so which fans blow the most air?

I mapped my room out before purchasing anything and I thought it would work out but its still a lil warmer than I wanted. I realize I did buy all vortex fans so that right there could be my problem as they seem to be the suckiest fans. im running a 3x5 closet w/ (2) 4" 1000w and 600w air cooled, I also have a 4" intake and 6" exhaust, the temps are about 67 @ night w/ lights off and about 78-85 w/ lights on.

i recently went to the berkeley secret garden and they had a bunch of fans lined up all ready to be plugged in w/ a power strip right there to try em out.

so i go to town like a kid in a toystore and for soome reasons the lil 4" and 6" fans they had like elicent and ecoplus all seemed to move tons more air, they were noisier but damn the air they seem to move is enticing. now im thinking instead of trying to make my current holes bigger I should get different fans as I have heard mixed reviews on the vortexs and feel that I could greatly benefit from the better and or bigger fans in the summer, so do you guys think I should I go w/ bigger holes or different fans, thank you....

never heard of vortex, i use a rvk 150 (6") but i had ducting from outside thro the cool tube lites and directly outlet from there taking the heat out, i hav 1 rvk 100 (4") in corner for air in and a rvk 100 in other corner for air out. i only need to use small fans for air in and out coz they're on changing air, the heat is delt with by the other fan.

bout nose, u can put any of yr fans in a home made sound proof box, its really easy and it works well so u can use any size fan without worrying bout nose.

let me know how u do

the noise isnt too big of a deal but that soundproof box sounds very interesting thx for the tip

There's a big difference in a fan's throughput once it's hooked up to ducting...especially in a setup like your's where the intake is restricting the outflow of air. Add to that the 4" fans only flow around 150cfm which really isn't that much and you're gonna have problems maintaining ideal control of the temps.

The rule of thumb for air cooling lights is 200cfm per 1k...so go grab you a 6" (pick a brand, they're all pretty much the same) and open up your intake to around 30-36 sq/in and you should be fine. BTW, ditch all that 4" ducting if all possible...it's only going to slow down the outflow of air.

yeah unfortunately next round im making sure theres atleast 6" ducting for everything, the 4" stuff is BS, just gonna finish up this run and redo the lighting situation so im good no mateer what, thanx fort he info, BTW where an I find those airforce fans?

6" duct will make a world of a differance, I think a vortex is for pushing air,of course what ever IS pushed out ,will be equale to what is sucked in,going be "feel" the intake side may not seem high. I check the outlet side to get an idea of the flow I have.

Even the small fans have a cfm rating, but you have to figure in it capibility of pushing against built up air pressure ,I forget what that reading is called.

I just reread your your thread..try incresing the inlet side to 6" or add another 4" keep the 4"plug ,in case you want to cover the hole over again.
