Ok red dress, here ya go. You do not need a chiller, insulation is more cost effective and works fine unless you have extreme heat. You need a ph meter to succeed in hydro, and the calibration fluids too. Forget the co2, add later if you need it, it causes it's own set of problems. And a visa gift card will let ya order seeds without a paper trail, although most folks have no problem. If ya ain't having fun ya ain't doing it right.

Alright pinky... What type of insulation and what would you define as extreme heat? Central valley, Ca 110 is the norm summer daytime temp. 95 Night. Ph meter any suggestions? Ordered some seeds today just a few to see how it goes. Silver haze #9 and G bomb... I am thoroughly enjoying myself. Thanks for the advice pinky appreciate it.

Make room

Make room

High Marick23, I would make more space available, get rid of that toilet and sink and shower stall! Remove it all(you can put it back later...).
You will need some AC, put that in the window. Buy clones, and veg and bloom in the same room. 3 or 4 big plants in there with air cooled lights, or a bunch of little ones with big colas!
Simple is better, wait after a few batches before getting any co2. A dehumidifyer would help(if not indispensable!).
Get some good balanced ferts.
Hope that will help you make your set up.

OMG for christ sakes people KISS is the word you need in fact go with as little as possible Marick you have alot of reading to do bro don't just jump in the water and not know how deep it is. Any hydro salesman is just that a USED car salesman unless you know that he grows. And when i see threads like this i cringe
Start from the begining son a 6oo light is fine did you get a switchable ballast one that you can use MH and HPS bulbs in just by flicking the switch if not then you have to have 2 types of bulbs more money...and maybe you could have looked on craigslist and found 2 400's cheaper...what about nuets? i suggest you use GH 3 part and learn the old fashioned way most of us did and also just get the drops for checking the ph first get to know or as we say be one with the plant i would say go that route for 3 grows, but as your grows prgress so should you and you'll be fine.......
just trying to save you some cash cause your gonna spend it no matter who tells you what and trust me on that you will

Thanks for the reply! No need to cringe I have done a ton of reading. I have also been asking a ton of questions. I did find some 600 on cl and I bought them for a total of 3 600w balasts. I wanted the new one to compare the other 2 to when I fire them up. I won't be using the used balasts for this grow. I will be using floros to veg for now. So no need for the MH? Nutes I am using a 5 part bc package. For pests I will be using avid. I have a rooting compound that I will be using.. Starting clones in rock wool moving them to 4"x4" rockwool cubes that will be either drip or hand watered. At flower they will be put into a 3x3 flood drain e n f. With hydroton.

Ok so I have some babies that need to go into the 4" rockwool cubes. For some reason when I search rockwool I am not getting anything.

Anyone tell me how long to soak the 4" cubes in ph'd water. (5.5)? Also should I mix in some light nutes or just soak? If you know of a link to this info that would be great too. thanks again.

Any suggestions on how to keep the res temp down? I will hold off on purchasing anything but I would like the info handy if I need it. Come summer I will need it.

Go with Ebb&Flow so you dont' have to deal with lots and lots of air bubbles and res chiller garbage. Simple pump for the solution and I also add an airstone to the res, to keep things super fresh. :)

Any place that gets hot is going to be much more expensive to operate using SWC or DWC. Take it from someone who now knows root rot inside and out. Just skip it all and go E&F, the little extra time you spend on setup will far outweigh all the time, effort and money you won't have to spend using SWC or DWC.

Drip is also excellent with many of the same advantages when using Lava or Hydroton or Perlite. :)

Ok so chiller it is..

I've said it before and I'll say it as many times as I see it necessary. If you're considering buying a res chiller or looking at doing the frozen pop-bottle shuffle, take a serious look at Ebb&Flow or Drip style systems.

They're JUST AS EASY to set up and they don't need huge amounts of air bubbles or res chillers or any of that junk. For the extra $40-50 you spend in materials (I spent $30) you're looking at significantly fewer issues and NONE of that root rot crap that I've battled with SWC/DWC for years.

*** Edit *** Ok...... apparently I need sleep as I double posted to the same thread now. :) *** Edit ***

Make sure you have the basics. Lights, Exhaust fans, and nutes, soil, seeds. Everything else you can piece together later. If you hurry, you might not need A/C the first round since it is early in the year.

I recommend the newer model type stand alone A/C. Some folks disagree, but if you get the right one, they work fantastic and dont leak.

Check out Compact Appliance.com for good deals on A/C.

Be smart and spread your money out. You really only need enough to see a return on your investment. I am not telling you to sell your crop. But the money you save on dank alone should yield a very nice return. Hell, we smoke about an ounce a week between Mrs.Swamp and I and I couldnt imagine trying to pay for that much herb in these tough times. Growing my own has been a Godsend.

Also, GO ORGANIC! I can be really cheap to get the soil cooking. And compost is free when you make it yourself. EWC too.

ALL RIGHT

ALL RIGHT

Well the room is done. I am extremely happy with it. My cam is out of batteries so no video. Is there such a thing as too much negative preasure. I am using panda as a vapor barrier and with the fans on theres a nice pull on the plastic keeping it tight? Also Seeds came in the mail today :) Also How light tight does the room have to be? There is a little bit of light leakage by the door.

Your fan motor will last longer if you increase the size of your intakes until you only have a slight pull. This will also increase the amount of air flowing through and lower your temps a bit more. :)

Yeah, you need to make it completely light proof unless it's an auto-flower and you're going to be leaving the lights on 24/0 anyway.

Here we go. I had to turn the lights off otherwise you couldn't see anything. I have some light proofing to do. The temp on there is alittle high and the humidity is a little low. But I think it's just some minor tweaks. Please feel free to point out anything you might see as disasterous :)
