the violet mix is not really an ideal mix for vegging the plants. the nutes are a lil off. also time release mixes can grow but can at the same time be a pain in the ass. it makes it harder to correct probs if they do show their ugly face. the cactus mix i don't really have ant experience with so i can't say. but i would tend to beleive not.
usually if your buyin potting soils if ya stay with a soil that is for tomatoes, it will be more of a mix that will grow weed. good luck.

I went and bought organic soil, (bacto) no wood products, Bat guano(8.00) and some perlite. water one time with hydrated lime after three weeks. to stabilize ph and keep it . I dont have a meter but my plants are a very nice dark green and growing about 3/4 inch a day, MGrow products are pretty hard on " da kine". stay away, bad news :moon: :pointlaug

that mix will work better i bet. try getting some dolomite lime and adding that to the soil when ya mix it up. it'll buffer longer than the hydrated.

Yeah thats what I've heard about Dolomite, I live in a sall town and thats all I could Find.....Thedirections said that one application for indoor plants was all it needed. nevertheless it's working great dude. I tried some hyponix made by MGrow it was bad, i transplanted the poor things and WOW! This is my real first serious attempt. I started soom seed on feb 05 and they are around 6" tall already with short internode distance very nice

i use mg and shultz soils outdoors all the time. but indoors ya do see alot of people struggling with it. i've never used it so i don't know. time release ferts just don't work indoors like they do outdoors.

the cactus mix has no time release ferts. 28-38% reed-sedge peat, sphagnum peat moss, perlite, and washed sand. the african violet mix has 0.08% nitrogen, 0.14% phosphorus and 0.09 potassium. wil someone tell me if tehy will work or not?

Stop buying that stuff and make your own. Almost everything can be found at Home Depot or Lowes. You will have less problems.

60% ProMix HP + Mike or just peat from Home Depot
30% perlite
10% worm castings for micros and BB or mcow poop from Home Depot

To each gallon of this mix I add:

2 TBS/gal dolomite lime
1 TBS/gal blood meal
2 TBS/gal bone mean for P (flowering mix only)
1 TBS/gal kelp meal
