yo salbahe, philippine landrace probably came from the spaniards when they colonized it... apparently, the spaniards at that time used hemp ropes for their ships etc so they brought and planted seeds in most or if not all their colonies.
Taking into consideration the fact, that the oldest traces of cannabis cultivation can be traced to Taiwan, and the huge chinese impact on the whole area for millenia, the origin is certainly South East Asia, Probably China.
after having been in vietnam and thailand.
going to such places for seeds and doing it carefully, might take months, maybe a few trips unless you get lucky.
you´d want to establish friends first and good one´s, then carefully ask them.
going out on the streets and just asking , is , usually just asking for trouble of decidedly unhealthy nature.
that being said, people there are often quite friendly and helpful, its just that not everyone is and people there being poor often pushes people into unsavory acts.
plus the cops there are totally corrupt and violent.

SEA definitely has it's share of goldmines in terms of looking for landraces or exotic genetics.
I myself used to live in Malaysia, Indonesia and parts of Borneo and to be perfectly honest weed isn't that hard to come by and most times if you take the precautions, law enforcement is rarely a worry.
Living in Malaysia I used to get bud from all corners of the golden triangle ( Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand. Four points and they call it a triangle, go figure)
and most of the bud was either bricked or done up ala thai stick style.
Most of the bud was seeded as well, which I didn't mind since almost all the seeds from every single batch were mature and germinated a-okay.
The plants that grew from these seeds were what you would expect of plants from that region - almost purely sativa with wispy little buds and a pain in the ass finishing time. Though a lot of outside genetics have been introduced to this region over the years, causing a lot of hybrids and adding more elements to the gene pool which would explain certain traits some plants carry that are not native to the region.
In Indonesia, a lot of the weed came from the Aceh region and was always referred to as aceh haze. Although in certain batches indica influences were clearly seen. Another area where they grow heavily is near Bali in the gili islands.
Most weed here is similar to the thai/laos/cambodian in the sense that they all lean heavily towards the sativa spectrum, though I have reason to believe that outside genetics have been introduced, explaining the indica traits in certain plants here.
Bottom line is, SEA is a very pick and mix sort of place if you're looking for genetics. If you're a breeder, serious genetics collector or just like to travel then SEA might have what you're looking for.
If you're a grower who just wants to run an exotic sativa thinking it would be fun then i suggest you look elsewhere. Growing out plants from this part of the world more often than not will be frustrating and overall time consuming, since a lot of the sativas here like to just hang back and grow, and grow, and grow, until they decide that they want to flower. Then even that takes them ages. I've had some at 9-10 months that were still throwing out new pistils.
Don't take my word for it though. Put all the cons aside, it still is an amazing experience growing genetics like this first hand.
Putting the seed hunt aside, SEA is still a killer place to go backpacking to take in all the wonders of the tropical jungles, pristine beaches, tons and tons of old monuments and temple ruins. Soak up the culture! And hey, a lot of the food down here is pretty kick-ass too!
