Squanto…old Afghan heirloom

This is the female that I decided to put back into veg. I bring her in at night and put her under lights because we’re still at risk of overnight frost here till around end of May. As a fun little side project this summer I want to see how big I can get her outdoors. I think I’ll dig a big hole, put in some good soil and plant her directly into the ground and try to get her to be absolutely massive

Very nice. Reveg works great. We're smoking some re-veg of an indica and it is the bomb.

getting close to harvest, probably only 2 weeks away. I feel like I missed my mark with her this round though, her buds stayed pretty small for some reason, I may need to fix something in my grow environment. It’s a very old line so big chunky buds isn’t really her thing but I usually get her to get a little bigger 🤷‍♂️

Even with the smaller buds though she’s making up for it in resin content and aroma. Really nice cedar and tea…citrus and chamomile. Here’s a pic of the little dwarf pheno

It’s hard to tell in the pic but she’s covered in frost. The dwarf has a different nose…more candy sweet citrus with her

My "Afghan Mix" from Kwik Seeds looked the same. It's just the phenotype. I'd continue a light balanced feeding for at least 2 more weeks and go from there. Do not screw up the leaves with bloom foods or some other forum crap drill! :)

One of my favorite plants ever (paki), grew big thick stems, but the largest bud would be no bigger than end of thumb size. Those buds were extremely heavy though. Just another one of those sad stories about losing a favorite strain.

Harvest has begun. The most thin leafed one was actually the first one ready to go. I chopped her at day 51 with probably a little under 5% amber trichomes which is the sweet spot for Squanto.

Shes sufficiently dry and I just put her into jars to cure but not before an early smoke test… Smell is classic Squanto, when you smell it you know it, musky chamomile spice. I rolled up a nice joint, dry toke gives a taste of sage. Effects hit very quickly but it builds over the first 10 minutes very gradually. It eased me into a blissful euphoric effect with a great body buzz as well. Head stays absolutely clear in the sense that I can still function minor and major tasks with ease all while being completely stoned. For me the effects taper off after about an hour but the relaxed cool headed effects remain a bit longer than that.

The other tall plant and the dwarf pheno were chopped today, I’m looking forward to sampling those when they are ready. So far I am very pleased at how the first harvested plant turned out. It may not have the looks but she sure does have the buzz

just wanted to pop back in here to show how Squanto looks outdoors where she truly shines

This is two females, they just started showing pistols. Outdoors Squanto looks very different than how she is indoors but still has that narrow leaf look, these two look almost identical yet they’re both from seed.

On a related note, I wanted to update on that plant I pulled out of flower from the indoor run to let her reveg and flower outside full season

She became huge!! She is noteworthy for a different reason though, her stem rub is completely different than any other Squanto I’ve had, it’s straight bubble gum but more specifically Fruit Stripes bubble gum, like dead on. When she was trying to re-veg this past spring I got a chance to see some of the immature buds that the shutes grew out of and I though it was a fluke that they smelled of strong bubble gum but now that I’m getting the stem rub in early flower I now think it’s possible she could be something special so we shall see

Squanto leafs remind me of hashbean which was pulled from a kilo of hash from Afghanistan in the 90’s; I don’t have any younger pics handy but it’s a wonderful thin leafed pure Afghani; here’s couple pics near end flower

Hashbean sounds really interesting, what does she smell like? Also Cashbean is an amazing name for the Cambodian cross

Thx - HB is a musky lime mint iirc; @Rgd gave me the seeds & is person whom originally selfed it from the one seed out the brick of hash and has grown it many more times than I; maybe he’ll weigh in here some. He’s also grown it outside so maybe has some of those pics…

Squanto outdoors went amazing this season
She really shines outdoors. Pictured here is the most nld pheno, she was harvested yesterday October 5th. The bubblegum fruit stripe pheno we harvested the week prior and retained its bubblegum scent and flavor and maybe a little bit of grapefruit in there now that’s it’s dry enough to smoke. Initial smoke tests on the fruit stripe gum pheno is showing pretty high potency. Hits you immediately and washes over you by the third hit of a joint and gets you fully stoned

The first cannabis plant I grew in the 60s was from seeds I took out of a block of hash.

Hey all. Finally doing a good seedless run of an heirloom seed variety I have that we call Squanto. I’ve posted about it in a different thread but basically it’s an old IBL seed line that I got from an old grower I used to work for. His crew brought it in in the 70s and pumped it out commercially. It’s an Afghan landrace/heirloom that looks like what some would call a Sativa… thin leaves, tall branchy type growth. After doing a couple seed increases with it I feel confident that I have enough seeds so that it’s not in danger of being lost so for this run I’m finally doing a good seedless crop with her. Right now I’ve got 11 seedlings View attachment 18966283
I figured I’d do a grow log so that y’all can check it out. Gonna veg them through March and flower through April and May. I’ve been growing Squanto for years and they only take 7 to 8 weeks to mature. It’s almost uniform in finished product, we’ve never had to make clones the buds always come out the same. It’s always real special smoke.
Sounds like a killer variety! That's the point I am trying to get at. Have enough seeds or at least a regular seed program to always run from seed 👍✌️

Here is some of the dried and cured outdoor Squanto. These were from the most extreme NLD phone I had. All the buds from this plant came out like this, super long and slender, very airy "sativa" type buds but she's pure afghan. resin on this plant is greasy, coats your whole hand when you handle them. A lot of people I know totally disregard this strain because of its lack of bag appeal. It doesn't have the same type of narcotic potency that a lot of smokers look for but for those who like a truly unique form of cannabis this is the stuff and the pleasantness of the effects are second to none, that's why this is my favorite strain to get seeds to people
