K scratch that last post, I went ahead and ordered the Danner Supreme 3 for my 4 bucket setup.

Sorry if I am asking too many questions here....

I'm needing a little more info on the washers....mainly their thickness. I am wondering if I am going to be able to get away with using only 2 of the washers that I bought for each bucket. If not, no big deal....I will just buy 10 more washers... Mine are approximately 1/8" thick

I'm 99.999999% sure that the washers I listed from Lowe's are suitable. You might NOT be able to use just 2 of them per bucket as opposed to 4, but you would certainly be successful if you used 4 per bucket. I'm just trying to get away with using 2 per bucket to save some money. You could always hit their website up and order them from there. Doubt it would take long. At the very least you could go by your local Lowe's and see. Good luck to ya.

I got my rubber washers from reliantrubberco.com

I emailed them and the guy got back to me in like 15 minutes. In like 2-3 days they were in the mail and on the way. After a couple of companies gave me a run around for these washers, these guys did a good job.

mjkelly93, what exactly did you order? Im not very familiar with these things.... Is there a part number? Or size?

Just a 1-1/2" neoprene washer with 50 durometer? Any particular thickness?

Looked through the thread again and I don't see a damn thing on the thickness of the rubber washers. My eyes hurt. Maybe I missed it, but if someone could please gimme a clue here it would be much appreciated.

K....nm on the thickness....found washers at Lowe's that are approximately 3/8" thick...which is plenty thick. Currently testing them. If they work, they are $2 each and you would only need 2 per bucket.

30 minutes in and no leaks.

Update: Been a good bit now. I am going to go ahead and give these washers my approval. @2 dollars a piece they are not the cheapest choice, but it is nice to be able to walk into the store, pick up a male adapter and make sure the washer works before buying. That was my motivation. You definitely only need 2 of these per bucket as well. Pump should be in Monday so I should be setup by Tuesday. I'll try to update with pics and whatnot.

So....this is neither here, nor there....but this thread has become a second home for me as of late...and I would like to share a finding...

I did a simple light leak test on the grey Lowe's buckets and also regular (white) schedule 40 1-1/2" pvc pipe. I did the same test with my schedule 40 electrical pvc fitting and schedule 40 electrical pvc pipe. If I could summarize the test I would simply say this.....using a small led light (not very powerful) the white sch40 pvc and the Lowe's buckets had light penetration while ALL of the electrical fittings WERE 100% light proof.

This is in no way intended to scare anyone away from using the white pvc as opposed to the grey electrical pvc....what I would say is.....if you do use the white pvc and the grey Lowe's buckets IMHO I would take the extra step to wrap everything in aluminum tape....you may be able to get away with it....but in my personal situation...my light is overpowering and my room's reflective capabilities are great. This being said...I'm going to go ahead and try to source all of my pvc from the electrical section and foil tape my buckets...I might end up using the white pvc 1-1/2" 90's only because they don't seem to make them in the electrical pvc....they instead make a huge 90 that has a huge bend radius which, while usable, isn't ideal.

Just giving everyone a heads up and trying to save potential algae breeding grounds.

EDIT: I feel I have to put an obligatory statement in here regarding the fact I consider myself still an EXTREMELY noobsauce grower and constructor of growing apperati.... So take what I say with a grain....or two...of salt....Not sure how else to say that without calling myself an outright nitwit lol...

Stupid washers! Im sitting on thousands of them for you guys but trying to find ways to get them to you. I am still working on a solution. If you find alternative washers that work, please share the part number as well as the company. I only lose money giving away my washers which I have no problem with if we can stop giving money to hydro companies for over priced systems.

The thickness of the washer shouldnt matter. It's the hardness that may matter more. This is why I manufactured the newest washer that is softer than my older model. I forget the data because notebooks with past data is in storage 200 miles away. I really hope that you guys find a washer similar to mine cause Im sick of dealing with grow shops but i will if i have to.

Ive already given away over 2,000 washers and I havent seen one build. :) Its just a matter of time when someone comes out of the dark and shows us the magic.

I can't find a spec, but the 3/8" ones I found are pretty damn soft. Alas my hands are far from durometer tools... So far I'm leak free on the test bucket I showed. Guess we'll see if it works when it's all put together.

I'm supposed to be an elite master craftsman but also am a very good procrastinator. Once I get rolling though it's like a train (14+ hour days) and I don't stop. Yeah I have those washers and materials just sidelined a bit with 2 other projects I just completed. I should have something within a week?!

Snype you have to get all the kudos, you may not know it but you've advanced the technology of hydroponics pretty darn good! :thank you:

As for the washers I also ordered some EDPM o-rings from amazon. The hardness is 70 and I can't find anything softer but EPDM is very durable and the o-rings I have from amazon I have confidence in . The EDPM o-rings I got are 1/8” diameter rings, I ordered this size and not larger as the 1 1/2” Cantex pvc conduit connectors I have only have a 1/8” ridge to seal against and a bigger o-ring would be useless. Snype's conduit connector listed I guess has a bigger ridge for his washers which are 1/4” wide to seal. So I will be trying both Snype's washers as well as the EPDM o-rings from amazon I have both.

When sizing washers and o-rings for pvc pipes of different diameters you want the ID or inside diameter of the washer or o-ring to seal against the outside wall of the pvc pipe. And the outside pipe diameter is different than the specified pipe diameter due to the pvc pipe wall thickness (for example 1 1/2” pipe needs a 1 7/8” ID washer or o-ring).

Here's a quick reference for pipe diameter mated to ID of washer or o-ring needed (though for 1/4” I like the mur-lock compression connectors & bulkheads) for anything from 1/4” to 4” diameter pvc pipe:

1/4” pvc pipe (or hose) - 9/16” ID washer or o-ring
1/2” pvc pipe - 7/8” ID washer or o-ring
3/4” pvc pipe - 1 1/16” ID washer or o-ring
1” pvc pipe - 1 5/16” ID washer or o-ring
1 1/2” pvc pipe - 1 7/8” ID washer or o-ring
2” pvc pipe - 2 3/8” ID washer or o-ring
3” pvc pipe - 3 1/2” washer or o-ring
4” pvc pipe - 4 1/2” washer or o-ring

amazon.com epdm durometer 70 selected washers/o-rings for 1/4" to 3" pipe:

You'll get one ..... just may be smaller than i wish. I did manage to get the last 30 something from root down. I cant start anything till current run is done and company leaves.....~christmas. Just hoping to do a bigger 10-12 bucket system.

I already have veg-a complete and overgrown... wasnt planning on company and surprise surprise. I hope i can get the roots untangled ok as they are intertwining. I cant imagine another 3 weeks.

Can you ebay a few for me (or have someone else) or something if we get to around 20th if u cant find anywhere? Im HAPPPPPYYYY to pay for them ;) The ones i do have seem really nice.

also side note....

I know you like the encore buckets snype....while at HTG i did find black encore's. they are overpriced though...ill stick with silver lowes for $2.50~

If anyone was to order i would send an email verifying first as i dont know if all stores/shipping locations have them. I know the store by me does.

Snype, have you looked into using amazon and their "amazon fullfillment" service?

Im not sure what involves. Let them sell and ship em. Guessing probably requires a legitimate business.

I found another grow shop for the washers but still need to figure some things out so maybe you guys can be all set soon. When they are available, i would act fast or you might be waiting again. I will update the first page of this thread with the details so keep checking in for updates and support.
