Spider Mites two days before harvesting...

I noticed on one of my nicer buds that there was a webby looking thing sprawled across the top of the bud.
freaked. thought mold?? but, kali is very mold resistant.
anyways, it was tuff to get to that part of the plant but i managed with a coat hanger and noticed a nice web covering the top of the bud and some on the pop corn buds along the stem.

i chopped that part of the plant. being 5 days already into flush. figured it wouldn't be that bad of a smoke. i do not see any other buds effected.

so my question is... just in case there is mites on other buds that i can't see what should i do? spray with water?

and for the bud i just pulled. i trimmed and hanged to dry. is there anything i should do to the herb so im not smoking dead mites? (i already pulled all the webbing and what not. i also kept the trimming in a bag i plan to keep seperate from the other trimming and threw it in the freezer. will this kill off the mites?)

There's not a lot you can do other than wetting your hands and picking the webbing and mites off as best you can. I had this same thing happen not to long back and after trimming I put them in the freezer for a day to kill off what I didn't get by hand....I have a friend that is a biologist and he laughed and said when they die they become organic matter and they wont hurt you anyways. It's more getting past the thought. Imagine some of the crap we all have smoked off street bud, lol....

can mites fuck with the buds while they dry in any way shape or form. besides webbing them and laying eggs? mess with the trichs and what not?

They will continue to build webbing and laying eggs. Toss them into a freezer for a day after you have trimmed them.....If they aren't that heavy, I wouldn't worry about it....

Curbie and Bv smoke a joint

Pop! Crackle! Snap!

Blackvelvet: What the hell is that in this joint?

Curbie: My buds have mite bugs. :badday:

I rinse my plants well in the shower (including both sides of the leaves) with water before harvest. This should remove alot of the critters. Use a fan to softly dry the plants.

when you cut with a bad infestation, after a day or two drying, youll see them (if Plants Are Hanging) crawll to the top of the stem, they make a little city, where the stem was cut, run em under hot water and kinda scrape em off, they should stay out of the buds, as for eggs who knows , had to do this few times last summer

Never freeze your buds unless they are dried first. You will ruin them, they turn blackish and taste like shit.

I don't even like to freeze dry bud like lots of people use to do up here years ago.

yeah bro i feel for ya i just went through this. like said above i think the best way is to hang the whole tree on a thick yarn and within a few days they will all go to the top and build a web and hang out. they jump ship soon after the plant is dead. what i did was coat the hell out of the ends of the strings with neem and when they try to leave the yarn they will die on the ends if u keep it wet with oil.

if ya stick it in the freezer after u chop they might just bury themselves even deeper in your buds and eventually will die i'm sure. but then u get crackle pop when u burn it and i'm not sure how the freezing will effect the buds. i would think it would damage it but i've never tried it. good luck man

i put the herb in the freezer. yeah they darkened up a bit. in anycase, we'll see if that branch was effected in any way soon enough.

i put weed in the freezer all the time...

it seems to slightly affect it or maybe it's just cuz it's in a dark place... but sometimes it seems to bring the flavor of the bud out and make it smoke smoother...

i used to LOVE throwing cold nugs in my pipe...

if it weakens the weed it still doesn't lower it that much...

Hello

A trick from france :
Put your buds into water ( at about 20°C) during one hour, and "shake" them into the water every five minutes.
Than put them in front of a fan unless they seemed to have no longer water inside. ( a day max )
It s a short term watercuring, which has almost no effect on taste, but can let you clean your weed from pests.

I smoked some bud I grew that got mites in the cure, put it in the microwave for a few seconds, they all died! Smoked fine, the burning should sanitize them well and I didnt notice any difference in the smoke lol..

I HATE bugs in my food, but if its being burnt completly and they are that small who cares? Well I dont.

Something tells me that all the Colombian, Mexi, Thai, Jamacan commercial weed might have had a bug or two on it. Some of them a tad bigger than a mite too (those you threw out with the seeds, lol). A few mites wouldn't bother me and if there were enough critters to bother me that bud probably would be so eaten it wouldn't be worth smoking. I would probably dry the bud and freeze it to kill em , I'm not too sqeamish about smoking dead mites but creepy crawlies freak me the fuck out, lol.

Fuck!!! Smoke the mites man!

Freezing fresh bud, soaking them in water, nuking them??????

Come on!! The buds will taste better than putting them through all that. Besides, all that still has the bugs on them. Dry the buds, the mites die, the buds still cure like it was meant to cure. You can have nicely cured buds with mites on them or frozen nuked tsunami buds with mites on them.

Good grief....

I would probably dry the bud and freeze it to kill em

The bugs are dead once the buds dry. They dehydrate and croak.

I would not have nuked it but I didnt want them to populate more, needed them all dead pronto and a few seconds wont hurt the bud, microwave ovens are calibrated to affect H2O not THC, the trichs were allready dry as was most of the leaf matter so it was just the bugs that got the ZZZAP!

If your buds are dry the mites are dead, it's as simple as that.

?

Freezing wet bud is like Like freezing lettuce, it ruins it. You should never even freeze dried bud, it breaks down too quickly once unthawed imo.
You need to thoroughly dry bud before it should be stored in a cool dark place in jars, and at the most in a refrigerator, never frozen.

Soak them in water? Just because of some mites? That is very sketchy as some places are high humidity and all that would do is encourage mold, make trichs fall out, washes terpenes out, etc..

nuke bud? Never microwave anything! Nuking food is bad enough. Talk about trich explosion LOL

Why not pick off the webs, and let the critters migrate away? You are so close to harvest, nothing else will really work a miracle.

You know what? If you let your babies get infected to the point of webs, it got way outta hand a long time ago man.. You really need to think about inspecting your plants more often, look for signs of pests, sterilizing the environment, getting your clones from decent sources, and not neglecting the girls basically.

Next time look for yellowing leaves with tons of little black dots on top, almost like a rash, it's a tell tale sign that they have taken over a leaf and each dot represents damage done by thousands of spider mites under the leaf sucking away the "big-bud juice" lol.

I've usually seen them attack one plant more than others and it seems to spread from that hot spot on to the rest of the grow. I immediately remove the worst hit plant and destroy it or put it in quarantine far away, then depending on the stage the plants are in, go about curbing their onset (stage before webs) spreading their eggs like bunnies multiplying.

I'll try to remove any leaves that show the dots, then I'll go buy a ton (literally millions in a small bottle) of predator mites etc. to keep the pests under control. Thats what God does outdoors, he sends spiders and shit like that to eat them before they colonize your plant and make webs, ewwwwwww

The best thing to do is use a preventative method on your clones or seedling in veg, use neem oil throughout veg, and by the time they flower, they are clean and a whole colony can'y form and take over in just 45 or 60 days like they can if they came infected massively from veg into flower.

Just pick off the webs, and the mites will leave the drying buds, you won't taste or see them. This whole thing about Black Velvet smoking Snap-Crackle-Pop bud is COMPLETE BULLSHIT- I DONT KNOW WHAT THE F@CK THAT PERSON IS THINKING, MAkING UP HOGWASH LIKE THAT.

Best of luck.
