so apparently electric companies DO snitch on high power users on their own

damn you're dumb.

Wrong, sir. I have personally called PG&E several times, and their exact reply was:

"We don't care how much power you use, or what you use it for. The more power you use the more money we make. Just pay your bill, that's all we care about."

Verbatim, unedited. I called two other times and spoke to different CSR's, who repeated the mantra as well. PG&E will not snitch you out, and I'm told they don't give up your data to the cops unless they have a warrant. PG&E is doing it right in my book!

Right, but this could vary from state to state. Cali power companies wouldn't behave the same as, say, Texas ones (maybe).

Of course it could, but }A{Boss said that mrktwiz was dumb for thking that about PG&E. I was just clarifying that no, he's not dumb, that's exactly what PG&E says. Other power companies are all different, but PG&E is a good power company for growers to be using.

I'm told Oklahoma and Floridas power companies are notoriously bad for snitching on growers.

Lazyman, he said he was dumb because of his "yawn, who cares" attitude - "where I'm at it's legal, why do you guys even care?"

Obviously this attitude is great if we're all legal, but odds are 99.99% of the people on a thread about high electricity usage are on it because they're not legal (IMO), in which case his viewpoint is just ridiculous.

Do you normally make gaurantees with not only no information to support your claim, but indeed a plethora of information pointing to the contrary, or is this a one-time thing?

I'm sorry to be so harsh, I respect you as a grower. But it's important to not say obviously dumb/incorrect shit about such an important topic. Lives and families are potentially at stake.

im just telling you how it is where im from bro.

You can run a big of op as the house will let you and as long as you move within a year your house will not get raided due to high electric bill. In my area the dea will only come kick your door down if you have been spiking your electric bill for consecutive seasons. takes time to make a case

if leo are already hot on your trail then theres a chance they can subpoena your electric bill and get warrant from that. seen it happen

in a perfect world if your name isnt hott and your running 20+ kw just switch up your location every year or so and you will be just fine.

if u really want sources hit me up id be glad to direct you

I understand that, i just figured it went without saying that you wouldnt grow big in spots where the power company is reknowned for snitching out growers.

In other words, if you didn't do your homework on your own power company, how can you be surprised when something untoward happens?

yawn i dont care about PGE or w/e.. put it that way. this thread has more to do with people outside of PGE in my opinion. Glad PGE is on your side though, would be nice if they all were.

Did you not read the ones about family doing lots of laundry? Or when the guy who runs the "don't get busted" campaign set up a raid for a christmas tree grow?

Mom got raided for trying to get the "protein stains" out of her sons jeans a few times, and you think you're good to go because you don't have a hundred plants?

Come on. We need to wise up as a community and face the writing on the wall here.

Of course read about the family busted who weren't growing. Going from that to oh-my-its-huge-problem-everywhere is quite a leap. What really struck out about that, though, was the figure they quoted, .55kWh/sqft., is a very moderate amount of electricity usage. Really, that's hardly any power use.

And the don't get busted setup, well, it was just that .. a setup. Didn't they place some fake tips to lure the cops in? They didn't just run a high power bill and wait for them to see that.

I'm just saying, when the only evidence is a handful of stories across the nation over a span of years ... that doesn't evidence a widespread practice. I would think there would be a hell of a lot more stories where it was clearly stated high power bills sparked the investigation.

Cause that's what it's all about. What starts the investigation. What gets them looking.

If you get informed on, and then they check your power, the bill wasn't the problem.

And when hundreds of plants are involved, especially in places like Shakopee, MN and Gary, IA - I can't help but think it wasn't the power bill that got the 5-0 on the trail. And it's certainly plausible that the cops would give the paper a different reason rather than just throw it out there if it was a CI.
