the leather = nigerian :) dlb crunk and myself sampled some of it at harvest fest this year. :)
Harvest fest ?
You probably met someone who grew Nigerian and was calling it Leather.
Leather in Florida was being grown by someone I knew and was a Nl5 X Haze pheno from Sensi Seeds..........

All the best,

O.K. here's the deal as best I can remember.

Krippy-(short for Kryptonite)Generic term form really good weed, but to some people in miami that means only one thing, Haze.

There are some truly outstanding examples of the haze floating around in south florida. The one called Leather is an old nl5xhaze cut that has the most incredible flavor, very rich and complex. You can defenitely taste rich leather nuances accompanied with musky undertones and touches of wildflowers and sandalwood. I have also heard people describe it as soapy(in a very good way). Definitely on of the best tastes in the cannabis world.

Gainesville Green, gone but not forgotten. Outdoor grown buds of mostly Thai and Afghani genetics; original landraces mind you. Grown in central Florida by Hippies with love, and it showed. This is the type of stuff you hear about from some of the old timers. I'll bet that those genetics would hold their own with any modern hybrid or elite cut. I was fortunate to have sampled it from some friends(students at UF), who brought some back to Miami to "show off". I can assure you that this was the stuff of arthurian legend. If you dont believe me just ask Soma, he grew GG when he lived in Florida. The last strain that I heard had any GG in it was a local (for central Florida) strain called Micanopy Moonbeam. But even that was several years back so who knows..

Peace!!!

DON'T SLEEP ON FLORIDA BREEDING JUST BECAUSE OF SOME INDUSTRIAL GOONS THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE TRUE GENETICS DOWN SOUTH, THATS THE WHOLE IDEA ITS NOT COMMERCIAL SO YOUR NOT GOING TO SEE IT EVERYWHERE IN MIAMI,BUT I CAN TELL YOU ONE THING I'VE BEEN SMOKING DIVINE HERB DOWN HERE FOR YEARS(DEVELOPED BY FLORIDIANS).MANY JAMAICAN HYBRIDS THAT I'M SURE ARE RARELY SEEN ANYWHERE ELSE INSTEAD OF JAMAICA.ITS LIKE A CALIFORNIA MED SHOP COMBINED WITH A COFFEE SHOP WHEN IT COMES TO SEED SELECTION WITHIN THE CREW.MANY MANY CANNABIS CUP WINNERS...WHEN IT COMES TO FLORIDA NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER,ORANGES AREN'T THE ONLY THING GROWING DOWN HERE .JAH BLESS.SELAH.

i always love seeing this post because it was POSTED back in 2004. i guess people just search for "florida" and this pops up.

its been revived from the dead about three or four times.

No disrespect to anyone in FLA but anyone on the East Coast knows that anyone that has connections or lives in NYC/Uptown Harlem/Bronx knows their are multiple pheno's of serious award winning haze strains. Yes some comes from Fla but most is local straight from over the bridge. You have to know Haze it is part of the culture now I know South Fla is known for alot of people running around calling different strains all types of names, now Kryppy aka Cryptonite is what everybody calls everything you have to fish through the BS to find the true gems but once you find it you will not complain. South Florida has some killer herb just alot of dealers who are either uneducated on herb or uninformed about lineage. I have had some of the best bud down in Florida of course it was called Crippy but it was not Haze of any kind

Not to offend anyone but this Crippy was no Haze cross or Midrade herb this was as Pifdaddy stated some truly exclusive home grown or AAA Commercial. I am a true traveling Connoisseur. I had smoked about 15 different South Florida samples some were BS mid and some just decent dro's and others KB and some ok hazes but this was completely different. The People I got this from Insisted that this was the Original Crippy dont know but this was some memorable herb and I am a finicky smoker to say the least; I carried that oz around for 5 days and every smoker that I crossed paths with said "Now that is the MIAMI CRIPPY" and understand NO Haze influence I am a Haze Head and know my Hazes like I know my phone #, this Kryptonite (Crippy) was exclusive not some BS Kind Bud, Now a Super Northern Lights Hybrid I can Jive with that a bit more I did taste a little Northern Lights in her but a whole lot of something else indescribable maybe a heavy peppered celery.
South Florida has some good herb you just have to look really hard good luck to you bro

It would be good to hear from people who have tried both South Florida hazes and Uptown NYC hazes to make the comparisons if you have never smoked uptown Haze it is worth the trip

Yeah, thats one of the better Florida Hazes. The Central Florida one seen alot is a Nl x Haze clone and is a little tighter and yields huge.
I picked up a bag of "The Black" recently and it was the best Haze I've ever seen or smoked. So ridiculously tasty and absolutely beautiful. You can get that one in Central Florida you just need to know someone. A breeder NEEDS to work with that one ASAP.

I smoked quite a bit of "the black" while I was in Central Florida last year (around 4/20). Well-rounded smoke. Very headie.

Did anyone ever figure out why they called it "the black" or "Black Haze"?

I started buying Haze varieties uptown around 92... IMO most available varieties are variations on the Haze theme. Different growers buying and growing Haze hybrids at different times and some being better than others. Some were cloned and still make the rounds and others seem like knockoffs found in bagseeds from probably stress induced hermies. I personally have seen a few different variations of NL5XHaze that ranged from the deep hitting basement funk to pungent frosty fast maturing ladies. Some were downright garbo tho. That was just in Nl5XHaze. Theres been many other Haze varieties from a bunch of other breeders that were equally impressive and Im sure exhibited many phenos.
So yes I've tried many variations from and lived in both areas. I've smoked amazing Hazes from both..

RoastedO-Good answer bro yes the uptown Haze varieties truly do run the gammut but I do believe they are working with some wonderful haze crosses. I too have a vast experience dealing with Uptown Haze not as far back as you but I go to 95 til present and I have had more variety of hazes Uptown than anywhere, from Harlem to Washington Heights to Grand Concourse in the Bronx it is there HEAVY I have been blessed to have incredible batches of Sour Diesel Haze-Blueberry Haze-Chocolate Haze that tasted just like the seeded Brooklyn Chocolate Ty but heavy chocolate haze aroma and taste-NL5xHaze-Bubblegum Haze- Purple Haze- and the hazes that most people just know by their color ie the Green Haze aka Big Bud x Haze or the Orange Haze or Brown Haze allways wonderful the Sour Diesel Haze was a top 3 smoke In my lifetime. Like Cocktail Frank said early I have been on a mission to find the Uptown haze in clone or seed form I have had some decent haze but nothing comparing to uptown.

Not to sidetrack the thread too much but the Miami Crippy with no haze in it is incredible true skin crawl pontency just my 2 cents

Bubble Puppy

People in Florida call any "really good" weed Krippy which is kind of annoying ,a few years ago "90''s chronic was all the rage ,but the selection in Florida today is great .
