Soil at "Lowes" ?

Any recommendations of what soil to buy at Lowes? And anything else i might need to get.Regular or organic. The local nurseries near me are pretty much closed for the winter so this or HD is my only option right now.

Theres a "Lowes" brand that has coco pith in it, purple bag. Nice stuff, light and fluffy. Add some Fox Farm Fruit and Flower dry formula, 1tblsp per gallon to give it an extra kick or add guano, rock phosphate, whatever. It's similar to the Miracle Grow Moisture Control potting soil... It was a seasonal item - but they had a shitload of it the last time I was there.

I used to use the 3 cubic foot bag of Stay-Green All Purpose, green bag; but its a bit on the heavy side. If you mix it with some coco fiber and perlite, its pretty nice - but they dont sell coco fiber at Lowes.

Good luck!

Yep. I would go with Miracle Grow's new potting mix:

Not to be confused with this one:

It is a little expensive but it has some really good stuff in it, you can read the back. It is also 100% organic no additives or ferts :). A lot of epople claim MG is bad, but their new organic line is midly nice. Add some perlite and lime, and keep hand y your nutes, because it is a pretty weak soil, but it looks and works great.

i personally always look for soil that has no additives or fertilizer....i stay away from Miracle Gro all together.....ive had bad experiences with young plants and miracle grow or any soil with fertilizer in it.....Just my personal preference to each his own...good luck with ur grow tho pal!!

I'm with JJ Scorpio. I'm trying the Sta-Green mix. I added perlite & a little lime. No problems so far.
Also what is the chemical makeup of "wetting agent"?

I'm not sure of a wetting agents chemical makeup,I'm sure there are more than one.Wetting agents are used to avoid hydrophobicity,a fancy term for water repellence. It works so that the soil remains uniformly wet or dry, without any "pockets" of wet and dry medium. This aids in the even distribution of fertilizers also.

Hey scorpio, google wetting agent and it gives you a great definition.I dont mind doing the legwork for all these lazy people lol,I always get a lot out of it.

I just picked some of this stuff up... Its pretty good with 40-50% perlite added.

I have some seedlings in there now and they seem to be thriving!

Yea, my plants love this stuff, and it is real easy to come by. MG sure suprised me with this one. Only thing I don't like is the weakness of it. It is great for seedlings and a little of veg but nutes are nessacary for this soil, which isn't a prob for me.

Ocean forest is great soil, probably the most popular that is used. However it is not very ideal for personal growers because it is about twice the amount of decent soil, and personal growers don't make money back. Plus a nursery that sells it is like .... 50 miles away, and ordering online every 2-3 months a bunch of growing stuff to an apartment really isn't to smart.
