:spank: Wait your turn I want those 1st.

I even contacted BC Fisheries Department 2 years ago to see if it were possible to purchased Kokanee eggs to hatch them and they sad no.

Might have to go over there and smuggle some one day and make my own kokanee fishing honey hole in Ontario.

It might be easier to come out west during salmon season and collect eggs and milt from a few male and female sockeye salmon. Spawn them in a fish tank like the elementary kids do for class projects..... eezy peezy :dance013: :tiphat:

Sockeye are nice, but need Ocean life to do well. Kokanee are the freshwater version of Sockeye and what I would need.

BTW: Wouldn't it be easier for you to get me those Kokanee eggs next year? :huggg:

I'm actually waiting for a Ontario hatchery that I've been talking to for months to contact me so I can get trout eggs this month. :woohoo:

Being in Canada and it's Winter I figured snow could be topic to talk about. :)

My basement grow area has much more stable humidity and warmth by using snow to cover the outside of the
window. It also cuts down on light leaks which can be a good thing. 10 inches of snow has an R-18 value which
is almost like 4 inches of styrofoam insulation. Best thing it's free with a little hard work and exercise.

Do You Know How To Use Snow For Insulation?

You can confess already, you were making snowman ☃️, didn't you? Lol.

sockeye are kokanee ….. kokanee are simply sockeye that never leave the freshwater they hatch in. Any sockeye fry will remain adapted to fresh water if it never leaves it.....
In BC "most" good kokanee lakes are stocked annually. The fish will die naturally in their 5th year and can not spawn, they are sterile.
Some kokanee lakes do have natural stocks but they are small and catching them is not really feasible due to the time of year they spawn and accessing those creeks.
Sockeye would make a better candidate for an egg and milt harvest I would think.

Just shoveled the driveway again.

Global Warming my balls. I want to throw who came up with that myth into a snow bank.

I know they are the same species. But Kokanee are adapted to living their entire in freshwater all of their life.
Whereas Sockeye are not and go out to sea after they hatch. Kokanee also never grow as large as Sockeye.

Kokanee salmon identification

Sockeye salmon identification

ya I know what all the science/biology says but what I'm telling you is true brother.
If you hatch sockeye or coho fry from a wild caught fish and rear those eggs/fry in freshwater, they will remain freshwater adapted.... it is in their DNA to do so.
You are correct to say that they will not gain the size as their ocean counterparts but that is simply due to food source. In the lakes they feed on plankton type stuff and shrimp like gammarus and hyella.

In my favorite lake they grow to 4+ pounds. My friend holds our current record at 4lbs 11ounces ….. damn near a sockeye in size.
I had one on the other day that snapped a hook in the bend of the shank.... everyone who witnessed it couldn't believe a kokanee could do that but we saw it in the hole before the hook snapped and it was a hawg of a silver.

white out conditions here and snow drifts are hitting 3 feet deep out in the yard..... I literally can not see my grizzly 550 and snow plow..... completely buried in snow over the handle bars. Wouldn't even know it was there if I didn't "know it was there" LOL

Right - I do vaguely remember hearing stats similar to that some while ago - so it could be possible - and would be an interesting project that's for sure -

Don't they build ice hotels in Finland or Norway every year that people pay to stay at?

So building a grow room with ice should be no problem -

It's more like an over night experience than a longer stay if the hotel is built with ice and snow. They do a bunch over here in Finland every year, especially in Lapland parts of the country. Had a game of thrones themed ice hotel last year.

Pretty cool, but very expensive.

Also I don't think a growroom of ice and snow would be very practical. Sure, ice and snow reflect light really well, and ain't no feds or cops gonna find your grow with thermal cameras. But then You gotta keep the ice from melting and your plants from freezing to death at the same time. Electricity would be hazardous.. Oh, and you'd have to have a shit load of ice to build the damn thing in the first place, or live in the Antarctic or sumtin to keep it going year round :) And that would suck 'cause then you'd be cold all the time, which would make smoking weed pointless 'cause weed doesn't get you high if you're cold enough.

So yea, NOT. GONNA. HAPPEN. :comfort:
