Aqualung is one of the best albums ever but I wouldn't say it was ahead of their time.lots of great albums came out.black Sabbath in particular was kicking ass with their religion themed music at the time too.it was that era I guess.wish I was there.saw black Sabbath but still pissed I missed out on seeing Jethro Tull a few years ago.

saw Tull in late 70s, Ian Anderson running around like his hair was on fire, playing his flute like the Pied Piper leading the rats down to the waters edge...fucking killer!

I don't believe in gods. Except when I 'm shit-scared and then my conditioning kicks in. Like yourselves I was conditioned in a Theocracy.
The proof of theocracy will be that even when Trump is afraid he will suddenly hope there's a god.

Betcha!

Religion came about mainly for two reasons:
1.We didn't understand how the world works and religion brought some 'order' into that chaos of ignorance
2. We are highly intelligent animals and this conciousness makes many of us unable to handle the fact that we die.

As science has advanced, we DO understand much better how the world works and the role of religion in explaining it or influencing it is constantly being diminished - e.g. people in most of the world no longer sacrifice animals to please god/ the gods for a better harvest.

100 or so years ago, most people believed in magic and gods.... nowadays few people believe in magic....
That is the direction of travel.
The cognitive dissonance required to believe in a god increases by the day.

Science is my god.

For me religion always came from not knowing what happens when u die. It can take away the fear and help the ones left behinde to deal with it. And it doesn't mater if its true or not as long it helps the group to survive.

I BELIEVE IN MAGIC and also that there is a science to magic that we don't totally understand YET (thought transference, synchronicity, etc.) but can work with if there is a connection to The Oversoul.

I employ 'magic' all the time to get what I want, frequently with a great deal of apparent success.

I'mma go out on a limb here and prolly embarrass myself but one of my most recent 'provable' successes was getting Gypsy Nirvana to make me a Mod last December and 'letting' him think it was all his idea!

…….. no really, 'I' did that by putting in a strong thought request "Gypsy, MAKE ME A MOD", and it quickly came to pass.

CALL ME CRAZY, go ahead, but magic can work if you have a strong enough connection and know how to use it.

Science on the other hand is something discovered by mere mortals and is frequently proven to be fallible as new discoveries are made.:tiphat:

^^ Causal Fallacy:
"This fallacy happens when you mistake something for the cause just because it came first. The key words here are “post” and “propter” meaning “after” and “because of.” Just because this came before that doesn’t mean this caused that. Post doesn’t prove propter. A lot of superstitions are susceptible to this fallacy."

That is EXACTLY the way it should be. Knowledge moves forward and so does science

Cthulhu of course. But if I were to go with a minor deity, it would be the Flying Spaghetti Monster. May you be touched by his noodly appendages. Ramen.

Highly intelligent. Lmao. Not even compared to the rest of milky way, let alone the universe.

I was referring to humans being highly intelligent compared to other animals. (they still do stupid things though)

Can you explain what are you referring to?

- They all consider that they believe in 'The True God' (or Gods) - so anyone that does not follow what they believe are disbelievers - and so less than they are - which makes most all religions supremacist religions - because they believe that they are 'The Chosen People' - and are absolutely convinced that they could go to heaven or hell dependant on how they behave in this life - and who they pray to - and if their God/Prophet has told them to enslave, convert and destroy all who do not bow/pray to their God - then that is how they find their way to this fictional heaven - all some/most religions have done throughout history is cause conflict - and consolidate power under the pretext of salvation for the so-called afterlife - by getting their flock to commit atrocities in this life - in the name of 'God' -

I watched a show yesterday about this. It clearly showed that a life thats more relaxed and comfortable VS. stressed and less of a good life. Then ones that had more sufferings, believed more in god. Good educations also led to less believing due to more stable lifes.

Interesting.

Dumb liberals say: "it would go easier on chump if there is no God, because He/She/It is gonna be really pissed over some of the shit he has pulled..."

Yeah, like saving the country from communism/socialism/disaster.

I am a spiritual person, but cannot go along with the organized religion thing. I am not a "club" joiner. However, I wonder how all this works so well... The way the universe works, down to the littlest microbe and seed, amazes me. We are so very lucky to be on this planet, at this point in time, and all we can do is squallble.

I sometimes wonder if this Christian gawd is so powerful, why can't he send down some spies to see how we are individually behaving. Maybe the spy has 4 legs and a tail. Be nice to your dawgs.

That has to be quite the internal dilemma. I was lucky to be spared. They tried church and Sunday school, about twice as best as I can remember. I am able to make up my own version of "gawd", without those prior indoctrinations.

To me gawd is just the glue holding together the way things work in the universe. It is powerful, and amazing. I have even began to understand why there are misquitos (feed my migratory birds that come from South America), which I used to think no good gawd would have created.
