Some questions about soil building...

Thanks for all of the input and participation everyone! The attitude and vibe around here in Organics is encouraging and helpful.

I'm testing out my mix with some bagseed I saved from some excellent mids I came across recently. I mixed the BG Garden Compost, ewc, POM, lime and perlite (forgot the alfalfa meal), filled 16 oz cups (with drainage holes), and moistened mix the night before planting seeds. Germinated seeds by soaking then to paper towel method and then planted; sprouts within 2 days under a few cfls. Sprouts are looking healthy and green. Couldn't be happier so far!

I plan on feeding with worm and molasses tea to start bacterial and fungal teas in later development.

Peace

Didn't want this thread to get buried yet...

My mix for seedlings (constitutes 1 gallon):
3 parts BG Garden Compost
1 part worm castings
2 tbsp POM Tom & Veg
1 tsp dolomite lime
Cut with 30% perlite

I've got 13 seedlings (less than 1 week old) planted in this mix and all but 3 are super healthy looking! Every third watering they'll get molasses & worm casting tea.

I figure I have about 2 weeks to get a mix cooking for their first transplant. I'll have to start this next week as I have to buy more worm castings and some alfalfa, along with some other things. I'm going to use a Rubbermaid tote of appropriate size, leaving the lid on most of the way. I'll be turning the mix once or twice a day, keeping it moist but not wet.

I'll post back with updates and pics once I've got things started. Thanks again for everyone's input. I have all of you to thank for making me a better grower. Without any of you, I wouldn't know sh*t!

Peace
