Spider Mites, -sigh-

After about a month of growing a clone I recieved from a friend, which was my only plant at the time, I didn't even think to check for spider mites....or anything for that matter, now one month and a half month into growing it for clones, around 30 of them so far, I noticed an odd browning/yellowing on the leaves, sure enough I had a full blown spider mite infection, they had gotten onto a bagseed plant I started after I started the clone. So I looked around on the net, and haven't really found a clear answer, I've tried a light soap spray removing, unecessary leaves....and it appeared to work, but now 4 days later I'm seeing mites again, and I fear they may have hoped ship onto the clones. I think I need some help before I lose control of them. I'm using a dwc for the mother clone, and a cheapo bubbler cloner if that helps..any advice is welcome, preferably low-budget solutions.

sorry to hear about it mate.
mite control is big subject, do
some searching. Floramite and
hot shot pest strips seem popular.
Neem oil can slow em down.

Some cheap things to do right now to
"contain" them:
1. vacuum what you can out
2. lower the temps
3. raise the humidity by daily spraying of water
on the foliage. (or leave in the cold rain perhaps)

hope that helps

Thanks for the reply, I must be a little stoned if I didn't notice that very helpful spider mite guide above, going through it now and going to figure out what I can do, hopefully this won't become to big of a problem considering there isn't too much for them to contaminate, and I'm still in veg...we'll see.

Floramite is the answer. Best thing i've used, and its easy on the plants. Saw 1oz bottles on EBAY so you don't have to drop $250 on a quart. One shot kill, eggs and all and stays active for 21 days.

the Hot-Shot No-Pest strips are the shit. they will get rid of those
mites overnight, guaranteed. for a cost of about $8.00 USD

I've used them before and while maybe not overnight, they did get rid of them completely. Try not to use them too long as their active chemicals are a carcinogen and they have been banned from use in some countries.

Floramite is really expensive by the quart.....like $250-$300 but there's a guy on ebay selling for $25 an ounce. Should last you a while.

Dichlorvos is effective but I'd NEVER use it in a living space and the local hydro shop flat out refuses to stock any product containing it as a safety precaution for the staff.

Battling pests, there is an order to go in:

PREVENTION
-do not visit infested grows
-change clothes and shower off after visiting any grow
-quarantine incoming plants
-treat incoming plants by placing them in a large cardboard box with some type of pesticide, like a no pest strip or spraying the inside of the box with rotenone or a pyrethrin spray
-do not allow conditions that favor mites, like hot, still air
-Choose known mite-resistant strains

PHYSICAL REMOVAL/BARRIERS:
-vacuum grow area frequently (yes, I have vacuumed my plants)
-Mist plants with a horticultural oil appropriate to their age. Examples are neem (Gardensafe 3-in-1), coriander (SMC), or citrus (Dr. Dooright).
-Ensure plants have ample Silica (Silica Blast). Chewing and rasping insects cause less damage to a plant with thick cell walls

MILD CHEMICALS:
-Spray or fog with pyrethrin. Space treatments 3 days apart. Treat three times.

MODERATE CHEMICALS:
-Hang a no-pest strip if the area is not inhabited by humans
-Spray with a rotenone/pyrethrin product or a Pyr type chemical with an activator such as PBO if the plants are still in veg. GO EASY!!! But still repeat the treatment multiple times

-Up to this point, combinations of the above will solve most infestations-

AGGRESSIVE CHEMICALS:
-AVID and Floramite are systemics. They remain in plant tissues for a significant length of time. NEITHER is labelled for food crop use!!! DO NOT USE past week 2 of flower! Exhaust all other optiosn before using these pesticides. Also remember that in the hands of someone who doesn't understand the concept of breeding a resistant colony of mites, they are dangerous in the same way that not finishing your whole perscription of antibiotics is dangerous. If you don't understand responsible pesticide use, do NOT use systemics!!!

Or you could just run ladybugs...

Stinky, do you have any advice for running ladybugs indoors? I, like a lot of other growers, have had nothing but bad luck with them. I remember you saying that the only bad experience that you had with them was their creepy bug sex :)

I use Spectracide in concentrate form. 1/2 teaspoon to a quart, foliar spray. repeat every other day. Usually takes 3 shots. To clean it up, use clearex 5ml to a quart and foliar spray several times a few days apart. This will wash it off the plants... Spectracide recommends 14 days before harvest. Try not to spray the buds!

Do spider mites leave webs in the plants? I dunno if I have any kind of bad bugs but I found a piece of what looked like a web going across some leaves the other day and was wondering if I should start checking things out closer..

Spider mites leave webs....

Doktor Doom total release fogger is non toxic and can be used up to the day of harvest, it kills spider mites, made for plants.....
If you don't kill them in veg then this is what I would use in flower, 12 bucks -

Spider Mites are intense and stressful I've only had one encounter with them thankfully.
As far as products go I have limited experience so follow previous posts for that. What I can recommend as the first step is spraying all the plants with plain water. Make sure to get the undersides of the leaves and pretty much soak the plants with the spray bottle.

Then i would thoroughly examine the plants and brush off any mites. Now if possible move the plants to another room while you clean the grow room and try to find where they are entering the grow. Of course follow up with some mite products

If you can, drop the temp in the room as cold as possible. Spider mites reproduce exponentially, as the temp rises.

ughhhh!!! Well I think I got spider mites...or some other type of small mite. The other day I saw what looked like a tiny piece of a web(looked almost lke a piece of hair) and have been on the lookout for mites since. Well tonight as I was watering my girls that are in veg I saw 2 little white mites jumping around in the water of the drain pan trying to get out. Are spider mites white?(they might have been a yellowish white, but I couldn't tell. I though I had cal/mag def's(which I do a lil) but I'm thinking most of my problems came from these mites now that their here. Heres some pics let me know if these look like spider mite problems to you please :bashhead:

All my girls are in veg still, but a few are getting way to big and need to get clones taken off them and flipped to 12/12 asap, but I don't wanna take the clones/flip them until I know I have completely taken care of the mites. I have 2 tents 1 for veg and 1 for flower and I think I have them in both rooms I know my veg one for sure and pretty positive the flower one too. Now the room their in is connected to the attic and the wooden piece has been cracked open a bit for a while think they could come from there? Anyways this grow is in my house that I live in and I was wondering if I could use the "no pests strips"(alot of people say do not use if you live in the same place you grow). I've read floramite is great also, but I don't have the money for that. Please get back to me asap on your opinions guys I'm really worried and need to get this problem fixed ASAP!!! Thanks in advance for all the help everybody!
