping magnesium I find in my experience plants need a lot during stretch. Could possibly overwatered. Try letting it dry up a couple days if you don't see better growth on the new stuff then hit it with a half a teaspoon of Epson in a gallon of water one time see if that does it. Past week 6 you prolly won't notice anything except the damage stops progressing.

Thanks for the tips, ah yes, the ol'd classic calmag. I think I'll try giving the SSSDH a booster short of calmag.

I only recently started mixing nutes in a 5gallon tub, so its definitely possible my calmag is off. Just want to make sure I don't poison the gas galore!

DAY 58 UPDATE

The SSSDH has gone into beast mode and is producing some nice fat flowers! Really stoked at how she really stacked these last few weeks.

The are in floppy mode now:

I have 3 cuts of her. Here's the gas galore; I've already harvested a couple of tops that were 50% amber. Pine cones:

In my last grow I used coffee grounds as top dressing with no incident. This time around, it turned out to be a disaster.

Turns out the spring insects love the coffee grounds, turning it basically into compost, with tons of pupas and tiny jumping bugs. I scraped out all the old grounds; the infestation stops at the coco.

Luckily it didn't harm these plants that much, but I did have to deal with more insects than usual. They are also probably the reason why my cuts aren't that vigorous. Lesson learned!

Looking good dude. That Gas Galore is a chunker huh!?

Yeah that's the downside of topdressing, especially uncomposted material, or even just mulching, is the bugs freakin love it.
I feel more confident doing stuff like that in winter, at least indoors, but in summer I feel the risk:reward ratio is much less favorable with the bugs being more active. In summer I generally prefer to go with bigger pots and do less topdressing/mulching, but that's just me. I don't have a lot of energy to waste fighting bug wars.

How are the aromas? Cheers.

Great info Disso!

Did a trichome smear smell test. The SSSDH smells like candy. Tropical candy.

The gas galore, true to it's name, at first brush smells like a light fuel. Not gasoline, but something else. However, a trichome rub its much more menthol, pine sol like.

Note both are in one gallon cloth bags. I think the gas really needs the 2 gal to get the super fat nugs I had last run, but I also feel like smaller nugs are less likely to mold?

Ooweee sounds delicious!

Definitely right about the smaller nugs being less mold prone. Those XXL mega chunkers are a sight to behold but often more trouble than they're worth, unless your environment is super dialed and/or the genetics are particularly mold resistant.
I'm impressed how big you've got them in that soil volume. Seriously. Definitely makes it harder to keep em happy when the plants outsize the pots by such a degree, I'd think that's a big part of why you were seeing the deficiency/hunger, although I know you can get away with it a bit more when feeding liquid nutes.

I learned recently that plants mobilize/uptake nutrients more efficiently when their roots are actively stretching out, its not just about the small pots being a smaller nutrient 'reservoir' and smaller root mass.
The other thing is its much easier to miss your window for watering in smaller pots, and rather than riding a nice middle range of around 3-8 out of 10 saturation level, becomes much more likely to swing between overly dry (1-2) to overly wet (9-10). Being on point with watering obviously ties back into nutrient uptake too, so you're really fighting an uphill battle with big plants in small pots. With that being said, you seem to be doing pretty well!

Just some food for thought. Happy growing my friend.

Thanks for the thoughts, disso!

Both girls are down and have been dried. I'd say the Gas is not as good as the CDDW from last run, but the SSSDH, I'm calling her sinus-buster.

While trimming, she had my nose running constantly, sinuses ablaze. Sneezing. Much more so than any other plant in the past. Nugs also look nice and smoke very well so far.

Also I need to setup my blumat system. I tend to go away for 3-4 days on the weekends during the summer holidays; I flood their pots so they have enough water to last, usually to no ill effect, but some plants complain about it.

I just put my CDDW clone that had gone into flower that I revegged. A bonus of the wierdness that the veg -> flower -> veg cycle induces, which is a crap load of bud sites. She's in a two gallon bag, We'll see if we get the XXL mega chunkers. I'll take the size inbetween!
